The Shannara Chronicles will be non-existent when Spike officially becomes Paramount Network on January 18.

Network president Kevin Kay has confirmed to TV Guide that the rebranded network would not be ordering any more episodes of the show.

"We have officially passed on making any more," Kay revealed.

"Maybe [Sonar Entertainment] is going to take it somewhere else. For us, we passed on the future of that."

Ever since The Shannara Chronicles debuted back in January 2016, it has not had the best treatment.

It emerged as a hit for MTV when it debuted and emerged as the highest-rated and most-watched scripted series of the year for the network.

It was swiftly renewed in April of that year for Season 2, and all seemed right in the world.

However, a whole year passed, and there was no mention of the series, and many wondered whether the series had actually entered production again.

Then, in May 2017, it was announced that the series would relocate to Spike and The Shannara Chronicles Season 2 launched in October of that year.

Ratings slipped almost 80 percent for Season 2, and it ultimately averaged just 0.2 million viewers and a 0.1 rating among adults 18-49.

The erosion was massive, but it could be attributed to the fact the series was off the air for so long between seasons and the change of network.

The show is not dead yet. According to Deadline, Sonar and producers have already been talking with prospective buyers to keep the show alive
