If you thought Emily's (Alexis Bledel) journey was terrifying on The Handmaid's Tale Season 1, then you should probably buckle up.

Hulu today released a new picture of The Handmaid's Tale Season 2, and it does not exactly show the character in the best of situations.

There were a string of teases about the Colonies throughout the first batch of episodes last year, and now, we'll be heading there in the new episodes.

While it would be fair to assume Emily will be in a better position after leaving her handmaid's uniform behind, that could not be further from the truth.

The reason?

The Colonies are filled with radiation, and that's not entirely good for the people who have been banished to the land which is essentially a prison for the people who fail to follow the orders in Gilead.

Emily's storyline throughout her time on the Hulu hit has been anything but fun.  She was married to a woman, and same-sex relationships were portrayed as one of the biggest sins because fertility rates were falling.

Despite being ripped away from the love of her life, Emily acted out. She was not the type of person to be silenced, and that's what made her such an intriguing ally for June/Offred.

As previously reported, The Handmaid's Tale Season 2 will debut with a two-episode premiere on April 25, 2018.

The official description for it reads "The Emmy-winning drama series returns with a second season shaped by Offred’s pregnancy and her ongoing fight to free her future child from the dystopian horrors of Gilead. “Gilead is within you” is a favorite saying of Aunt Lydia."

The Handmaid's Tale Quotes

A priest, a doctor, a gay man. I think I heard that joke once. This wasn't the punchline.

Offred

A window with white curtains. The glass is shatterproof, but it isn't running away that they're afraid of. A Handmaid wouldn't get far. It's those other escapes, the ones you can open in yourself given a cutting edge or a twisted shape and a chandelier. It's harder on Ceremony Day, but thinking can hurt your chances. My name is Offred. I had another name, but it's forbidden now. So many things are forbidden now.
