Another year, another drop for the Emmy Awards.

The event which brings together the best talent on the small screen has been struggling in the ratings over the last few years, and the latest telecast has not reversed the downward spiral.

The 69th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards secured 9.6 million viewers and a 2.1 rating among the all-important adults 18-49 demographic.

That's down considerably from the 11.3 million viewers and the 2.8 rating for the 2016 ceremony. Maybe people don't like to watch the Emmys live.

The show was a star-studded affair that found The Handmaid's Tale and Big Little Lies coming up top trumps with a string of high-profile awards.

It also changed the game for Hulu who has long vied for an original production that could help establish the streaming giant as a destination for some of the best drama on TV.

Over on Fox, the NFL Overrun secured 18.9 million viewers and a 6.5 rating. The Orville Season 1 Episode 2 followed with 7.6 million viewers and a 2.6 rating.

This is down just two-tenths from the new show's series premiere, but there is word that there were some delays, so the ratings will more likely adjust when the final nationals are released on Tuesday morning.

What do you think of the low ratings for the Emmys?
