Shameless Season 8 Episode 10 Review: Church of Gay Jesus

Fiona should have known better.

On Shameless Season 8 Episode 10, she decided to be the one to help out the man who fell off of her building, and it resulted in her future being put in jeopardy.

Newfound Fame - Shameless

As soon as she let the family into the house, it was apparent there was going to be a lot more to come from them. They essentially moved the rest of the neighborhood in with them.

It became glaring they were planning on staying a lot more than two days. They were obviously a bit worse for wear, and that's what happens when you're living out of your car.

I think it was a bit much for them to sue Fiona, but I believe the only reason they are suing is so that they can milk the situation and stay in the house for as long as they can.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and Fiona is only going to find herself in trouble when she helps questionable people. That said, I liked that Ford got to see this side of Fiona.

Shocked Face - Shameless Season 8 Episode 10

If you watch Shameless online, you will already know that Fiona has been doing everything and anything to carve out some thriving businesses. She wants to be the best person she can be.

Helping the family out showed Ford how great of a person she is, and to some extent, it helped him realize that she was a great catch. I laughed out loud at Fiona's reaction to the price of the chair.

What sold me on Ford was that he already knew everything about Fiona because he asked around about her. Convenient? Yes. But it helped show that he did not want everything to be about him.

In fact, it showed he cared deeply for her, and I am very invested in seeing where the relationship goes to. Fiona has matured in a lot of ways since her failed engagement to Sean, so I hope she continues to be the headstrong one in the family.

I don't know what to make of the Ian storyline. It was inevitable that he would get a huge following, but I'm unsure where the storyline is going. Ian has been a bit all over the place of late, and I've even questioned whether he's been taking his meds.

When he was addressing the crowd he felt alive. He was nervous beforehand, but the moment he started talking, he realized that it was a subject that was close to him.

This helped him see it through, and I have no idea what will come next with it. Trevor already seems mad because Ian is branching out and going elsewhere to speak to people.

The show needs to move on from this relationship because there's no spark whatsoever. Whatever connection they had was ruined the moment Ian skipped town to be with Mickey.

Ian at Work - Shameless Season 8 Episode 10

What this whole storyline has proved is that Ian still has a lot of growing up to do. He wanted to be an EMT, and he's accomplished that goal, but now there's a new and exciting journey out there for him.

Will he roll with it or will he bail out? That will be one of the more interesting questions in the final two episodes of Shameless Season 8

Was anyone else floored by the reveal that Youens died in prison? When the prison clerk looked confused, I thought she was going to say that Youens had his visitation rights revoked.

I've said many times that the best place for Youens is a prison to help him kick the alcohol, but I completely neglected to think about the effect lack of alcohol would have on his body.

Lip at a Funeral - Shameless Season 8 Episode 10

It was heartbreaking to learn the reason he died, and it was even worse watching Lip react to it. Youens was one of the most influential people in Lip's life.

He helped Lip through many tough times, and that's why he wanted to be the one to save him. There's no telling how Lip will react in the long run to the death, and it has the potential to send him back down a dark path.

"Church of Gay Jesus" was an excellent installment of this Showtime drama series. It successfully set the wheels in motion for a thrilling conclusion to the season.

Other tidbits from the episode:

  • Frank is back to his old ways and all the respect I had for him this season is gone.
  • What will Debbie do now that she's welded her toes together?
  • Kassidy is 50 shades of crazy. That girl will not be happy until Carl decides to quit the marines. A faux pregnancy shouldn't be far behind.
  • Svetlana has such high standards when it comes to suitors.
