Damn. That was a long list of suspects!
Forever Season 1 Episode 12 had our beloved characters investigate the untimely death of a hedge funder named Jason.
Did anyone really think he just happened to jump into the river and die? The episode would have been over before it began if that was the case!
We got to witness so many emotional moments this week you could easily lose count of them. I'll get to them throughout this review!
Back to poor Jason; the man who went from rags to riches after impressing Oliver. It was pretty obvious Oliver was to blame for the death. He was the boss of the company, he had to know what was going on behind closed doors.
The office Jason worked in appeared to be a high pressure environment. It wouldn't have been out of the realm of possibility that Jason could have killed himself. Henry's stand in medical examiner would agree. I suppose it's lucky that Henry returned to work after his three week absence when he did, or else a killer would have been walking free.
Val could have easily done the deed. The guy never even waited until the funeral to upgrade the office. He was a douche bag. He wasn't a first class douche bag; that award goes to Oliver. Every word the man spouted was about how everything he does is so good. He boasted about EVERYTHING. He was deluded and calm about everything. It was quite fun to watch. Jo couldn't stand him. She had some of the best Forever Quotes of the night.
Hi val, remember me? I'm not here to redecorate.Jo
It just so happened that Jason was the kid of one of Abe's army buddies. Yes, Abe was in the army! The flashbacks were really exciting as we got to see a rebellious Abe and how it affected Henry and Abigail. This is the first time we've witnessed these two lovebirds at each others throat. It showed us Abe had a relatively normal upbringing given the circumstances.
Dad, please. I'm going to report for duty. This is my decision.Abe
Abe investigating the death was comical as always. All of the scenes with he and Jerry made me laugh out loud. The funniest has got to be on the boat when he says something about the moisture and the guy believed him. Money sure makes these 'wolves' ditzy.
Well, if it isn't Abe the knave.Jerry
Melanie was a stupid girl. Who would actually confess to a murder they didn't commit, for $20 million and not have the freedom to spend it? The girl was adamant she killed Jason, but Jo was far too smart and knew the way these peoples minds worked.
Jo saved Henry's life – twice! The woman understands what Henry is going through because she went through the same thing when she killed someone. She is a really good friend. She could have ratted him out to Joanna, but she chose to talk to him instead. These two have come a long way and it would be stupid to let anything get between their relationship. The final scene appeared to be setting up a kiss between the two of them, but Jo's cell phone interrupted them. Was it just me who got that vibe?
Henry: Have you come to tell me you no longer want to work with me in the field?
Jo: No, Henry but if we’re gonna do that you need.
Henry: ...To be less careless.
Jo: Yes, absolutely, but that’s not what I came here to say. Henry, you and I - we’re not so different. We’re both a little guarded. A little screwed up. Maybe a lot screwed up. and we both have killed people. It makes you feel like you have to make up for it somehow and we have to solve every case. Maybe throw yourself in front of a few cars to make sure that bad guy doesn’t get away, but it doesn’t work - none of it.
Henry: I didn’t have to kill him. I shouldn’t have but I did and that's something I’m going to have to live with.
Jo: Forever. Me to. Can I tell you something Henry? for me, you make that a little easier. I just, I want to be able to do the same for you.
"The Wolves of Deep Brooklyn" was an excellent episode. The writing, acting and even the editing were all on top form. Minus Adam, the show can still put out good episodes. I do wonder when we will see Adam again in the big apple. Forever has an avid following and the fans have already begun efforts to ensure the show gets a well deserved second season renewal. If you want to see more episodes beyond the current order, you should jump on the bandwagon and join the letter writing campaign currently going on. Look out for our first roundtable later this week.
Other bits from the episode:
- The other medical examiner was so dull in comparison to Henry. I can't imagine what the show would be like without Henry.
- The scene in which Henry was trying to "investigate" the death of the rat was hilarious.
- The guest roles were all very well acted and kept me glued to the screen.
- Joanna truly likes Henry. It was nice that she was checking with Jo that he was OK.
