Scandal may be over, but that does not mean Jeff Perry is leaving Shondaland behind.
Per Entertainment Weekly, Jeff Perry is returning to Grey's Anatomy as Meredith's father, Thatcher Grey.
As is always the case with Shondaland, details are scarce on what brings the veteran actor back for some more medical drama.
Perry most recently appeared on the ABC sudser in February 2011. Yes, that means he has not appeared since Grey's Anatomy Season 7.
That feels like a lifetime ago. If you watch Grey's Anatomy online, you know that Meredith's relationship with Thatcher was not exactly on steady ground.
Thatcher was MIA for most of Meredith's childhood, so it makes sense that they have never had a strong bond.
Perry is coming off a seven-season stint on Scandal in which he played the villainous Cyrus Beene aka the man who was always looking for some more power.
There are a string of casting changes as we head into Grey's Anatomy Season 15. Kim Raver, who plays Teddy Altman has been promoted to series regular.
Her guest arc on Grey's Anatomy Season 14 culminated in her returning to Seattle and strongly implying she was pregnant with Owen's baby.
That happened right after Owen adopted a child and allowed his ex-wife, Amelia, to move into his home with his new child's mother.
Given the soapy nature of Grey's Anatomy, we think it's fair to say there are going to be some difficult decisions for Owen when the series returns.
While past actors are returning, we lost Jessica Capshaw, and Sarah Drew as Arizona and April, respectively. Both actors were ousted from the series for creative reasons.
Their final episode was Grey's Anatomy Season 14 Episode 24, and it found both characters getting somewhat happy endings.
As previously reported, Grey's Anatomy Season 15 debuts with a two-hour opener Thursday, September 27 at 8/7c.
