The Mentalist Review: The Alien Lizard Vibe

at . Comments

That nurse wasn't kidding. Agent Kirkland definitely has an alien lizard vibe to him. It's as if we spent "Behind the Red Curtain" waiting for him to rip off his mask and show what he was hiding underneath.

Rigsby is Thrilled

Though Jane has obviously had his suspicions of Kirkland, does he now know he's an agent of Red John? And, if so, can he convince Lisbon?

Kirkland injecting the IV almost made me feel sorry for Jason. The poor guy just woke up from a coma to remember being shot by Lorelei and then had his life snuffed out a moment later. He was still so weak and helpless from his injuries there was nothing he could have done to stop it.

Lisbon was the one who confused me in all of this. She seemed more than happy to hand their one link to Red John over to Kirkland. Was she that worried about her career? Was she actually not suspicious of the creepy federal agent? I was at a loss to the reasoning behind her apparent naivete.

But the best part of the entire episode was Jane enlisting LaRoche to help uncover the scheme of the nonexistent investor. It was awesome watching these two complex, quirky characters work together as Jane cajoled him in this The Mentalist quote

Jane: You spend your days chasing paperclip thieves. When do you ever get the chance to nail a killer? | permalink

If LaRoche isn't Red John (and I hope he's not), I'd love to see him help Patrick take him down and I beg the writers to give us more of these two in the future.

Jane seemed right at home at the theater. I'd guess that actors are a bit similar to carnie folk. They're all putting on some sort of a show.

Jane sitting in the back of the theater listening to Deandra sing was just so him. Lisbon walked right by him and never saw him there.

Deandra's story was downright heartbreaking. That her colleagues gossiped about her drinking while she was really suffering with multiple sclerosis was depressing. That she was reunited with her biological daughter only to have her permanently torn away over a silly financial scheme was tragic.

Lastly, the beautiful Grace Van Pelt was back at the CBI and it's been far too long. Now the question becomes: will Rigsby find the guts to make a play for her?

Were you surprised Kirkland took out Jason? Is Lisbon being naive and do you think Jane now knows that Kirkland works for Red John?

The only unambiguous thing we can take from Jane's questioning the bailiff at his outtake is that the person that comes to Jane's mind when he is in trouble is Lisbon. Six months of no contact did not rid him of believing she would support and care about him. And, he was right. When he made contact with her in the episode, she helped him. I can accept feelings of disappointment or hurt being felt by Jane, but we don't have any actual evidence to support it. But, our saying how he felt in the absence of supporting admissions from him, is us portraying our feelings upon his character. That is not a bad thing. I don't think so. Still, it colors how we interpret what we see.

Me too, @ Entwife.

@ Watcher,
He was as alone as he wanted. When he wanted help he went and found Lisbon. And she turned to him. She helped him. He was an island only in his mind. Lisbon never left him, soon as he reached out, he found her there waiting.

wow, really enjoyed that promo @KM!

@KM- I agree with you that nobody failed Jane - He walked away voluntarily and refused all contact and offers of help. I don't believe he resented Lisbon for not bailing him out. However, he seemed so excited and happy when he was getting bailed out and automatically assumed that Lisbon was the one to do it. It would be perfectly natural for him to then feel disappointed and let down when Lorelei told him it was her. Not angry at Lisbon- he would not actually hold it against her, but sad and perhaps hurt- even if he knows it isn't her fault. And I think it once again emphasized to him and drove home the point that, even though it was his own choice, he is now really alone with nobody to turn to.

"UPDATE #CBSEyeAlert live #Masters golf 2day #AmazingRace #GoodWife #Mentalist start Will b delayed EAST/CENTRAL Zones ONLY stand by 4update" I know this means DVR adjustments for some of us.

@ Entwife, -I think his incarceration was short, 24 hrs or less. Lisbon found out at the homicide scene. It was her coroner friend. As an officer she was not given a curtesy notification, or she had not seen it. We don't know the time frame between the actual arrest and her friend mentioning it. And, yes she learned it before he was bailed out. But we don't know how soon after he was bailed out from when she learned of his arrest. I'm inclined to think his thinking it was Lisbon that bailed him out, is speaking to his trust in her affection for him; he puts her through a lot and she stands with him. It reflects to the fact that Lisbon is the person who comes to mind. She's the first person he thinks of. She's the person he counts on the most. Teresa Lisbon is Jane's natural go to. It shows that in his head she was still with him, in his thoughts. That she was not shut out from his heart, only his life at that moment..

totally agree @KM, I know that sometimes we need to do things a certain way and look at the bigger picture, but jane could have atleast sent lisbon some sort of a message that he was ok. not phone or email, but he is a creative guy, i am sure there was some way he could have let her know. I know hes damaged but does he have to be an ass? its probably why the works so well though
