The Carrie Diaries Review: Staying Detached

at .  Updated at .

Anyone who has ever seen the opening credits of Sex and the City would recognize Carrie Bradshaw and her famous pink tutu.

As if the opening song in The Carrie Diaries Season 2 Episode 3 wasn't enough, seeing younger Carrie this item in her suitcase made me totally nostalgic!

Anyway, no time to get lost in memories. Larissa's back and summer's over. Time to face reality.

Walt and Bennet

Larissa's back in the states and she's all about her new Zen state of mind. Unfortunately, this new Zen state is not meshing with Samantha's bold, loud, and grab em by the balls personality.

Well, actually, they're both loud just in entirely different ways. I find that in life, and TV, people with similar personalities tend to clash when they first meet. It's kind of like going head to head with yourself. But they finally found something in common: they are both easily distracted and entertained!

So it's the end of summer and everyone's procrastinating. Maggie doesn't want to deal with college applications. Carrie is afraid to see Sebastian. Walt is dreading going back into the closet until he's ready to come out to his parents. They even prefer the crime-ridden streets of New York City to sleepy Castlebury.

Meanwhile, Sebastian is still determined to win Carrie back, even enlisting Dorrit's help. As if his love life isn't complicated enough, we were introduced to the cougar: Molly Sims. Gorgeous and bored, she's looking for a little fun from the boy with the gorgeous smile and sparkly eyes.

You have some nerve standing there with your sparkly bedroom eyes and your cute floppy hair.

Carrie [to Sebastian]

Can we pause and talk about that kiss? Holy hell that was hot!

I thought Carrie was about to lose her virginity right there on that desk. Talk about pent up sexual tension and frustrations. He clearly still loves her and she feels the same. Can they work it out? Or will Carrie's worries get in the way? It's entirely possible that baby sister Dorrit gives the best advice of all.

Carrie: I have a lot going on.
Dorrit: Yeah in your head. Get out of it and just go after what you want. That’s what I do.

It appears for now that Sebastian and Carrie just aren't meant to be. I'm sorry but after that steamy kiss, I just don't buy it. I know he hurt her and ruined her trust, but I think these two will find their way back to each other. In the meantime, Sebastian is distracting himself in a very Nate Archibald, Gossip Girl season 2 sort of way...with an older, experience woman.

So what do you think about Tom's return to the city? How is Walt going to manage things at school? Will Larissa and Samantha find common ground?

Carrie

I’m telling you, I love New York but it is one giant crime scene.
