The CW has decided to stick with The Originals and iZombie by ordering additional seasons of each while ordering Life Sentence and Black Lightning to series.
The renewal for iZombie for Season 4 was a no brainer because of The CW's lucrative streaming deal with Netflix, which likes to have series reach a fourth season.
Despite marginally higher ratings and airing on Friday nights, the writing was on the wall for The Originals. For a start, the cast has done little to nothing to promote the series this year.
Also, parent series, The Vampire Diaries concluded earlier this year and you can probably understand why fans were concerned about whether the series was toast.
iZombie is averaging 0.9 million viewers and a 0.3 rating, with The Originals doing 1 million viewers and a 0.3 rating.
Episode orders have yet to be disclosed, but CW head, Mark Pedowitz did not confirm episode orders until after the 2016 Upfront presentation last year, so we can probably expect a similar result this time around.
After ordering Valor and Dynasty to series earlier this evening, the network has now pulled the trigger on series orders for Black Lightning and Life Sentence.
Black Lightning stars Cress Williams as the titular hero. It focuses on Jefferson Pierce, who hung up his superhero suit several years ago, who is forced to return to his superhero fighting ways.
Riverdale also hails from Greg Berlanti, so this marks his sixth series with the network.
Life Sentence stars Lucy Hale, who is fresh off her seven-season stint on Freeform's Pretty Little Liars. It centers on a young woman who finds out she has terminal cancer and makes some rash decisions.
However, she later finds out that she is not dying and needs to come to terms with the decisions she made when she thought she was dying.
What do you think of the renewals and series orders?
