Supergirl Season 1 Episode 3 Review: Fight or Flight

at .  Updated at .

Ladies, be honest, do you hate Kara just a little bit for being able to eat all she wants and never get fat?

Superman made his first appearance on Supergirl Season 1 Episode 3 coming to Kara's rescue, but did she need him?

This is her story, and she's determined to prove it.

Kara might be contradicting herself a little bit. On Supergirl Season 1 Episode 2, "Stronger Together," Kara embraced having her friends and family by her side, but now she feels accepting help from her cousin makes her look weak.

I get it, it's not exactly the same. Her friends and sister don't have superpowers or a reputation the world expects her to live up to like Superman does. But, she did say she doesn't want to work alone the way he does, so maybe accepting a little help from time to time wouldn't be the end of the world.

I mean, he did save her life.

Don't get me wrong, this is Kara's story and I absolutely do not want to see Superman rushing in to save the day every time things get a little hairy for her. I'm glad in the end it was her friends and sister who helped her bring down Reactron, something Superman was never able to do.

Alex said it best:

Kara: How am I supposed to really become a hero if Superman has to keep saving me?
Alex: Your story, your story is just starting. And someday you're gonna be the one saving him.

I actually hope that some day we do get to see Supergirl come to his rescue.

I have a confession to make. I have not read the comics, but I have seen most of the comic based movies, and am I the only one that thought of Iron Man when Reactron appeared? I mean, he's got the suit powered by the core in the middle and everything. Plus he's human. Though, if he were Iron Man, he'd be able to fix his own suit.

We got to know Maxwell Lord a little bit better, and it seems pretty likely that he'll be around for awhile. I know he's a character from the comics, but other than that I don't know much about him. I'm curious to see how important he will be in future episodes.

There was another glimpse of Hank's glowy red eyes, but no more hints as to what they mean. He came through for Alex and Kara though, so I am still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I want to believe he's a good guy.

A new wrench has been thrown into the Kara/James/Winn love triangle. While Winn is firmly stuck in the friend zone, things were looking promising for Kara and James until Lucy Lane showed up. How long will she be sticking around?

Poor Winn is trying so hard. How awesome is that new high-tech office he set up for their secret headquarters? He's such a thoughtful guy.

It's a little weird to me that Cat has no clue about Kara considering she's such a smart woman, but she's also so self-absorbed that I guess it really isn't that hard to believe. She does get some of the best lines:

Kara: Supergirl didn't tell you how old she is, how do you know she's a millennial?
Cat: Well, if she's not, then I want the name of her surgeon.

So far, I am really enjoying watching Kara struggle and grow into her new superhero role, and I like all of the support she has surrounding her.

I loved that Kara received some much needed words of encouragement from her cousin. I also loved that he promised not to interfere again. I'd much rather see him support her from afar and let her fight her own battles.

Your turn, what did you think of Superman's appearance?

Don't forget, you can watch Supergirl online any time!

Supergirl Season 1 Episode 4  "How Does She Do It?' will air on Monday, November 16.
