The countdown until the emotional winter premiere of The Fosters is nearly over.

On The Fosters Season 4 Episode 10, multiple members of the Adams-Foster clan found themselves in some form of danger. Fans were left on the edge of their seats when the summer finale ended on a cliffhanger. 

Is Jesus alive and well? Did Callie really get kidnapped by a killer? You'll have to tune into The Fosters Season 4 Episode 11 to find out! 

But TV Fanatic did get the opportunity to chat with Kalama Epstein, who stars as the lovable and mischievous pastor's son, and Jude's new beau, Noah.

He couldn't reveal too much, but he could tease us a bit on where Jude is during the premiere and about what to expect from Joah this season. He also talks about his favorite shows and movies, what attracted him to the role of Noah, and more. Check out our interview below!

So I’ll start off with, how much can you tell us about the premiere without getting into any type of trouble?

Kalama Epstein: What I can tell you…we released one scene, so as people know so far. The season with me starts off with, Jude and Noah’s storyline…we may or may not sneak onto a boat. We may or may not light a doobie. We may or may not get high.

Who knows? Who can tell? I don’t want to spoil anything else, because it gets really fun in that episode. But yeah, Noah and Jude are getting a little bit mischievous.

I do like Noah, and he’s good for Jude in a lot of ways, but he does seem to get Jude into a little trouble. Especially with the marijuana. Where did that come from?

Marijuana stems from Noah’s anxiety. He has a lot of anxiety in a lot of situations, so he has a medical marijuana card. But definitely, he’s been using that to his advantage for recreational use. [Noah] and Jude have.

What was it about this role? What attracted you to the role of Noah?

I definitely think the character himself…the biggest thing for me is his mom’s a pastor. He comes from a religious family, he comes from a church, but his congregation is incredibly accepting. And that’s so refreshing. It’s very refreshing for me to see that.

I’m not necessarily a religious person, but to see a church portray that way is very nice. Especially this person, he’s very proud of who he is. It’s so great and it comes from the people around him being so accepting.

I agree. It’s definitely one of the things I love about his character. It’s so rare to see any show portray more accepting Christians, especially when it comes to LGBTQ issues. Noah is so out there and open, and that seems to be good for Jude.

It’s different from Jonnor, and I don't want to anger Jonnor fans, but — where Connor didn’t always accept who he was. Also, Noah is more experienced. Is that going to come up more at any point?

Yeah, we do end up touching on that. Noah is a little more experienced. But Jude definitely needed those experiences with Connor. It was incredibly important in Jude’s life. Everyone kinda goes through that and needs that.

Puppy love.

Right.

So would you say Joah is a bit more of a mature relationship?

Yeah. Yeah, it’s a new chapter in Jude’s life. They’re a little bit more, it’s a bit more mature, but at the same time they’re still sneaking out constantly and being kind of rebellious teenagers.

We know Noah was in a previous relationship that didn’t end so well. Will we find anything else out about that?

You know, not necessarily about the relationship itself. We may learn a little bit more, but we won’t go too deep into his past relationships. I don’t think we’ll dive too deep into that in the second part of the season.

We know you can’t really say much, but we’re guessing the premiere picks up where the finale left off?

Yes! I will say that it picks up right, right where it left off.

Your character brings out the "kid" in Jude. I like the fact that you guys get to be teenagers, because Jude was such a mature kid.

Yeah, I definitely think this second half of the season will have a lot of experiences for both, and a lot of learning experiences for Jude. So we can really grow into who we are as people. I’m excited for everybody to see what we have in store. [Evil laugh]

TVF: [laughs] So what was it like coming onto this set? I know this is a really close, tight-knit cast. Were they, like, hazing the new guy or did you just blend right in?

Pretty much [blended in]. It’s such a huge family, and they welcomed me with open arms. Like, I could not ask for anything better. They put their arms wide open and they embraced me. It was awesome. I couldn’t ask for a better cast. Everybody is just the nicest…they’re the nicest people. I love that cast to death.

Do you have any other projects that are coming up? You want to be a director; do you have anything in the works with that?

I’m writing and I’m trying to film for a film pretty soon…I'm trying to figure out everything, and hoping I can start getting it moving, and writing, and making sure I'm doing something that I want to be doing. But yeah, directing is a huge passion for me.

What made you get into acting and directing?

Films. Just watching movies. I was born and raised in Hawaii, so the extent of what you could do was go to the beach. The beach is the biggest thing. Or go to the movies. I went to the movies like every single week…I watched films constantly growing up, and I fell in love with it.

I branched off from there. My love of films got more intense as I grew up and that’s where the passion for acting and directing came in.

What are your favorite films?

My favorite movie that I can watch over and over again, without getting sick of, is The Dark Knight by Christopher Nolan. Another one is Clockwork Orange by Stanley Kubrick. It’s very high up on my list.

This is TV Fanatic, so we have to ask — what are some of your favorite shows?

Favorite shows? Favorite show is Game of Thrones. I started so many shows that I’m not going to be able to finish, which I think, is a good problem to have. I’m watching Taboo right now with Tom Hardy. I’m really liking that.

I started the Young Pope on HBO, and seeing where that goes. I watch Peaky Blinders with my family. So many…Rick and Morty on Adult Swim. That’s a big favorite of mine.

I know you’re into a lot of different charities. Which ones are you into?

Yeah, I was raised…my father worked with the Special Olympics. That’s always been a huge part of me growing up. Special Olympics is one of them…I grew up volunteering for them. L.A. LGBT center in Los Angeles. The ACLU.

Is there anything else you can tell us about the season?

Season 4B, this season is a lot of fun. There are a lot of fun moments…especially for Jude and Noah. We have a lot of fun. This season gets pretty heart-wrenching, but for Jude and Noah there’s going to be a lot of fun…

We’re having fun watching our relationship grow as we learn more about each other, spend more time witch each other. We get to know each other. Our relationship blossoms.
