Supergirl Round Table: Kara Shows Her Dark Side

at .

We saw the villainous side of Kara on Supergirl Season 1 Episode 16 after she was exposed to some of Lord's homemade red kryptonite. She nearly lost her friends, her sister, and her city as a result.

Below, TV Fanatics Jay Ruymann, Jim Garner, Christine Orlando, and Stacy Glanzman discuss our thoughts on Hank's imprisonment, the impending arrival of Silver Banshee, and whether "Falling" was the best episode yet!

What did you think of Kara/Supergirl as the villain?

Jay: I really enjoyed it. Melissa Benoist is so great and it was time that we were shown a deeper level to Kara. Optimism and sweater vests are great and all, but seeing how much anger she really has inside her was very insightful to her.

Jim: I agree with Jay, seeing the deeper levels of Kara was great, I kind of wished she would have kept the nicer wardrobe, but alas, Kara is a sweater-vest loving girl.

Christine: I loved it. She was such fun as a badass and as Jay pointed out, with all she’s been through, it makes sense that their would be some anger issues buried beneath that sweet exterior.

Stacy: I loved it too. It was fun to see the other side of Kara, and as Jay pointed out, Melissa Benoist did a great job showing just how cold and unfiltered she could be.

Is getting fired the catalyst that turns Siobhan into the Silver Banshee? Are you looking forward to that?

Jay: I hope not. That would be so lame. But I am looking forward to seeing her as the Silver Banshee, I'm just not sure how much of a challenge that will be for Kara, since she already hates Siobhan.

Jim: I had no idea she was going to become Silver Banshee. Looking her up, I found she is consider a Superman villain in the comics, which would explain why I didn't associate her with Supergirl. That being said, I am looking forward to seeing what they do with Siobhan and Silver Banshee.

Christine: I have no clue who Silver Banshee is but Siobhan definitely grew on me more than I thought she would. However, I would feel sorry for Winn. It’s bad enough having his father be a villain, talk about lousy luck if his girlfriend turns into one too.

Stacy: I don't know anything about the Silver Banshee or her origin story, so I have no idea how or why the change is going to come. I am excited to see it, though, I agree with Christine that it is going to be tough on Winn.

What will happen to Hank? How long will he be imprisoned inside the DEO?

Jay: This is Hank's "coming out of the closet" story. Once everyone realizes what he was doing for them, I think he'll be free again, though I don't think he'll be in charge of the DEO anymore.

Jim: I'm expecting him to be released to lead the DEO teams under the watchful eye of Senator Miranda Crane (who will be put in charge of the whole thing). While Crane walked away from him last night, she really does have feelings for Hank and I think that's going to be key to Hank finding his place.

Christine: I certainly hope they don’t keep him locked up for too long. I love Hank and this will add yet another dimension to an already great character.

Stacy: I also hope Hank isn't stuck in that cell for too long. I am curious who will take over in the meantime. It could be Senator Crane, but I'm concerned either General Lane or even Lucy could end up in charge.

How much time will James need before he forgives Kara?

Jay: I'm not sure. He finally saw how Kara felt about him, Lucy, and their relationship, so it's going to take some time for him to cope with this darker side to the woman he supposedly loves.

Jim: I think Jay summed it up best. James needs time to fully digest all that he has learned, including that Kara has a dark side. I think he will come around quickly though, it is a superhero show after all.

Christine: Yeah, that moment in the club was a real eye opener for James. I don’t think he ever expected that Kara had a dark side. I think he’ll forgive her and they’ll move on but it may take until the season finale to get there.

Stacy: I think he'll need an episode to dwell on it, but then I think he'll remember the real Kara and come around. He might not be ready to jump into a relationship or anything, but I don't think it will be long before they are friends again.

Is Lord officially being reformed?

Jay: No. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop and Lord to show us who he really is.

Jim: I don't know if he is fully reformed, but seeing that he's now seen both sides of Kara, maybe he will be more willing to work with the DEO and work towards the aliens that are really a threat. Then again, maybe he's just a jerk and will stab the DEO and Kara in the back.

Christine: I think Maxwell Lord is happy to be on whatever side works best for him in the moment. He’s an opportunist first.

Stacy: To me it feels like that's the direction they're heading in, but personally I don't want to see him all of a sudden become a team player. While I do think he'll still operate according to his own best interests, I don't think we'll be seeing him actively trying to hurt Supergirl anymore.

Was this the best episode of the series so far? What was your favorite part?

Jay: I think so, tied only with Supergirl Season 1 Episode 13! I loved seeing a darker side to Kara and to Kara and Alex's relationship. The Danvers sisters are perfect no more. I believe it's very important that they have to move past this unspoken resentment now, especially after Alex killed Astra.

Jim: Given the amount of raw emotion Kara had at the end of the episode, I have to say this is the best episode so far. While we never want to see Supergirl in pain, seeing that pain makes her more human on many levels and will bring Alex and her back together quicker.

Christine: Perhaps. I haven’t really ranked them for myself but this one did have me riveted from beginning to end. It gave almost all of our key players some really emotional moments to play with. I hope the rest of the season is as good as this episode.

Stacy: I think this was the best one yet, and hope the rest are just as great. My favorite part was the scene between Kara and Alex in Kara's apartment. So much emotion and a fantastic acting job by both actresses.

Alex: He likes you, you like him, okay? Rebound relationships, they can work.
Kara: Name one.
Alex: Kim and Kanye.
Kara: I'm embarrassed you even know that.

I'm never using anything from that closet ever again without using surgical gloves.
