Last Man on Earth Season 3 Episode 8 Review: Whitney Houston, We Have a Problem

Poor Gail.

They were so close.

On Last Man on Earth Season 3 Episode 8 the group searches for Melissa, Todd deals with some complex feelings, and Carol worries something may have happened to Gail.

Finding Melissa - The Last Man on Earth

I'm not always the biggest fan of Tandy's but I actually really enjoyed the physical comedy with the T Rex suit; especially when the mouth opened and closed as he spoke. Todd being scared was a bit much but hey--  he was tired.

I can't tell if we're supposed to think Todd is so distraught about Melissa because he's still in love with her. I mean, he was banging Gail just a few weeks ago.

I think he's more motivated by guilt and/or obligation. He should have been there for her because he did love her at one point, he sincerely believes she's not in her right mind and he was the last person she spoke with so he blames himself for her leaving.

Carol: Has anyone seen my mom? She didn't sleep in her bed last night. She said she was going on vacation but she didn't pack a bag and none of her wines are gone.
Erica: Oh don't worry, Gail does that. She'll be back in a couple of days, reeking of booze but she'll be high on life... and some drugs.
Carol: That's such a relief.

Except for her hilarious comments about Gail, Erica was ignored again.

The show really needs to do more with her. Did the writers forget she's an international bank robber who subtly scammed her way into a position with the Federal government?

I didn't understand Todd's refusal to let Carol search for Gail while they were already out searching for Melissa. Was it going to hinder the search somehow to shout two names?

Also, he was so certain Gail was fine but considering she's the sane one of the two, wouldn't it be more suspicious that she disappeared out of nowhere rather than Melissa?

I was in complete agreement with the rest of the group; either Melissa was already long gone or she would come back on her own. The chances of them finding her in nearby neighborhoods was slim and a waste of time, in my opinion.

Just saying we're wasting time is a waste of time in itself! But he has a point.

Of course Tandy wanted to be there for his best bud and his main squeeze so he was willing to search for both of them.

I like that he didn't completely shut down Carol's concerns like the others. Sure, her mother/daughter intuition was ridiculous, but she has a right to be concerned when someone she cares about disappears for days.

I wasn't surprised when Tandy tried to tell Carol what he thought she wanted to hear. He tends to do that and I personally loved his far-fetched explanation of what happened to Gail. But I also loved the heartfelt, honest conversation it turned into. For all their silliness, Carol and Tandy are a good couple.

Look Carol, this might be hard for you to hear but I need to tell it to you straight. Todd is flat out cray. I'm on your side here. Gail definitely didn't leave because of you. Most likely scenario, she went out to grab you a gift, slipped on some sort of peel, likely banana but who knows, not ruling out citrus and now she's lying at the bottom of some ravine or like impaled on a security fence, definitely dead and all because she loved you so much.

I was trying to figure out how they would ever find Gail and was prepared for something wholly illogical and ludicrous but I totally bought the way it came together. I didn't notice the car Gail took had a pizza sign on it. Luckily Carol did.

I was actually a little tense as they stood just outside the building while Gail was frantically trying to reload her gun. At least Tandy has an idea that something may be up.

Now we just have to wait for him to follow up on it. We know how much he loves to investigate. Hopefully he doesn't get distracted by another hula hoop.

Next week is the fall finale so what do you guys hope to see? Will they find Gail? What are they going to do about Melissa? Will Pat return? What about Mike? I know it's unlikely but I may need to see his body to believe that he's really dead.
