The Mentalist Review: The Alien Lizard Vibe

at . Comments

That nurse wasn't kidding. Agent Kirkland definitely has an alien lizard vibe to him. It's as if we spent "Behind the Red Curtain" waiting for him to rip off his mask and show what he was hiding underneath.

Rigsby is Thrilled

Though Jane has obviously had his suspicions of Kirkland, does he now know he's an agent of Red John? And, if so, can he convince Lisbon?

Kirkland injecting the IV almost made me feel sorry for Jason. The poor guy just woke up from a coma to remember being shot by Lorelei and then had his life snuffed out a moment later. He was still so weak and helpless from his injuries there was nothing he could have done to stop it.

Lisbon was the one who confused me in all of this. She seemed more than happy to hand their one link to Red John over to Kirkland. Was she that worried about her career? Was she actually not suspicious of the creepy federal agent? I was at a loss to the reasoning behind her apparent naivete.

But the best part of the entire episode was Jane enlisting LaRoche to help uncover the scheme of the nonexistent investor. It was awesome watching these two complex, quirky characters work together as Jane cajoled him in this The Mentalist quote

Jane: You spend your days chasing paperclip thieves. When do you ever get the chance to nail a killer? | permalink

If LaRoche isn't Red John (and I hope he's not), I'd love to see him help Patrick take him down and I beg the writers to give us more of these two in the future.

Jane seemed right at home at the theater. I'd guess that actors are a bit similar to carnie folk. They're all putting on some sort of a show.

Jane sitting in the back of the theater listening to Deandra sing was just so him. Lisbon walked right by him and never saw him there.

Deandra's story was downright heartbreaking. That her colleagues gossiped about her drinking while she was really suffering with multiple sclerosis was depressing. That she was reunited with her biological daughter only to have her permanently torn away over a silly financial scheme was tragic.

Lastly, the beautiful Grace Van Pelt was back at the CBI and it's been far too long. Now the question becomes: will Rigsby find the guts to make a play for her?

Were you surprised Kirkland took out Jason? Is Lisbon being naive and do you think Jane now knows that Kirkland works for Red John?

@ neha,
As I see it, Jane has the right to any and all feelings. But, he lost the right to expect help when he walked out on his team and ended contact with them. Relationships are two way. And, when he was ready for help, he then asked, and he was not refused. Lisbon helped him, and the rest of the team agreed to help Lisbon help him. Jane was only as much alone as he wanted to be. When he wanted help he was given it.

@KM I thought Lisbon found out pretty fast, didn't remember exactly how but it seemed like she found out before he was bailed out, the team wanted her to bail him and she wouldn't, and I had the impression he was only in jail overnight, may be wrong on that. At any rate, he assumed it was Teresa, so he would have had to figure she knew pretty fast. True, Jane didn't call her, I guess didn't call anyone. Yes Lisbon definitely would have bailed him, helped if he'd asked. Yes he wanted to work alone to bait RJ.

ha ha i started off the last comment wanting to talk about lisbon, jeez patric jane, you get me everytime! anyhow, Lisbon was so broken in that episode, i cant help but imagine that she was afraid(and a little egoistic) that if she bails him out(AGAIN), she would say something and reveal feeling that she didnot want to at the time. I totally admire her character, how she didnt let her feelings get in the way of her pride and just went to the one place she felt was safe, the church!

there was so much in that season 4 finale, its amazing! i must have watched it atleast 5 times and i still find something new. I agree that jane expected Lisbon to bail him out, and was definitely disappointed that she didnt, but that was the point (i think) when his suspicion of lorelai working for RJ was almost confirmed. I believe he had his doubts about who she was when she showed up at the motel, i dont think he believed her when she said there was a connection. I mean she just found out he was a con man and they she saw him get chased out by a man twice his size. any normal girl would have run away, jane knows that. at the same time though, he was thrilled to sleep with her, he is a man after all!

Indeed, I love how we can all see things differently. I really appreciate the discussion. I think we get a clearer picture when we hear how we individually see scenes. It makes the show so much more enjoyable. And, it sharpens our observational skills. @ creamy, thanks for the video.

Oh, how I wish she'd punch him again! Hard. On the nose. Repeatedly. And he'd be happy to be of service again. Bastard. I'm off to bed! Can't wait to see the episode tomorrow morning before the day starts! Good night everyone! :D

@Entwife, -He wanted aloneness. He sought it out. Aloneness he generated by both his physical departure and ceasing to communicate. You are presuming that he believed that Lisbon was immediately notified. And, the audience knows she was not, she was told at a homicide crime scene through small talk with her friend. Jane had a phone call when arrested and we have no evidence that he called her. Had he called it would be a different story. Nor was Lisbon in the position to drop everything and jump on a plane to bail him after learning of his arrest. Lorelei was right there in Vegas and was given the information and money she needed to do Red John's bidding. Jane was alone by his own choice. No-one failed him. He played the people who love him most. He walked away.

sweet video, @creamy, thanks! Have to go with the consensus that a Lisbon/Jane blow-up is in the offing. hopefully it will clear the air and make for some great reconciliation. and only lasts a short time! agree @neha that would be a great episode!

until the fallout let's remember the good old days ;)

you know what? i am almost looking forward to the fallout between the two. this will mean they actually care enough to fight over it and lisbon can stop taking shit from jane. I feel like if they argue and shout a little the repressed feeling will ooze out. what a great episode that would be!
