Fear the Walking Dead Season 2 Finale Review: Road Ahead

at .

A family that kills together, stays together.

That was more or less the takeaway from Fear the Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 14 and Fear the Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 15.

Fear the Walking Dead Season 2 improved significantly over its first season. It wasn't perfect by any means, but it was definitely entertaining and provided some much needed character development.

On the outside - Fear the Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 15

The final two episodes aired back to back which concluded both the Rosarita hotel and Colonia story arcs. There were some great moments, but there were also some that disappointed.

Let's start with the positives from these two episodes.

Brandon's story regarding Chris' fate had more holes in it than a slice of swiss cheese. So it was great when Travis picked up on the inconsistencies of their story. Once Brandon confessed to killing Chris, I knew he wasn't getting out of that room alive.

Travis going ape shit and beating Brandon and Derek to death was the highlight of this episode. Travis went full Shane and I loved every second of it. We've all been waiting for Travis to step up and do what is necessary, unfortunately it appears that it took the death of his son to do that.

Cliff Curtis did an amazing job conveying what Travis was feeling in that moment. It was utter, raw emotion and Cliff Curtis played it beautifully.

Travis was already dealing with his decision on letting Chris leave with Brandon and Derek. Now, he has to feel immense guilt due to the outcome of that decision.

I understand what you did...why you did it. And I'll understand when you do it again, cause you will.

Madison

I wouldn't be surprised if turns out that Chris is actually alive. Wouldn't that be an interesting turn of events, now that Travis has taken two lives. Though, why would Brandon lie about killing Chris?

Either way, there's no going back now.

I also always enjoy Strand's quips, and this episode was no different. Such as when Madison went to Strand to tell him about the driver likely being Chris who was killed.

Madison: He was killed.
Strand: That's tragic. And?

I'm not quite sure why Strand opted to stay at the hotel. It will be interesting to see how he is received by Elana and the rest of that group, since they had a falling out with Madison, Travis and Alicia.

There was also the reveal that Alejandro was in fact not immune to the virus. The look of horror on Alejandro's face after being bitten said it all without saying anything.

I'm not immune.

Alejandro

I am slightly disappointed that he wasn't really immune. It would have been great to see where that idea could have been taken going forward. At least Alejandro was able to go out with dignity after admitting he was a fraud the entire time.

He had his moment of redemption in Fear the Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 15 when he climbed aboard the bus at the gates of the Colonia, and removed the blockade to allow the infected to overwhelm Marco and his men.

Nick and Luciana - Fear the Walking Dead

Now, onto the negatives.

During that same infected trap at the Colonia, I was disappointed that we didn't get to see anyone killed. All we saw was the aftermath. When Madison, Travis and Alicia arrived, Marco and his compadres were already shuffling around as infected.

They sure turned fast didn't they?

Even though Marco received his comeuppance, it just wasn't as satisfying as it could have been.

The quasi-cliffhanger that closed out the episode wasn't done particularly well, but it did enough to make me curious as to what will come next.

Thanks to Alejandro, Madison now knows where Nick is heading. However, Nick and Luciana have a new set of problems at the border terminal.

I'm glad that we will be moving on from the hotel and Colonia, although we may revisit the Rosarita at some point next season to check in with Strand.

Fear the Walking Dead Season 2 did tread water at times, but was an improvement over Feat the Walking Dead Season 1, and I look forward to the show returning next year with season three.

Other questions from the finale:

  • Do you believe Brandon and Derek's story about Chris' death or could he still be alive?
  • Who was the group that ambushed Nick and Luciana? They sure don't look like border patrol.
  • Could the man that captured Ofelia be part of the same group that attacked Nick and Luciana?
  • Will Strand remain at the Rosarito or will his friends' actions cause a rift between Strand, Elana and the rest of that group, forcing him to leave as well?
