The Originals Season 5 Episode 11 Review: 'Til the Day I Die

It was Freya and Keelin's wedding on The Originals Season 5 Episode 11, and I'm shocked to the core that there were no deaths to spoil the big day.

Instead, there was a whole lot of drama, and much of it stemmed from Freya's insecurities about the future. Freya has recently carried the burden of being The Originals' perpetual loophole finder.

She is devoted to her family's wellbeing and stops at nothing to make sure there's a spell to save the day whenever her magic is required. That's part of the reason bringing a child into the world scared her.

Also, her having her first child taken from her in such a cruel way played a considerable part. But Freya always feels like she has the weight of the world on her shoulders and has made the final decisions between her and Keelin for too long.

If anything, their pre-marital argument helped Freya realize that she needed to be more upfront about her thoughts instead of bottling them up and bringing them to the forefront at the worst possible times.

The wedding brought the family together beautifully. In the midst of sadness, everyone managed to come together and put the past behind them for a few hours to have a lovely day.

Elijah showing up to walk Freya down the aisle was a doozy. His storyline has been miserable of late, but my heart broke when he concluded that he could not walk his sister down the aisle.

Thanks for Marrying Me! - The Originals Season 5 Episode 11

Phoebe Tonkin's appearance as Haley was as delightful as Haley's meeting with the mind-wiped Elijah in France. It was perfectly Haley, wasn't it?

For a time, she and Elijah were a great couple, but something always kept them apart. Their moments in France were bittersweet because I  knew Hayley was dead in the present.

But even though they were bittersweet, they were still beautiful as they signaled the start of something new. Even with his mind wiped, Elijah had an instant attraction to Hayley proving that love can conquer everything.

Despite the poor writing for Elijah on The Originals Season 5, I'm thankful he realized that there was still a lot to like about himself and that he could find a way to put the past behind him.

Klaus may resent his brother for his actions, but he also knows that there is no way Elijah would willingly put any of his family in danger. He would rather sacrifice himself.

Moving On - The Originals

The brotherly bond returned strong during "'Til the Day I Die," but I wish it were under better circumstances.

Klaus turned to Davina out of desperation, expecting her to find something that Freya couldn't. Davina and Klaus have had their differences, but Davina could see a part of herself in Hope. Once  Davina was a young girl with a lot of power, and she had no idea what to do with it.

My immediate reaction to the grimoire burning was that Mikael was pulling some strings from the afterlife. We know that Sebastien Roche is returning for the series finale, so I wouldn't be surprised if Mikael were returning to end his family once and for all.

Klaus isn't ready to give up the fight to save Hope from her affliction, but the added pressure of knowing that she's going to have to turn into a werewolf without the assistance of her mother hurts Klaus very much.

I'm not sure what we're going to gain by sending them to Mystic Falls in the quest to get results, but it will likely make for a nostalgic hour as we visit locations from The Vampire Diaries.

Declan's Pain - The Originals Season 5 Episode 10

Declan is a rather problematic character, but we finally learned more about why he was in New Orleans. It would have been easy for Marcel to kill him but that would go back on all the good that happened as a result of the seven years of peace.

The conversation with Davina about what Josh would have wanted put things in perspective. I only wish there was a significant enough catalyst to make some changes before now.

It's difficult to imagine Declan fully putting his trust in Marcel, but a part of him must be intrigued at the prospect of bringing unity to all of the factions in the French Quarter.

If peace becomes the norm again, it's likely that Marcel will find a way to reunite Rebekah to try and find his own happy ending. Oh yes, Rebekah Mikaelson was back in town, and it was great.

Finally! - The Originals Season 5 Episode 11

She may have had reservations about a wedding with Marcel in the past, but if there's a happy ending for her family in store, it would be a treat if she got one, too.

This episode was an excellent way to gather everyone together. The well thought out callouts to the past were also fabulous. Now that we have only two installments remaining, I'm cautious about the way everything is going to conclude.
