Once Upon a Time Season 7 Episode 3 Review: The Garden of Forking Paths

Victoria Belfrey needs to go.

That much became abundantly clear on Once Upon a Time Season 7 Episode 3 as the supervillain continued to try and keep up the charade in Hyperion Heights.

It was great that the town joined forces to get the signatures as it proved everyone is not evil. Maybe the town is more like Storybrooke than we first thought.

Despite being under the curse, everyone still wanted to rebel and keep the garden in one piece.

You would think the curse would be much stronger in regards to keeping everyone on the same side with the person who unleashed it.

A Team? - Once Upon a Time Season 7 Episode 3

Then again, there would be no story to tell if everyone blindly followed Gabrielle Anwar's alter ego without some doubts.

Victoria going out of her way to get rid of the garden was a typical thing to do for a villain.

The offer of the condo from Victoria was fake as hell.

Hell would freeze over before Victoria would ever do anything nice for Jacinda. It was far too gullible of Jacinda to think her stepmother would do anything other than cause her trouble.

Jacinda has been problematic since she debuted on Once Upon a Time Season 7 Episode 1, and I can't put my finger on why. Maybe it's because I keep expecting Dania Ramirez to say "Mr. Spence" after every line.

A New Look - Once Upon a Time Season 7 Episode 3

She will always be Rosie from Devious Maids to me, you guys!

I want to find out what went on between Cinderella and Anastasia because it's apparent there is bad blood there, and that's something Victoria will use to her advantage in her quest for world domination.

Now that we understand why, exactly, Lady Tremaine/Victoria hates Cinderella so much, it should be great to see how Jacinda reacts when she finds out the truth about it. Will Victoria know to take Henry's heart to try and wake her daughter up from her slumber?

It is rather frustrating that the truest believer (Henry) is the one who does not seem to believe he has both a wife and a daughter who are still alive. Henry was floored when the cemetery miraculously disappeared on Once Upon a Time Season 7 Episode 1.

I Have a Dark Past - Once Upon a Time Season 7 Episode 3

After the big win with the signatures, and the subsequent nice day with Lucy and Jacinda, you could tell Henry wanted it all to be true. He wanted to belong somewhere. My heart broke for him when he actually attended the cemetery.

That could have been the moment he realized he had been fed some baloney from the villains and that his loved ones could be alive. In hindsight, it's better to keep the mystery going because having Henry learn the truth so early on Once Upon a Time Season 7 would ruin the little momentum the series has going for it.

Surprisingly, the action in both timelines was worth watching. Based on the promos and official pictures, I thought for sure that Cinderella was going to lie about her identity in the name of leaving Henry behind.

Having Princess Tiana lead a resistance against Lady Tremaine was one of the best developments for me. Mekia Cox is turning in a solid performance as the Princess who is ready to go to war to fight for what's right.

Another Danger - Once Upon a Time

I had to agree with Cinderella when she questioned Tiana about where the resistance was when her father was murdered. There is still much we do not know about this brand new world created by the powers that be.

There's something strange about Tiana and I think the two will become enemies and that's why the curse has them hanging around together in Hyperion HeIghts.

I can't be the only one who liked all of the interactions between Regina and Cinderella. I definitely took Regina as the terrified mother upset by her son dating, but she was mature about all of it.

A part of her probably wanted to take Henry home and warn him to steer clear of the dating world, but that was not something that could happen without some convoluted scenes.

We are still no closer to knowing what Weaver is really up to, and that's not a good thing. Robert Carlyle is a wonderful actor, but there has not been nearly enough to go on here.

Making a Run for It? - Once Upon a Time Season 7 Episode 3

Considering the fact Belle returns on Once Upon a Time Season 7 Episode 4, we should get some exciting tidbits about what happened to them after Once Upon a Time Season 6 Episode 22

The pair definitely had their Beauty & the Beast inspired happy ending, so I hope the new twist in the tale flows well and does not feel like a convoluted way to advance the plot.

"The Garden of Forking Paths" was another solid installment of the series. Despite some issues, the new world is starting to take shape, and it's making things more exciting.

Oher tidbits from the episode:

  • Where was Drizella? Adelaide Kane is one of the best parts of this rebooted series.
  • Tiana's entrance scene was awesome. Cinderella thought she was done for, but Tiana showed up right in the nick of time.
  • Is anyone else getting the feeling that Regina and Wish Hook are going to become an item? That would make for an awkward reunion with everyone in Storybrooke.
  • Regina's new look was one of the highlights of the entire season! Lana Parrilla could really wear anything and manage to pull the look off without a flaw.
  • Was I the only one who had no clue who Victoria was talking to at the end of the episode?
