Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 21 Review: Brace for Impact

Nice job coming full circle, Designated Survivor. Nice job.

The traitor was finally caught on Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 21, giving President Kirkman the opportunity to tell the American people the truth about the Capitol bombing.

And because he decided to address the nation on the Congressional floor, he had to appoint his own designated survivor. It was a nice way to end the season even if there's still a bad guy at large.

Aaron on the Move - Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 21

The only disappointing part of it all is that Jason is really dead. I guess it's better that he is instead of him being resurrected in some sort of silly miraculous way after being shot point blank in the chest.

I would have liked for him to have gotten some sort of closure for the death of his son, but maybe his final act of sending Hannah the pictures and audio recording of Whitaker and Lloyd satisfies that in some way.

If it wasn't for that file, Whitaker would have just walked off into the sunset.

I have to be honest, I love, love, loved how Mike came around the corner to block him after Hannah learned he was the traitor. After all the disappointing build up about the who was the traitor,  it was a nice payoff to see the guy get busted by none other than Mike.

And Whitaker thought he was being slick too, so it was even more satisfying to see the look on his face when he got caught.

So thank you, Jason. You made my day.

Alex and Emily - Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 21

Hannah was quite busy this hour chasing after bad guys. She was able to get the bomb-laden van into a lake to explode saving hundreds of lives at the FBI headquarters.

The FBI agents who arrested her weren't convinced she was innocent until they got a call from the President himself demanding they let her go. How embarrassing.

She finally caught Lozano and got into a major Nikita-style fight. She kicked his ass as she should have, but unfortunately he impaled himself and didn't give up any new information about what was happening and why.

That's another reason we can thank Jason for getting that information to her. Without it, Hannah and friends would be at a dead end.

Whitaker would be free and the powers that be wouldn't even know that our defense system was just made vulnerable by what Lozano did at the Pentagon.

I do have to make a nitpick here. With all the security at the Pentagon, I found it a little unbelievable that the room Lozano went into had absolutely no one in it or around it to keep it secure.

General Cochrane - Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 21

Wouldn't they be extra vigilant considering what happened at the Capitol?

Plus, that's a lot of sensitive information in one place with no security. But this is television and I'm a believer in Designated Survivor.

I'm just saying.

President Kirkman continued his win streak of being the most awesome president ever. When can we make the official switch?

He convinced Abe Leonard not to run with the story about Jason which worked out for Abe considering Kirkman laid everything out to the American people as he promised.

And for his patience, Leonard got a nice recognition when Kirkman made his speech. Still, couldn't Abe have dressed a little nicer when he met with Tom? Why is that guy always so disheveled?

I hope Abe sticks around next season. There's a lot more story for him to tell and maybe he'll get some inside scoop now that he's made friends with Kirkman.

I loved how Tom fiddled with his glasses while talking to him. I wonder what he would have done had Abe not cooperated? Those glasses would have been off his face and he would have flipped to Jack Bauer mode.

Nah. Tom Kirkman isn't anything like that.  But I wouldn't have been surprised if he would have thrown him in jail. Because he could. And it would have been justified considering it had to do with national security, but Tom isn't that type of guy.

He's fair and he plays by the rules.

Good things happen to good people and Tom is a perfect example of this.

He gave one helluva speech at the end of the hour. It was amazing that everyone was glued to their screens. People really do pull for the underdog and this underdog really pulled through for the people.

He deserved every clap he got. I almost felt like giving him a standing ovation myself.

He's come a long way from the Tom Kirkman we met at the beginning of the season. And wasn't it awesome that he picked President Moss to be his designated survivor?

A Concerned Emily - Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 21

The conspiracy still exists. Lloyd can't be acting alone and I'm still guessing that someone even bigger than Whitaker (small potatoes) is involved.

My money is still on Alex! Yep. I'm not budging there.

Other loose ends were tied up as well. Aaron is back working at the White House where he belongs and General Cochrane was released from house arrest. Maybe he'll return to the job as well?

The only person missing was Speaker Hookstraten, but maybe we'll see her again next season.

Overall, Designated Survivor ended its first season in a satisfying way neatly tying up loose ends while giving us something to look forward to next season.

What did you think of the season finale? Did all the loose ends get tied up to your satisfaction? What's next?

It's not over. No victory without sacrifice.

Knowing the President as well as I do, if he's holding on to any sort of secret, it's for the safety of the American people.
