Blindspot Season 1 Episode 5 Review: Split the Law

Holy mother of standoff.
Blindspot Season 1 Episode 5 threw a wealth of curve balls our way as the FBI found themselves going up against the CIA, which resulted in a tense gun wielding scene that had me certain we were about to lose a key player.
The scene was wonderfully acted and directed.
Carter is the perfect villain, and I hope he sticks around for at least the season. He's a pretty dangerous guy, and I think I'd skip town if I got on the wrong side of him.
He knows there's got to be a reason for Jane's tattoos and that's why he's taking these crazy measures to silence her for good, but I just can't shake the feeling that there's plenty more where she came from.
Throughout the hour, Jane had several flashes of herself being taken downstairs by an unknown man and into a room with a lot of kids. It was unpleasant to watch, and I'm all but certain the man in question is Weller's father.
There's got to be a method to the madness of everyone blaming him in the first place, and after seeing him in a few scenes, something isn't quite right.
That's obviously not what Weller's sister thinks and that's why she's trying to bring her family back together. I get that it must be difficult for her. It isn't healthy to have this conflict in your family, but I'll eat crow if their father isn't in on this whole thing.
It feels like you're waiting on me remembering something that I'm never going to remember.
Jane
It was also a little convenient how Jane left dinner so abruptly. She remembered something and for all we know, she could be hiding stuff from Weller that she'll reveal at a later date. Who knows what is going through her mind?
The reveal at the conclusion that Tasha decided to help Carter really was a shock. After the way she spoke to Edgar about not standing up for Jane, I pegged her as team Jane 'til the end, but she went where the money is. We know that she's in serious money troubles after watching Blindspot Season 1 Episode 4, but I didn't expect her to stoop this low.
Tasha: I don't want to eat cold pizza in your loser ass apartment.
Edgar: Fine, stay at home with your cats.
The case of the week was another solid one that managed to easily integrate with the overarching plot and that's always a good thing on these shows. Additionally, they are equally as engaging, which makes it all that bit more worthwhile.
Whatever is going on between Carter and Mayfair, it's clear that Mayfair isn't the bad one. Sure, that doesn't mean she hasn't done anything bad because she probably has. I have a sneaking suspicion she won't last much longer and her replacement will be in cahoots with Carter and it'll make it that bit more easier to get to Jane.
"Split the Law" helped me come to the conclusion that Blindspot is the strongest new show of the fall. I don't come to those conclusions quickly. It's best to give it a few episodes and while there have been some questionable developments, but the brewing war between the CIA and FBI has me in it for the long haul.
Other tidbits from the episode:
- It was really smart of the bad guys to pose as civilians. It worked really well and had us feeling bad for them in the process.
- At the rate the radiation was going up on Patterson's computer, I'm surprised the meter didn't clock in at way over 300.
- There wasn't nearly enough Patterson this week. More please.
