Veronica Mars Movie: It's a Go!

by at .  Updated at .

Well, that was fast. And incredibly awesome.

Less than 11 hours after Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell asked fans to donate to Kickstarter in order to raise $2 million for a Veronica Mars movie to be filmed this summer, the goal was reached... and then some!

“My mind is blown," Thomas tells EW. "I’ve been fantasizing about this taking big and had to tell myself, ‘Stop it, Rob, you’re being silly. You’re setting yourself up for disappointment. And now today has exceeded the wildest pipe dream I let myself entertain. Holy cow. We better make a good movie. These amazing fans have stepped up. We better deliver.”

Adds Veronica herself:

“I knew Veronica Mars fans were cool, but I had no idea they could rally with such power. They are unstoppable — just like Veronica. I will have a permanent blush on my face, feeling so lucky to be associated with this entire thing."

With the $2 million in the bag, Warner Bros. Digital Distribution will now fulfill its commitment to produce the film, which will be based on the beloved UPN series that went off the air in 2007.

It will be released in 2007 and, with nothing known about the returning players or plot, allow us to simply say: it better star Max Greenfield as Leo!

aww man this is going to be awesome!!! I wish all my favorite canceled tv shows had a movie... lol but probably not going to happen. either way this is great news, the cast and creators of the show definitely deserve it and the fans will absolutely love whatever they do.

@AsianFanoFustv, I agree with you. I am still waiting on Buffy, Gilmore Girls and Ugly Betty (which will probably never happen) and I'd like some closure on Chuck, see Sarah get her memory back or something. And I too liked Joan of Arcadia!

Yes, now Jason Dohring has to come back too so we can get closure!

Now I hope more cancelled TV series would follow suit. Many of the shows have no proper ending. A very good example is The 4400s.

"It will be released in 2007"....ummmm, wasn't it cancelled in 2007. How can they release a movie in 2007 that just got funding to be filmed in 2013. HA! I read on another site that they are aiming for a 2014 release in limited theaters before releasing the movie on I-tunes, Netflix, and VDoc.
