The Terror Season 1 Episode 6 Review: A Mercy

at .  Updated at .

Dr. Stanley seemed to think he was showing the men "a mercy" when he set the tents on fire on The Terror Season 1 Episode 6, but all he did was turn a jolly good time into another nightmare for these men who, at this point, are pretty much at their limits.

Fitzjames had the men's best interests at heart when he ordered them to prepare for a carnival.

All he wanted was for them to have a night free of worries. He was having a grand time himself, and for the first time, I found something to like about him.

Having a Party - The Terror Season 1 Episode 6

There was no reason for Crozier to ruin the party. He could have told them the truth the next day, but Crozier wasn't happy that Fitzjames was doing such a fine job leading while he was suffering like Christ but with "more nails."

More than that, he was probably just pissed off because he couldn't enjoy the celebration. Two weeks certainly wasn't enough time to get the craving of drink out of his system.

Jopson tried his best to keep him away, but Crozier couldn't keep his nose out of it.

Still, if Crozier wouldn't have gathered all the men around as he did, there would have been more deaths from the fire because the men would have in those areas where the fire spread first.

They all almost certainly would have died had it not been for Cornelius who was able to free the men despite accidentally killing one man in the process.

I'm still not sure what he's all about. He's definitely beating a different drum than everyone else.

What kind of weirdo feels the need to touch the brain of a dead guy?

Maybe I missed something.

It was pretty swift of him to line up with the other men after everyone escaped. I suppose if he had boasted that he was the one who saved everyone, it would have just caused him trouble.

Crozier would have tried to find some reason to blame him for the fire and would have ended up having him lashed another 30 or 40 times.

We finally got a good look at the Tuunbaq. It's not that scary looking. It's certainly not pretty, but it's not the stuff of nightmares.

I would have liked it better if we didn't get a full look at it like we did when it came to Lady Silence. The creature responsible for brutally killing Sir John and all those other men almost looked like a Disney creation. There was no terror to the terror.

It was more intimidating when we only saw parts of it like when it was facing Mr. Blanky down on The Terror Season 1 Episode 6. It should have stayed in the shadows.

Rituals

If no one was managing the Tuunbaq, what has it been doing for the last two weeks since its last attack?

An even better question is what has lady Silence been doing for the last two weeks. Why did she choose the night of the celebration to summon the monster? It didn't seem as if she knew they were having a big party.

That's why it was so surprising when she crashed the party. It wasn't as if she needed to show the Tuunbaq where they lived because the creature already made several visits to the ships.

And if she was running there to warn them, what good was it when she cut out her own tongue? The only thing I can think of that might be the reason she ran there was to look for Dr. Goodsir to help her with the bleeding.

She also lost a lot of blood so it's almost unbelievable that she would have made it that far without collapsing long before she did in the tent -- especially with the cold.

Her reason for running to men will be revealed soon enough.

While I was disappointed with the monster, the real terror for the men is just beginning. Sure, Mr. Disney Tuunbaq will probably kill a few more men, but the monster will be the least of the men's worries.

What did you think of "A Mercy"? Were you surprised at what Dr. Stanley did?

Why do you think Lady Silence went back to the men?
