Preacher Season 3 Episode 6 Review: Les Enfants Du Sang

On Preacher Season 3 Episode 6, it looks like Jesse is coming through to save Tulip once again, but when Grandma wakes up, all bets are off.

You would think Jessie's learned his lesson not to trust his family at all. They couldn't give a rat's behind if they gave their word or agreed to a deal. They live in the now.

TC Taking Care of Grandma - Preacher Season 3 Episode 6

As soon as TC got done spoonfeeding souls to Grandma, she went right back to capturing Tulip.

Jesse's not in his right mind because usually, he's on top of dirty deals around him, but he's got a blind spot when it comes to his family.

I suppose that's true of all of us, but most of us don't have families like Jesse.

I've been smoking crack all day.

Cassidy

One would hope.

Yes, Jesse says he hates them, but he doesn't act like it. It might be because he knows what they're all capable of, but family is complicated. They did raise him, and that's a bond that's hard to shake, even when you want to break it.

It still hard to figure out the bond TC and Jody have to Grandma -- especially TC. It seems like he's in love with her or was at one time, and maybe that's his bond with her.

Episode after episode, Jesse keeps coming up with these plans, and they just aren't getting any traction. Something's gotta give.

He says he'll get Grandma what she wants, which we assume is a boatload of souls. TC has mentioned the blood compacts are only broken when Miss Marie decides the debt is paid. She's never going to admit Jesse has paid his debt, no matter how many souls he fetches.

Even if he does get his powers back, and summons tons of souls, Grandma won't be satisfied. She's holding onto a grudge. That's what this is all about. Grandma's like a dog with a bone, and she's not going to forget Jesse left her before. She is going to hold onto it for the rest of her life.

Jesse's only option is to do something with his power. But what?

Would it make me the worst person in the world if I kissed you on the day I buried my girlfriend?

Jesse

If he were to use the voice to get rid of TC and Jody, and the napkins, maybe Grandma will be powerless. It's not like she wrings her hands together to strangle Jesse, she uses the napkin itself. Maybe it's as simple as taking those away from her.

Then he could use the voice to order her to stay alive. There are limits on the power, but since the voice has the power of Heaven and Hell, it might wield life and death power too.

But let's not forget the big picture here. We're living in a Godless world. Nobody is driving the boat, and everybody is taking a test. Jesse may be failing at escaping Grandma because Jesse is meant to fail at escaping Grandma. There may be something in Angelville God needs Jesse to figure out and fix.

Maybe it's the whole soul stealing business. You'd think that would piss God off.

Outside of Angelville, we've got Cassidy finally coming to terms that he's a vampire, and Jesse and Tulip aren't.

Leader of the Vampire Club - Preacher Season 3 Episode 6

He's going to outlive them, and he realizes he's going to have to say goodbye to them at some point. If he stayed with them, he would have to watch them get old and leave this Earth. It's more than he can bear.

Cassidy has already lived more than a lifetime, and he's got forever to go. He's just not built to be a vampire. He's too emotional, and he attaches to people too deeply.

It's good that he found someone who can maybe teach him how to be immortally happy, but he's going to have a problem turning people. He's a vampire with morals, and that makes life tough for Cass. If he's going to make it through all of eternity, he's going to have to detach.

Alright bitches, clock's tickin'. Let's go steal some shit.

Tulip

Which is going to suck because we love Cassidy the way he is. We'll have to wait and find out how his storyline plays out. I think he's going to miss Jesse and Tulip too much to stay away forever. It's better to have loved and lost, Cassidy. Get back in the game, and enjoy them while they're still here.

5 Top Reasons You Should Be Watching Preacher

If he can't handle life after Jesse and Tulip die, he can always walk right out into the sun. Options! We have options!

One person who doesn't have options is Jesse. He's stuck on one hell of a treadmill, and it looks like he's met his match with Grandma. What's she so angry about anyway?

The Crew Plans a Robbery - Preacher Season 3 Episode 6

The way I see it, she's just an entrepreneurial control freak.

When Jesse gets his power back, maybe he could offer her youth. That seems to be what she's after, above all else. If Jesse could offer her youth, and convince Cassidy to turn her, she might be satisfied.

She wouldn't need to collect endless souls to keep going. Grandma would be young for all of eternity.

Does the voice have that kind of power? Maybe. Also, if he gives Grandma eternal life, that would guarantee Tulip's safety. It's a win-win!

So, what, you all want to be vampires?

Cassidy

Jesse's fast-talking wheeling and dealing are only going to last so long. He's good at it, but Grandma doesn't have a whole lot of patience. Plus, she knows Jesse, and she can read him like a book; that makes her dangerous.

While Jesse can typically fast talk his way out of situations, he can't do that with her. That's why he's struggling so much and ending up in the same place.

And that's with him being stuck in Angelville, with Tulip's life on the line.

Herr Starr might be his only ticket off the hamster wheel, and just maybe that's been God's plan all along.

Over to you, Preacher fans. How can Jesse possibly get himself and Tulip out of this Angelville mess? Are you frustrated to watch Grandma always come out on top? Why do you think Herr Starr is so afraid of the Allfather? How do you feel about Cassidy?
