Supergirl Round Table: Who's Side Are You On?

at .

Imra and Kara disagreed over how to stop Pestilence on Supergirl Season 3 Episode 16, but so far neither of them have been successful. The three Woldkillers are now all together, and we know that won't be good.

Below, TV Fanatics Kathleen Wiedel, Christine Orlando, and Stacy Glanzman share their thoughts on all the secrets being kept, which side they're on, and the return of Brainy and Imra.

Did you find yourself siding more with Kara or Imra?

Kathleen: Both of them have points. It's understandable Imra thinks the best way to handle Pestilence is to kill her outright. They've lost so much to the Blight in the future, and it seems like a fairly obvious solution to the problem. Kara is also correct that getting aggressive with the Worldkillers increased their hostility towards them.

On the other hand, there is no guarantee that appealing to their human side through empathy or technology will stop them, while killing them probably would. At this point, it's probably a toss-up.

Christine: I wanted to side with Kara, because I believe in her ideals, and taking an aggressive stance with Purity only made things worse, but it’s hard to argue with all Imra has seen. In her reality, Supergirl tries and fails, so does that mean trying to kill the Worldkillers is the only way to defeat them? Perhaps.

Stacy: I agree it's a tough call. As Christine said, I wanted to side with Kara, but it's hard not to see Imra's point of view. They came back from the future in order to save it, and killing Pestilence may be the only way to guarantee that.

Do you suspect that there will be a strain in Supergirl and Lena's friendship?

Kathleen: Perhaps temporarily, but these two have been through and overcome so much together. They'll overcome this, too.

Christine: I hope not. I’m sure Supergirl will be upset at first that she was kept out of the loop, but we have to remember that Lena doesn’t know that Supergirl is also Kara.

Lena didn’t trust that Sam would be safe if she turned her over to the DEO without any way to extract Reign. Supergirl may not like that Lena kept the secret, but Lena did it to save Sam.

Stacy: I'm guessing Supergirl will not be happy that Lena kept it from her, but she'll get over it to focus on the problem at hand. I also wouldn't be surprised if James is a little upset she didn't tell him, but he's keeping his own Guardian secret from her, too. Everybody has secrets.

Trouble Is Coming - Supergirl Season 3 Episode 16

How do you see the Worldkiller story ending? Will Lena find a way to separate them from their human sides?

Kathleen: My Spidey Sense tells me that maybe Sam will finally overcome Reign in time to perform a heroic sacrifice to take out the other Worldkillers, but Lena will be able to save Sam herself at the last moment, meaning a happy reunion with her daughter so they can live happily ever after.

Christine: I have to believe that Sam will find a way to persevere in order to save or get back to Ruby. I think this is going to take a team effort. I don’t know if the other two Worldkillers will survive, but I have to believe that Sam will.

Stacy: I am hoping Lena succeeds in separating Reign from Sam, and perhaps can do the same for the other two. I still wouldn't be surprised if at least one of them dies, but I'm hoping Sam survives.

The Truth - Supergirl Season 3 Episode 16

Were you happy to see Brainy and Imra back after their hiatus? Do you prefer Brainy with or without the make up?

Kathleen: One of the pitfalls of a Legion of Superheroes, Avengers, or any other superhero team is that as a writer you tend to run into the issue of "Why didn't they just call in their friends and have this enemy/problem/whatever solved in five minutes?".

As such, you have to come up with some sort of reasonable excuse as to why they can't do that, which doesn't always actually fly with the audience.

As to this specific case, I do enjoy the personal interactions these two characters provide with our leads (particularly my favorite scene of the episode, see below). And I can't say that I "prefer" Brainy with or without make-up, as he's essentially still the same character.

As someone who's experienced theater make-up, I can understand the joys of not having to wear the stuff, though! Not to mention it makes sense in the context of the series for Brainy to equip himself with the ability to, well, not cause a riot at the Piggly Wiggly.

Christine: I can’t say I care about Brainy one way or the other. He doesn’t really add much to the show for me. However, I enjoy the friction between Imra and Kara. They’re both on the same side but have different experiences so they come at the problem in different ways, but neither is necessarily wrong.

They’re also in love with the same man, so that adds a whole other layer to the tension.

Stacy: I didn't realize I missed Brainy until he returned this week. He was so funny and I loved his interactions with Winn. I also found myself torn between Kara and Imra. I think they are both positive additions to the show. As for Brainy's makeup, it was funny watching everyone freak out when he walked in.

I Have a Gun! - Supergirl Season 3 Episode 16

What was your favorite quote or scene?

Kathleen: The scene where Brainy walks in on the team while wearing his human disguise made me snicker, especially when Winn walked in a few moments later and only took a moment to recognize both him and the technology he was using. Brainy's explanation for the image inducer also amused me.

I had to purchase some apple cider vinegar and I nearly caused a riot at the Piggly Wiggly.

Christine: I loved it when Alex woke up and immediately asked about Winn:

Alex: Where's Winn?
J'onn: Against my better judgment, he's back at work.
Alex: Oh, what a suck up.

Stacy: I loved Winn describing Freddy Kruger to Brainy. I also enjoyed Kara's Star Wars reference.

Kara: Do you think I'll get through to Pestilence?
J'onn: There's no way of knowing. You just have to try.
Kara: That's not what Yoda would say.
