The Mentalist Review: The Alien Lizard Vibe

at . Comments

That nurse wasn't kidding. Agent Kirkland definitely has an alien lizard vibe to him. It's as if we spent "Behind the Red Curtain" waiting for him to rip off his mask and show what he was hiding underneath.

Rigsby is Thrilled

Though Jane has obviously had his suspicions of Kirkland, does he now know he's an agent of Red John? And, if so, can he convince Lisbon?

Kirkland injecting the IV almost made me feel sorry for Jason. The poor guy just woke up from a coma to remember being shot by Lorelei and then had his life snuffed out a moment later. He was still so weak and helpless from his injuries there was nothing he could have done to stop it.

Lisbon was the one who confused me in all of this. She seemed more than happy to hand their one link to Red John over to Kirkland. Was she that worried about her career? Was she actually not suspicious of the creepy federal agent? I was at a loss to the reasoning behind her apparent naivete.

But the best part of the entire episode was Jane enlisting LaRoche to help uncover the scheme of the nonexistent investor. It was awesome watching these two complex, quirky characters work together as Jane cajoled him in this The Mentalist quote

Jane: You spend your days chasing paperclip thieves. When do you ever get the chance to nail a killer? | permalink

If LaRoche isn't Red John (and I hope he's not), I'd love to see him help Patrick take him down and I beg the writers to give us more of these two in the future.

Jane seemed right at home at the theater. I'd guess that actors are a bit similar to carnie folk. They're all putting on some sort of a show.

Jane sitting in the back of the theater listening to Deandra sing was just so him. Lisbon walked right by him and never saw him there.

Deandra's story was downright heartbreaking. That her colleagues gossiped about her drinking while she was really suffering with multiple sclerosis was depressing. That she was reunited with her biological daughter only to have her permanently torn away over a silly financial scheme was tragic.

Lastly, the beautiful Grace Van Pelt was back at the CBI and it's been far too long. Now the question becomes: will Rigsby find the guts to make a play for her?

Were you surprised Kirkland took out Jason? Is Lisbon being naive and do you think Jane now knows that Kirkland works for Red John?

hey. when patrick had sex with lorelei, did he rip her clothes off? his own clothes off? did she undress him? undress herself? see what a few glasses of arneis can unleash?

There seems to be unanimous agreement, among those posting, that Jane and Lisbon are destined to be together. I find that pretty interesting. I wonder how many others say nay. And I wonder if all the ayes would have said the same at the beginning of the season.

I think Jane knows Lisbon is the one who will replace Angela. The one who will challenge him and keep him on the right track but will not try to change who he is. I think that's why he listens to her most of the time. He knows she has his best intrest at heart. Otherwise he would just munipulate her like he does eveyone else.

Interesting angle @ani. It makes sense to me.

Hi guys, Good conversation! You all got me thinking about Jane and Lisbon. Which as you know I don't do much. I don't think Jane is concerned about Red John knowing how he feels about Lisbon and we already know Red John knows. I think Jane does not want Lisbon to know how needy he really is. He wants to stay appearing strong to her. Plus he is arrogant and he always wants to show up as the man. He can show his face with those other women because he's not invested with them and they seem to catch him with his guard down. Now I know he cares deeply for Lisbon and I think he knows Lisbon would be a big distraction. I think Lisbon sees right through him and Jane knows that. I think at some point he will show Lisbon his pain and let her comfort him. He is just not readt to do that keep for fear of appearing weak.

agree with katempw and estatica that rj already sees lisbon as a potential target. anytime he wants to destroy patrick, he can kill lisbon and leave a nice little note. imagine going through that twice. i think patrick would kill himself. re: erica. she was lots of fun for patrick. he doesn't have that much fun with other people. well, maybe at their expense. he tries but he's disapproved of. erica is as playful as he is. she's beautiful and succulent and she digs him. i'd love her to come back and have her way with him. lisbon would go crazy and confront him. what a great episode that would be.

So if they are in a long game (7 seasons), I can see Lisbon or Jane getting with someone else. But if it's a short game (six), is there really enough time for that before a Lisbon-Jane coupling without everything seeming ridiculously rushed -- given that they only address the relationship (ambiguously) in around 5 episodes per season and the 'progress' in their relationship is glacially slow? This of course assumes the writers choose the Jane-Lisbon coupling path at all. I am beginning to think they almost must at this point. Too many indications - @HC gave a great listing - to drop the ball now without looking completely manipulative and misleading. Of course we all see what we want to see. Does anyone know what the relative split among fans is as to romance vs. no romance for Patrick and Teresa?

i think at this point, the wedding ring is more so he doesnt have to have awkward conversations with women hitting on him. Cause, lets face it, he is an attractive guy and probably gets hit on more often then not. Having said that though, i am just ready for them to have the talk and lisbon ask him about the ring. I know its not gonna happen anytime soon, but a girl can dream!

@rationalgal I agree that Patrick's heart is with Lisbon, whom he views as romantically off limits. I don't think Patrick will actually get with Erica, or with any other woman from now on, until Lisbon. Even though he's susceptible to certain aggressive, manipulative and attractive women who come on to him, he's quite capable of stopping if he wants to. But I think after Orchid Lane, seeing Lisbon about to fall apart and partly because of what he was revealing about Lorelei, he would not do anything with another woman.

OK, I totally screwed up when I said Jane has no momento of Angela. He wears his wedding ring!!! Can't get more momentoed than that. But I still think he is open to moving on, or has become so as years go by. There have been way too many years for that not to have happened. And he won't get too close to Erica. She may be an attractive temptation because he admires manipulative skills, but his heart is with Lisbon.
