Game of Thrones fever continued to help HBO in the ratings last night.

Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 7 raced to a brand new series high in total viewers. It secured a mammoth 12.1 million viewers for one of the show's most shocking episodes to date.

What's Her Plan? - Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 7

That was up almost 2 million viewers from those who watched last week's episode which was set beyond the wall and featured the death of one of the dragons.

Have a look at the total viewer tally for every season finale to date:

The demo results were not available at press time, but they are expected to be released Tuesday morning. Look for the show to hit a new high in that metric.

This week's XL episode focused on a meeting that took place between the different factions of the Seven Kingdoms as they tried to broker a deal with Cersei Lannister to join them in their fight against the elusive Night King and his ever-growing army.

Time for War? - Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 7

Despite Cersei acting like she was on board, she was secretly plotting to fight the remainder of the humans if the war was won. It was a bold move, but it came at the expense of her incestuous relationship with her brother, Jaime.

Unlike Cersei, Jaime knew the war was coming and that it would be a good idea to have the mother of dragons on his side. So, Jaime departed King's Landing as Cersei ordered The Mountain to kill him.

On top of all of that drama, Sansa finally realized Littlefinger was up to no good and had Sansa slit his throat in court while everyone watched on in shock.

Stay Together - Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 7

But the biggest reveal of all came when it was confirmed that Jon Snow was not a bastard and that his father Rhaegar had actually married Ned's sister, Lyanna Stark in private.

Oh, and Jon's real name was revealed to be Aegon.

With Jon hitting bone town with Daenerys, are we to assume there will be some drama between them when it emerges that Jon is the one who has the higher claim to the throne?

The milestone episode closed with the Night King riding Viserion to the wall and bringing it down, clearing a pathway for his minions to unleash seven hells on the Seven Kingdoms.

Game of Thrones Quotes

Tis a big and beautiful world. Most of us live and die in the same corner where we were born and never get to see any of it. I don't want to be most of us.

Tyrion: Let me give you some advice bastard. Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you.
Jon: What the hell do you know about being a bastard?
Tyrion: All dwarfs are bastards in their father's eyes.
