Castle Review: The Billionaire's Kiss

by at . Comments

Well, let’s talk about that tension.

Castle aired "The Squab and the Quail" this week, an episode that centered on the attempted murder of a billionaire of whom Castle is jealous and who has quite the interest in a certain beautiful detective.

ABC made the right decision by rearranging “The Squab and the Quail” with “Still,” the installment originally intended to air this week. “Still” features an explosive situation, and in light of the recent tragic events in Boston, ABC flip-flopped the episodes. So there is a slight chance that background pieces between our favorite writer/detective duo could be out of order. We'll find out next Monday.

Ryan and Castle Scene

Watch What You Eat. The weekly murder mystery involved billionaire Eric Vaughn. There was an attempt to both poison and shoot him. Good thing the gorgeous Kate Beckett was on the scene to protect him.

This brought out the jealous side in Castle and I can’t say that I blame him. First, he hit on Kate, then he tried to kiss her. Boy better back up! I don’t really care about his accent or his stunning smile, he is no Richard Castle and Beckett knows that.

Although...there was a slight hesitation from Beckett when Vaughn questioned her relationship, as well as during the kiss. Beckett tried to ask the serious question to her man at the end of the hour. Where is this going? Doesn’t look like she got the answer she wanted.

Where is this relationship going? Things are serious. They spend the night with each other all the time. Is marriage in the cards for Caskett? Should it be?

Another theme that went throughout this installment was the idea that Castle takes advantage of Beckett. Does he? Sure, the man likes his video games, but I still wouldn't make such a classification. I mean, really, didn’t Beckett take advantage of his feelings for quite some time before they got together? Just saying.

Side Notes:

  • So did we know that Beckett is the youngest female detective in NYPD history? That’s what I’m talking about girl!
  • It’s always nice to see TV Veteran Ioan Gruffudd on our screen, especially since Ringer has gone off the air.
  • This episode was the first in a while where we saw all of the cast! What a welcome change!
  • How much fun are the boys when they are together?

Overall, a fun episode to lead us into the last few of the season. There were some great Castle quotes - especially from Espo. What did you think, TV Fanatics? Did you enjoy “The Squab and the Quail?"

Sound off in the comments and don’t forget to check back for the Castle Round Table later in the week.

@gardono Wow, I sure didn't have that takeaway from "Limey". The guy was on his way to the airport and had time for a quick drink. She was feeling lonely and blue over how things were(n't) going with Rick and called to take him up on the drink invite. I never in a million years assumed she'd slept with the guy and frankly would be shocked if she had. Not that he wasn't gorgeous, but sometimes a drink is just a drink!

Recent comments in TV Guide from SK indicate that she will be presented with job opportunity in final ep to work as investigator for federal agency. This will cause new tension because they would not be able to work together any longer. If true that makes no sense, as the success of the show hinges on keeping the core characters together in the same work environment. If writers take this path, the show will lose majority of fans for sure.
It appears that the writers are moving towards a breakup. Big mistake!!!

Agree with all the comments about how odd the behavior of both was in this episode. Given that during the first half of this season everything was moving forward for them, the show theme itself presents as just stupid. Gates forcing the issue with Beckett to protect him was not realistic. All of sudden, there is this crazy tension between them. This episode reminds me of Limey ep from season 4. After waiting 4 seasons to bring them together, I expected Beckett to be direct about her feelings for Castle right after start of season 5. The beginning 4 ep's showed that the relationship was moving forward and they seemed fine. Most fans are tired of this fake tension and how the writers present Castle as silly and immature after all this time. Just a pathetic storyline IMO. the trouble comes from the fact that "still" was commissioned after everything else…
but since the plot till the finale was already set and it was not possible to add it after the finale…
so they made a "filler" that was to be inserted between "fast & furriest" and "squab & quail"…
however boston occurred so they swapped "squab" and "still"…
and now everybody is lost in the maze of continuity…
do not listen to the rumors, they are probably confusing shows...

I really don't understand where this episode idea came from especially since it was supposed to be aired after 'Still'. From all the spoilers, Still is supposed to be a dream come true episode for all the Caskett shippers. So where did all these ridiculous doubts come from? And if it's the intention to break them up this season, that is just stupid. Seems like Moonlighting curse to me. You build them up for 4 seasons, and then keep them together just for one! Most of the fans of the show have been really invested in their relationship and they will lose a lot of viewers if they break up!

Boy this episode really left a nasty taste in my mouth. Next to the "Limey" episode, these 2 ep's really show Beckett to be kind of slutty. Lol maybe she is like Nikki Heat! Remember that Limey ep? It started with here & Lanie discussing telling Castle how she felt about him & then by the end she goes & has a drink & lets face it slept with the Scotland Yard officer. Why else would she suddenly need to have a drink with a dude she just met? So what, everytime Castle does something that ticks her off she flirts or sleeps with someone? Not the healthiest of relationships me thinks. I'm going to try to forget all about this one. But seeing as I still can't forget about the Limey that might be kind of hard!

Wow....I'm thinking different. I don't think Kate is ready for Castle to ask her to marry him (even though Martha and Alexis seem to be pushing for that). Nor do I think Castle is ready to ask Kate to marry him. I do think it's time for him to ask her to move into the loft. Hell, she spends enough time there. Even in the most stable and happy relationships, let a cute, rich, smart, single, charming man with an accent show an interest and I don't know many women (or men for that matter) who wouldn't be tempted. So can we cut both Castle and Kate some slack. I also think the switching of this episode with "Still" might be the best not-planned switch ever done. It seems like a good bridge between "The Fast and the Furriest" and "Still".

Not my favorite ep. They seem to not communicate in ways that real life would demand, but that's TV for you. However, Still (which I've already watched) more than makes up for this one. I think it works better in this order to be honest. You guys are going to LOVE this next ep, but that's all I'll say about it.

I am telling you where does the show go if they break-up. He was only there because he loved her in the end of season 4. So they need to ask Beckett is she really wanting castle or not because I think the ball is in her court. She needs to say if this is going forward or not.

Kate was out of line here. No matter what Castle says or does it makes her doubt him. When he told her he loved her she lied about remembering it. The next time she yelled at him for withholding info about her moms case. The only time she's ever wanted him is when he's told her he's thru then she always decides to reel him back in. He always takes her back no matter what. How can she doubt he's in it? It took her 4 years to get with Castle but in minutes she's drinking champagne and kissing Vaughn. (He didnt just kiss her, she closed her eyes and leaned in) I thought it was bizarre. Kate needs to decide if she actually loves Castle. The guy couldn't do any more for her than he's already done.
