It was pretty much a given that no harm would come to Lizzie and Josie on The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 6. We all knew they would be returned to their parents safely because that's just what happens on this series. (And what should have happened, IMO.)
While some shows will go there with the injured children storyline, it's a pretty safe bet that The Powers That Be at TVD aren't that kind. (Looking at you, The Walking Dead.)
But will TVD get halfway through its final season and flip everything we've come to know and love on its head? You bet.
Seline had a plan with the twins which astute individuals could've seen coming a mile away: trade the twins for her own soul and Sybil's. Unfortunately for Damon, Seline's plan required another ten years of serving Cade and Damon Salvatore is nothing if not extremely, amazingly impatient.
So he brokered a deal of his own: his soul, and Stefan's, in exchange for Sybil's freedom and the safe return of Lizzie and Josie to their parent
Stefan agreed. The girls were saved. And that should have been the end. But nothing's ever quite that simple.
Sybil has a devious plan of her own to continue implementing which makes me really, really hate her because we could be done with the entirety of the Siren storyline right now but we're not. These villainesses have not grown on me at all.
In fact, I find them to be a complete distraction from what should really matter in The Vampire Diaries Season 8 and that's a wrap-up of the lives of these characters we love. And sometimes love to hate.
Here's the thing. Sybil has been painted as the "innocent" sister in all of this. She was dead. Cade read her soul screaming to live. She didn't want this life of immortality and eating the souls of men, etc etc etc.
But she definitely wasn't ready to end her connection to Cade and instead made some kind of deal that keeps her relevant to our story.
Has she actually fallen in love with Damon Salvatore and is she now hopeful she can officially and completely erase any and all traces of Elena or reroute them to herself? That...yeah, that wouldn't be surprising at all, actually.
And wouldn't it be a kick in the face to Delena fans if, at the end of the series, Damon rode off into the sunset with Sybil? A woman who, for all intents and purposes, looks a lot like Elena. (Surely I'm not the only one who's noticed, right? Sybil, the Huntress from The Vampire Diaries Season 7,...they look like Elena.)
Talk about a stake to the heart, you guys! That would suck a lot.
It would suck almost as hard as having to watch Steroline do this break-up dance. Twice.
Caroline, knowing she would kill Damon if given half a chance, gave Stefan back the engagement ring and told him that for today, while she was on a quest to find her girls, they weren't a thing. They couldn't be a thing. That's not really how blended families work, Care, but okay.
(Ding ding ding! FORESHADOWING ALERT!)
She took the ring off, handed it back to him, and later, after he had unbeknownst to her pledged his soul to Satan, put it back on and said "we're in this! June wedding! I love you!"
Except, yeah. Not so fast.
Stefan's going dark. And by dark, I mean Ripper Stefan dark and not, like, covert ops dark. Except maybe he'll be sort of covert ops dark? I dunno. Damon might have a plan to get them all out of this, but for now, Stefan's playing it straight.
He has 24 hours with Caroline as a free man and after that he's a soul-sucking slave of Satan. For. Eh. Ver.
And now Caroline's telling Ric to take the girls and get far, far away from her (which might have something to do with him ending up in New Orleans as Matt Davis goes to The Originals) and Stefan's leaving on a bender with Damon and the Devil and Bonnie and Enzo are happy and...see what I mean about flipping everything on its head midseason? Yeah.
Bonnie and Enzo. You guys. YOU. GUYS.
Bonnie and Enzo are the brightest, happiest, most sappy and beautiful and wonderful part of this entire season so far. Their moment after Sybil agreed to let Enzo go when he was telling her how he knew he would experience true love at least once in his life before dying has me SUPER, SUPER scared.
I will not be able to even if Enzo dies. It just won't be possible. If something like that happens, don't expect a review. Expect me to just post videos of my face crying for an hour. That's all I'll be capable of doing.
Bonenzo is life. If they do not get a happy ending, I will start a campaign to flood the offices with...I don't know...guitar picks or something. LET THEM BE HAPPY.
The one thing I absolutely do not understand is why Alaric was so hellbent on killing Damon. Or staking him. Or whatever he did to him at the end that didn't work. The previews for The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 7 show a very much alive Damon at Christmas dinner.
I get that Alaric had a lot of aggression to work out, but maybe get a punching bag, dude. Damon actually didn't do this and very much did save your girls. That's gotta be worth at least two former best friend points, right?
What did you think of "Detoured on Some Random Backwoods Path to Hell"? Wasn't Paul Wesley's directing excellent? How will Stefan and Damon manage to get themselves away from Cade? Or will they? Sound off in the comments below and don't forget you can watch The Vampire Diaries online at TV Fanatic!
