NCIS will be down another series regular after NCIS Season 15.
Perrette confirmed the sad news on Twitter early Wednesday morning.
"So, it is true that I am leaving NCIS after this season. There has been all kinds of false stories as to why (NO I DON'T HAVE A SKIN CARE LINE AND NO MY NETWORK AND SHOW ARE NOT MAD AT ME!)," she wrote.
"It was a decision made last year. I hope everyone will love and enjoy EVERYTHING ABBY not only for the rest of this season but for everything she has given all of us for 16 years.
"All the love, all the laughter, all the inspiration…I love her as much as you do."
Pauley has played Abby Sciuto since the hit CBS series debuted back in 2003, so she has had a good run with the show. It's not uncommon for series regulars to depart longer running series in favor of new roles.
Sixteen years is a long time to spend on any project, and Pauley has been devoted to bringing viewers a first-class performance as Abby over the years.
There's no denying that she's part of what makes NCIS such a great show, so we're cautious about what the show will look like after her exit.
Hopefully, she will not be killed off-screen like some of the other characters on the show. That would suck.
Given that she is departing at the close of NCIS Season 15, it should be plenty of time to wrap up her arc with the show and say farewell.
The procedural currently stars Mark Harmon, Sean Murray, Emily Wickersham, Wilmer Valderrama, Maria Bello, Brian Dietzen, Duane Henry, Rocky Carroll and David McCallum.
The show is still ratings draw for CBS with last week's season premiere managing over 13 million viewers and a 1.6 rating among adults 18-49.
It's not as highly-rated as it once was, but it is still a reliable performer for the network.
