Castle Review: Here's to 100 More!

at . Comments

What a celebration!

"The Lives of Others” marked two events: Castle’s birthday and, even more importantly, the 100th episode of our favorite Monday night series. Let’s waste no more time and let's talk Castle, shall we?

A Bored Castle

Rear Window Castle is stuck in his apartment after messing up his knee skiing with Beckett. Strapped with boredom, he resorts to using binoculars and peeking in on his neighbors. After swearing that he witnessed a murder in the apartment across the alley, Castle goes on to drive everyone crazy. Alexis, Beckett, Ryan and Espo are all dragged into Castle’s antics.

Little did we know that Beckett had planned the most elaborate and best birthday ever for her man. Seriously, that was pretty much amazing. With the help of Martha and her acting students, Alexis and the binoculars, Ryan and Espo checking in on the case, even Gates working her way in...everything was perfect. Richard Castle is one lucky man.

An Affair To Kill On the real murder case the gang was working, an IRS agent is found dead after being reviewed on security footage. A wife was killed by her husband but he had it staged to cover up the affair he was having. Thanks to Castle’s vivid imagination, he even helped solve the case from his wheelchair.

Side Notes

  • How gorgeous did Kate look in that black dress? Seriously, stunning.
  • Castle wanting to be Charlie and the boys be his angels was hilarious. Especially after Ryan and Espo struck a pose. Priceless.
  • Welcome back, Alexis! It’s good to see you normal and functioning after your kidnapping adventure.
  • Where was Lanie at this fabulous party?

Deep into Season 5, Castle is still super entertaining and just as much fun, if not more, than it was in the beginning. This is not an easy task. Over the past one hundred episodes, we have witnessed shakeups in the office, relationships and breakups, death, kidnappings and the central couple coming together.

Most would think that this would be a recipe for disaster. But it hasn’t been at all. Bringing Castle and Beckett together has brought the series in a new direction. Although there have been ups and downs throughout the seasons, the series has hit a high mark, just in time to celebrate it’s 100th episode.

So now that we have hit the impressive 100 episode milestone, what do you think? Was “The Lives of Others” everything you expected for such a landmark hour? Sound off in the comments and let us know.

Also, take a look back at previous episodes and watch the build up to where we are now. Check out some pretty awesome Castle quotes from the hour and don’t forget to check back in a couple days for the weekly Castle Round Table. Until April 15, TV Fanatics...

I generally comment only when I have a lot to say, but this TERRIFIC episode spoke for itself---and what it didn't say, you commenters said for it. If it was intended to April Fool us, it worked for me! I did NOT see that ending coming! My only question is this: Does Gates now know that Castle and Beckett are an item, or does she think this was all done in the spirit of an office party?

Excellent show. Did I hear the word Love come from Beckett?

Alana and Joyeful? THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!! Both of you said/explained it perfectly and, if you don't mind, I maybe be quoting you to others. :D Wonderful episode! Congratulations to cast, crew, and the grat creator, Marlowe! To ABC, we need *at leat* 100 more episodes of "Castle"!

I loved this episode! Even though I had envisioned an April Fools template, it fooled me anyway! The show just continues to get better and better and more enjoyable to me week to week. I love Caskett, and when they are kissy/feely it only makes me happier! Terrific stuff!

Absolutely superb episode, possibly the best Castle ever. I had forgotten the date, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, which means the writers caught a whole bunch of us. So well cast and so well performed, I'm looking forward to at least another hundred...

Looking at the clip again, non-reaction was definitely too weak. He had a reaction to the negative before recovering himself. However, my opinion still is that that went too far. Not to sound callous but if it had been anybody other then Kate, Martha, and Alexis it would have been fine. It also speaks to my wanting to see Kate on the defensive/reactive once in awhile. I never felt that the whole "she lied to him about remembering" thing got resolved properly, even though they got together. She didn't really formally apologize for that (although it could have been done off screen). We saw a bit of it when Castle was locked up wrongly, but I want to see a bit more of it. And I'm sure Stana could do it, she's a very capable actress.

LOVED this episode!!!! I only started watching Castle in January and I’m hooked. Like Castle, I was completely in the dark until the lights turned on. Both Beckett and Castle looked stunning! The whole cast is perfect.
@Alana: I agree about Castle’s reaction - Fillion’s acting was excellent.

@Alana - that's exactly what I was trying to say, you just said it SO much better LOL. I completely agree.

One of the best episodes ever. Completely fooled just like Castle. To go to this much planning for a birthday shows how much Castle is loved. Love this show!

Just writing to say that was an AMAZING Castle episode - and Lanie was at the party! She's right behind Beckett when the lights come up and If you can drag yourself away from Caskett when they are making out you see Esplanie making out too! lol
