Scorpion Season 1 Episode 13 Review: Kill Screen

If you ever want to be a video game designer, you should pay really close attention to the blueprints of warehouses.

In Scorpion Season 1 Episode 13, Ralph was grabbed by federal agents for the first time. Aww, they grow up so fast, don't they? It is great to see Ralph take more of a focus in the episode. However, it would have been nice if it happened without Ralph being brought in for questioning.

Team Scorpion could have had a case that involved the game, Overt Target, and when Ralph stops by the garage before or after school, he could see the team trying to figure out the game or hear them mentioning it, thus prompting Ralph to jump in and try to help.

Yes, by having Ralph grabbed by federal agents, there is a parallel between Walter and Ralph, but it's not necessary. There is not any change in Ralph after this. All this incident does is make Drew question Ralph hanging out with Team Scorpion. It would have been better if Ralph had some sort of reaction to all of this. The closest was when Ralph stated he did not know that encryption or the dark websites were illegal.

Of course, even though Ralph is brought in for questioning. there aren't any lasting effects. It's just the threat that Ralph could go to jail. There is never any follow up. It would have been more threatening if Cabe had to do some more convincing not to take Ralph in the middle of the episode or something. The Department of Justice is not really a part of the case. They never go after Team Scorpion for working their case behind their back.

All in all, this case is a let down. The Ralph connection gives the illusion of it being much more important or dire than a normal case, and yet, it's not. The case if it weren't tied to Ralph, it could have been an alright case. There are some decent twists and turns, and it is nice when someone else joins the case, temporarily – Nate.

Heard you held up like a champ. Better than my first arrest...that was inappropriate.

Sylvester

There are not a lot of personal storylines in this episode, which is a shame. There's a tiny one where a bit of Sylvester's past is revealed, but it is a really small moment. Walter gets jumpy at times, but Toby only reminds him that mentoring Ralph involves more than teaching him to have fun. Walter does not do anything with Toby's insight other than apologize to Paige and Drew.

What would have fit in nicely is a Cabe conversation with either Walter, Paige, or Ralph. As Walter points out, the only reason he wasn't arrested way back when is because of Cabe. There could have been a moment where Cabe talks to Ralph about how he should be more careful, or Cabe could explain the legality/illegality of encryption.

Cabe could have comforted Paige or Drew, or he could have given tips to Walter about how to best be there for Ralph to make sure he stays on the right side of the law. Ralph didn't actually break any laws, but with his intelligence, he could easily start looking for challenges in illegal places.

Just a pretty cool project, building a rocketship. What little boy doesn't dream of that?
