The mermaids are here to stay.
Freeform today announced ahead of the ABC Upfront presentation that the supernatural drama would be back for a second season.
The drama series follows Ryn (Eline Powell), a mermaid who finds herself on in the small coastal town of Bristol Cove intent on finding her sister who has been taken into a testing facility.
But Ryn does not have people skills and three residents from the town take her under their wing as they seek to help her come to terms with the situation, and also, keep her from killing everyone in sight.
The talented cast also includes Alex Roe, Ian Verdun, Rena Owe,n Fola Evans-Akingbola and Sibongile Mlambo.
Siren Season 1 is averaging 0.7 million viewers and a 0.2 rating among adults 18-49. In the demo, it is the network's second-highest rated series.
With seven days of DVR factored in, the series is catapulting 150 percent in the demo. It makes sense then that Freeform has opted to give the show more episodes for Season 2.
Siren Season 2 will span 16 episodes, up six from Siren Season 1, so there is plenty more to come from the characters.
If you've been on the fence about the series because of it airing on Freeform, it's definitely worth a look. It's darker and more adult than your standard Freeform fare.
The renewal comes on the heels of Freeform ordering a spin-off of Pretty Little Liars to series. Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists focuses on the continuing adventures of Alison DiLaurentis and Mona Vanderwaal as they make a move to a new city and a new mystery ensues.
