Elementary Season 6: CBS Orders More Episodes!

Elementary Season 6 has yet to hit the air, and CBS has given the procedural drama series a huge vote of confidence.

According to Deadline, the network has increased the initial 13 episode order all the way up to 21.

This is surprising when you consider the fact that there is no premiere date in place for the series.

The news is timely because CBS announced just a few days ago that Wisdom of the Crowd would not be getting a back order.

It remains to be seen whether the network will relaunch Elementary on Sunday nights. Its ratings are not high these days, so it would not make much sense to send it anywhere else on the schedule.

Elementary Season 5 averaged 4.8 million viewers and a 0.6 rating among adults 18-49. The numbers swelled to 7.4 million viewers and a 1.2 rating when DVR ratings were factored in.

There is an audience, but much of the fans do not seem to want to watch the show live. The show was apparently kept around because it has a lucrative syndication deal.

The various deals are allegedly worth $3 million per episode which does explain why Elementary is a show the network would be willing to let continue with lower than average ratings.

According to Les Moonves, Elementary raked in a profit of $80 million for the 2015-2016 season. Even though the live ratings are soft, it performs well internationally, and the network appears happy to keep it around so long as a profit is turned in.
