Under the Dome Season 3 Episode 3 Review: Redux

at .  Updated at .

We are what we do.

That phrase certainly echoed through Under the Dome Season 3 Episode 3 as everyone tried to return to their life, stuck inside the dome after having a years worth of memories of a life outside it.

It comes as no shock that there were emotional ramifications. As witnessed in the opener last week, everyone had moved their life on considerably and the dome was just a distant memory. It does feel like we are treading new water with the dome returning, but this show centers around how people survive, and I don't see how they could keep that going if the dome really was gone.

Common Ground - Under the Dome

Christine is just plain weird. I don't get her character. Her dialog is just way off. I don't get whether this is down to her character, or just bad writing. Either way, she's got to be one of the least engaging villains to date, and I hope that Marg Helgenberger's role doesn't extend beyond her initial contracted episodes.

It was interesting, if a little predictable, to have Eva back in the dome. Did anyone else cringe when she and Julia were introduced to each other? I just wanted Julia to like hit her and harness some powers. She was apparently the monarch, after all.

Junior: Excuse me, there are some people in there looking for you.
Christine: Shoot, I was looking for food.

Junior seemed to be the worse affected in all of this, and he finally got to destroy his family home. I don't blame him either. That home is just full of bad memories, and I don't see why anyone would miss it. Heck, even Jim was probably happy to see the back of the place.

I don't quite understand what Jim is up to. There is no way he's just going to roll over and let Christine and Eva mess up the town even more than it already is. Maybe he saw something on the video that could prove to be a weakness for them, but these two are the worst villains. In fact, I don't even have a clue about whether Eva is actually a villain. So there's that.

We also got to see more of Melanie, or whatever alien was using her body. Barbie finally realized that Ben was killed by her and rushed to find Julia. The whole scene with Melanie and Julia fighting looked so fake. Quick cuts don't make up for shady camera work. In a way, I am glad that Melanie appears to be gone, but like I said earlier, Christine is also annoying.

Barbie: You okay?
Julia: What happened?
Barbie: I found Ben's body. His neck was bruised just like yours. He said he saw Melanie in the alternate reality.

One character I liked this week was Barbie. He is trying his best to do what he can to help everyone and has now lost his father and sister. He may have had a strained relationship with each of them, but it must still be a difficult time for him.

The show is following a similar trajectory to previous seasons, in that it has a solid opener followed by sub par fare. If I'm being honest, I'm being generous by calling it sub par. Given that the ratings posted series lows across the board last week, don't expect them to climb when we are back to putting up with the melodrama under this dome.
