Fear the Walking Dead Season 3 Episode 11 Review: La Serpiente

at .

Things come to those who wait.

Strand gave that phrase all the more meaning on Fear the Walking Dead Season 3 Episode 11, as he was able to lead Madison and Walker back to the dam. Although, they did hit a few bumps in the road along the way.

First, let me just start by saying how ridiculous the diversion Strand used for the herd of infected was. You mean to tell me that the beep generated from that little button cell powered key ring was more of a distraction than the 40-ton truck they were driving?

Road trip - Fear the Walking Dead

Other than the opening of the episode, the rest of it was pretty solid.

The trio's journey through the sewers was a creepy set piece, and watching them crawl through all that sludge was disgustingly fun! While the scenes in the tunnels set some nice atmospheric tension, I kept wondering what would have happened had Walker been killed down there.

Good luck explaining that one to Walker's people back at the ranch.

Luckily, that didn't happen, and they were able to get through the pipes after Madison dismembered the bloated infected.

Madison passing the infected's head and limbs back to Strand and Walker provided some levity to an otherwise tense moment.

The waiting game - Fear the Walking Dead

Daniel's reaction to seeing Strand again was hysterical. I can only imagine what was going through his head at that moment. After leaving Strand for dead on Fear the Walking Dead Season 3 Episode 5, he was the last person Daniel expected to see again.

Daniel and Madison's reunion though was a great moment. Madison almost couldn't believe it at first and was likely still in shock from Strand's revelation about Daniel moments earlier.

Naturally, Daniel was a bit skeptical of Madison, but that was merely because of her company. Madison and Daniel have a solid relationship, so it was great to see that they were able to basically pick right up where they left off.

Daniel's relief after hearing that Ofelia is alive was so genuine and something that he had been longing to hear.

She's alive Daniel.

Madison [referring to Ofelia]

The initial negotiations between Madison and Lola didn't go as well as I anticipated. I was surprised by how reluctant Lola was on the water situation. She felt Madison had nothing to offer, but Daniel has been trying to warn Lola that they need weapons to defend themselves.

The ranch has weapons; the dam has water. It seemed like a win-win. However, Lola didn't want to hear it, as she didn't feel there was any threat to warrant a trade for weapons.

It's difficult not to be frustrated by Lola's ignorance, but I can understand her commitment to the dam and taking care of her own.

Their whole trek to the dam seemed like a lost cause.

Something fishy - Fear the Walking Dead

Daniel cared about Lola and made a promise to help her, but at the same time wants to do right by Madison which is what made the water truck sabotage so much fun.

It was enough to convince Lola that they need to be able to defend themselves, and was able to reach a deal with Madison in exchange for water. I have to hand it to Madison; the woman is a damn good negotiator.

Madison and Strand - Fear the Walking Dead

In the end, Daniel helped Madison, and he doesn't lose Lola's trust. It was a perfect plan, and it played out beautifully.

Lola asking for Ofelia to be at the exchange sweetened the pot. Since Ofelia seems to have come to terms with her father being dead, and Daniel willing to keep it that way, I'm curious to see how the coming reunion will play out.

Strand: Adiós Daniel.
Daniel: No Adiós Strand. I expect you back in five days, with my daughter.

One thing I am concerned about is that Efrain's loyalty to Lola appears to be wavering. He seems fixated on the idea of just letting the water run loose and let everyone in need have their fill, but he doesn't see the danger in that.

What to do - Fear the Walking Dead

Lola is right that there needs to be order. Without order, there will be chaos.

Ofelia thinks I'm dead, maybe it's for the best.

Daniel

Aside from the silly infected distraction that opened the hour, the episode moved the story along in a big way.

Like the water within the dam itself, there was a much better flow during this hour than the previous two episodes that started the second half of the season. It was great to see Madison and Daniel pick their relationship up right where they left off, and we're also one step closer to getting our Daniel/Ofelia reunion.
