The team-up you never knew you needed: Burgess and Upton. Bupton? Urges? Both names have a nice ring to it. 

With Halstead on desk duty, Upton found a temporary partner in Burgess on Chicago PD Season 5 Episode 11.

And Burgess, who was taking on her first CI in her career, really needed the guidance, even if she didn't want to admit it.

Burgess is a tough cookie — that's what secured her a spot in Intelligence. But, believe it or not, there is such a thing as being too tough in Chicago. 

When it comes to the Intelligence unit, Burgess is the one who mostly plays it by the book. While that's encouraged in this time of police reform, it doesn't always work. 

Yah, the books not always right. Sometimes you gotta trust your gut.

Upton

Upton made sure to tell her to follow her gut, which is a lot harder to do than it sounds, especially when you're dealing with someone's life and trying to prove yourself at the same time. 

While Burgess has seniority over Upton, she's less experienced. 

Up until now, Platt has been her guiding force, but something tells me this blossoming friendship means that Burgess will now have a friend to turn to and from whom to get advice.

They even have a dinner date planned! 

Burgess was so determined to prove herself and get justice served for the missing girls, she forced her CI to do something that she didn't feel comfortable with and it got her killed. 

Tragic, yes, but a valuable lesson, nonetheless. 

Like Upton told her, there's no right call to make, just the one you think is necessary. So while it may have infuriated Burgess that Upton wasn't willing to risk her CI, it made sense in the long run. 

A CI's job is to provide intel to the CPD, but you still have to treat them as humans, and even friends.

Burgess: Raul's job, an informant's job, is to provide information. He is an asset to the Chicago Police Department.
Upton: No, he is a person and he is a friend.

I haven't always been a fan of Upton's, but she's slowly earning my respect. She's like that good friend who is always getting involved in your business and even though it irritates you, you know she's got the best intentions. 

Even when Burgess didn't want the help, she was there to keep her in check and give her advice, just like she did with Halstead on Chicago PD Season 5 Episode 10.

I admire her for staying true to herself, being brave enough to step on some toes and having everyone's back, even when they don't agree with her decision. 

Burgess' strong suit lies in reading human emotions. She can work an interrogation room like it's nobody's business!

She knew that Isabelle would pick up the phone and call Damien from the safe house, which would lead to his capture.

She also knew that the only way to convince her to give him up is by getting personal and talking about a love that didn't love her back. 

Honestly, Stockholm Syndrome is fascinating; this girl knows that her "boyfriend" killed someone, she knows he's holding multiple girls hostage in a room and yet she refuses to give him up. She keeps telling herself he loves her as a survival strategy. From the outside looking in, it's impossible to comprehend. 

Did anyone else tear up seeing Ruzek's face droop when he thought Burgess was talking about him? Just me? Okay.

Ruzek: Why is she protecting that son of a bitch? I don't get it.
Burgess: Because she's in love with him.
Ruzek: In love with him?
Burgess: Yeah.
Ruzek: That's not love. That's Stockholm Syndrome.
Burgess: Try telling her it's not love. Sometimes, people, they trick themselves into believing what they want to believe because it feels better than the alternative.
Ruzek: Well sometimes it's real. And there's no trick or delusions. It's just good. It might be complicated but it's good.

Thankfully, it wasn't about Ruzek! 

The series is succeeding in delivering a wide-array of storylines this season, offering depth to characters on both personal and professional levels. 

On the personal level, we finally got some Burzek action! 

They've been dropping little Burzek moments here and there and it was all leading up to that epic kiss! 

I enjoyed Burgess and Ruzek as a couple before, but now, more than ever, they connect on a completely different level. Friends first, lovers second. 

It's understandable that Burgess still has her hesitations — they had a failed engagement after all — but Ruzek seems to have learned his lesson. 

I also don't mind if it just remains "fun." Voight might be anti-relationships, but is he also anti-friends-with-benefits?

Not much on the Woods front other than Voight and Olinsky addressing that it's a 'thing'. Whatever they've got planned for him, I hope he's ready. 

Ruzek isn't off the hook just yet, but at least he's a step-above Halstead.

Therapy and desk duty, it doesn't get better than that! Hey, that's what happens when you put the whole unit, and your career, at risk! 

He may have been hesitant about opening up at first, but after Upton's comment, he realized that if he wants a second chance and his spot back, he needs to address those underlying issues. 

Hopefully, an upcoming episode will address Halstead's progress because I don't think I can deal with him sidelined for too long. 

And the best for last — that Olinsky and Voight team-up. 

At this point, I've accepted that we won't have an Olinsky-centric episode. I'll be content with Voight going rogue and Olinsky covering for him. Interrogation rooms? Check! Dark alleyways? Check. Hospital rooms? CHECK!

These two have the 'intimidation' tactic down!
