Jan Hooks, Saturday Night Live Alum, Dies at 57

Jan Hooks, a beloved cast member on Saturday Night Live from 1986-1991, died this morning in New York City. She was 57 years old.

The exact cause of death is unknown at this time, but multiple sources confirm Hooks had been battling a serious illness.

Hooks is best remembered for being one half of the Sweeney Sisters. She also perfected impressions of Kathie Lee Gifford, Tammy Faye Bakker and Sinead O’Connor while starring opposite such SNL alums as Chris Farley, Adam Sandler and Chris Rock.

Upon leaving Saturday Night Live, Hooks landed a role on Designing Women. She was also nominated for a 1998 Emmy Award for recurring her role on 3rd Rock from the Sun.

Most recently, Hooks appeared on 30 Rock as Verna, the mother of Jenna Maroney. She also voiced Manjula Nahasapeemapetilon on The Simpsons.
