The Brave Season 1 Episode 2 Review: Moscow Rules

Even though we know our team will win in the end, it doesn't take away from the intensity of The Brave. Getting pulled into the mission almost immediately is one of the greatest things about this show.
There's no long set up. No drawn out family drama to start us off. It's just boom and go. We're kept at the edge of our seats from beginning to end and all the while we're getting to know the team members and what makes them tick.
On The Brave Season 1 Episode 2, Dalton and the team are sent to the Ukraine to rescue CIA Agent Cassie Connor who is being hunted by an elite group of Russian agents. It should be an easy extraction, but things get a bit complicated, as we knew they would.
Adam Dalton once again showed why he's the leader of the team. He's wise, patient and easygoing, but when it's time to get down to it, he doesn't fool around. He has no problems pulling the trigger, and he does it without hesitation.
I was blown away when he blew away the Russian soldier after not getting any info from the guy. Even if he would have gotten what he wanted, Dalton still would have shot him. That's the nature of their job, and you have to respect what it is that they do as brutal as it is.
They're risking their lives so there's no room for negotiation. And there's no doubt if the roles were reversed the Russian wouldn't have thought twice about killing Dalton or anyone else on his team.
Connor was easy to find when the team first went in, but after the extraction helicopter was shot down, it became a more dangerous game. The Russians were willing to do anything to get to Connor, and for good reason.
She was the handler for a CIA mole who was part of Putin's inner circle. If she was caught she'd be forced to identify the mole and that would cause some serious problems.
Campbell wasn't able to share all the details with Dalton, but she doesn't really need to. To him, Connor is a mission. A job. The less he knows, the easier it is for him to do what needs to be done. His mind doesn't need to be cluttered with the details.
That's why he and Campbell work so well together. They're in sync. She knows what makes him tick and gives him exactly what he needs to know to get the job done. And it's amazing how much she tells him without telling him anything.
Connor herself is quite resourceful. She's able to get away from the enemy numerous times.
At one point Dalton is told to stand down until Connor could reveal her location. This doesn't sit well with Jaz who thinks they should be out there looking for the woman instead of sitting around waiting for instructions from Washington.
Things start to get testy between the team members until Dalton steps in, and in his very gentle way of doing things, gets everybody to calm down and focus on what they need to focus on.
Only Preach understood the value of waiting, and its obvious Preach has been around the block a few times. The young ones could learn a thing or two from him.
It doesn't take long for them to get word on Connor. She knew what she was doing and left a trail for Washington that points to a women's bathhouse where she has taken refuge.
The team heads there, Jaz goes and gets Connor to safety. Even though the mission was accomplished, Preach and Dalton haven't shown up at the helicopter as expected.
It would be ridiculous to think that Dalton and Preach would die after only two episodes, but the tension waiting for them to emerge was real.
I was half expecting to see Dalton carrying Preach or the other way around. It was a relief to see that they were both intact. Jaz was quite relieved too.
Once again the team wins, and once again I think it's great that we have something to cheer about. I want the team to be successful every time they go out on a mission.
The Brave isn't necessarily a feel-good show, but it sure makes me feel good when they win.
At this point, I'm still much more interested in the ground team than I am in the D.C. team. I know we learned a bit about Noah's character this hour, but I just wasn't that into it. Other than Campbell, the home team just isn't that interesting.
