So it begins. One door closes, and another opens, fitting for an episode titled. "Janus," who, if you didn't know, is the Roman God of Entrances and Exits.

The Exorcist Season 2 Episode 1 finds Father Tomas and Marcus in rural Montana trying to save a young woman possessed by a demon. If it sounds familiar, it is. Cindy looks a lot like Casey, and the effects of Cindy's demon possession look very similar.

The difference is that Father Tomas and Marcus apparently kidnapped Cindy much to the chagrin of her husband and family who are chasing down the priests to bring Cindy back home.

Oh, and there's an eerie connection to a foster home in Seattle which neither of them knows about yet. Yep. The Exorcist is back in all its creepy glory.

There are two storylines running together this hour which at first don't seem related at all. It takes the entire episode before we understand the connection between Montana and Seattle, but it was well worth the wait.

Marcus and Father Tomas are racing against the clock to rid Cindy of the demon possessing her. It's not clear how long they've been working on her, but they're running like outlaws to try to save her.

Tomas has a vision and wants to fight the demon from the inside, which he thinks will be more effective. Marcus immediately balks at the idea. He even tries to convince Tomas his blacking out was because of lack of sleep even though he knows that isn't true.

Father Tomas has always had visions. He "met" Marcus through a vision that was part of the foundation for the story in Chicago, and Tomas' visions this time around are laying the foundation for the story in Seattle where you know the two priests will end up eventually.

Marcus also knows that Father Tomas likes playing with fire. He lives on the edge, and it's a very dangerous place to be.

After six months of training, he hoped that Tomas would have learned something from his experiences in Chicago. Letting the devil inside is not a good thing.

But Tomas is strong-headed, and he's going to do what he thinks will work best. When Marcus went outside to fend off Cindy's family, Father Tomas saw it as the perfect opportunity to try out his theory.

And this is where the Seattle and Montana stories connected. It was creepy as hell when Cindy opened her mouth and the song from Caleb's record starting playing. And the handprints solidified the connection.

Whether the focus on the small blue hand was significant or not is unclear. All we know is the big bad of this season is in Seattle.

Father Tomas was hoping to have Cindy's exorcism done before Marcus came back or at least to have a good part of it done to show that it was the quickest way to get rid of the demon, but he never had the chance.

Marcus saw Father Tomas in the throes of possession, and this will drive a wedge between the two men. Marcus is going to be angry that Father Tomas defied him, but there's also a vein of jealousy running through him. Tomas has something he doesn't.

Marcus has been fighting the fight for so long; he's going to question why he wasn't given a gift like Tomas. He may be questioning that already.

But for the moment, Marcus and Father Tomas are going to have to make a decision about Cindy. Her family is taking her to a hospital for treatment. Are we going to have another Chicago moment? They don't have an Angela fighting for them, so it may turn out that Cindy is a lost cause.

Still, there has to be something that's going to spark Father Tomas to figure out there's something in Seattle they need to confront.

I don't want to believe that the evil lives inside an old, abandoned house in the middle of a forest on an island near Seattle, but there's definitely something creepy out there.

And whatever evil force is on the island has an affinity for Caleb, the newest member of Andy's household. At least it seems that way now.

We know from experience that the one you think has the evil presence is usually not the one who actually has it. Still, playing a record backward was weird even if it was a horror story cliche.

It could be that Rose has something to do with it since she just arrived, but that would be too convenient. I'm really hoping she doesn't turn out to be the lady who is there to support the evil on the island.

And what's the deal with her and Andy? He was very nervous that she would use their past against him which makes it seem like it could be more than just romantic.

How will Andy's other kids fit into the story? Will the evil be jumping around from kid to kid?

"Janus" was a decent start to the second season. While there were some elements that felt familiar, there were threads laid down that could take some interesting and unexpected turns.
