The Mentalist Review: The Alien Lizard Vibe

at . Comments

That nurse wasn't kidding. Agent Kirkland definitely has an alien lizard vibe to him. It's as if we spent "Behind the Red Curtain" waiting for him to rip off his mask and show what he was hiding underneath.

Rigsby is Thrilled

Though Jane has obviously had his suspicions of Kirkland, does he now know he's an agent of Red John? And, if so, can he convince Lisbon?

Kirkland injecting the IV almost made me feel sorry for Jason. The poor guy just woke up from a coma to remember being shot by Lorelei and then had his life snuffed out a moment later. He was still so weak and helpless from his injuries there was nothing he could have done to stop it.

Lisbon was the one who confused me in all of this. She seemed more than happy to hand their one link to Red John over to Kirkland. Was she that worried about her career? Was she actually not suspicious of the creepy federal agent? I was at a loss to the reasoning behind her apparent naivete.

But the best part of the entire episode was Jane enlisting LaRoche to help uncover the scheme of the nonexistent investor. It was awesome watching these two complex, quirky characters work together as Jane cajoled him in this The Mentalist quote

Jane: You spend your days chasing paperclip thieves. When do you ever get the chance to nail a killer? | permalink

If LaRoche isn't Red John (and I hope he's not), I'd love to see him help Patrick take him down and I beg the writers to give us more of these two in the future.

Jane seemed right at home at the theater. I'd guess that actors are a bit similar to carnie folk. They're all putting on some sort of a show.

Jane sitting in the back of the theater listening to Deandra sing was just so him. Lisbon walked right by him and never saw him there.

Deandra's story was downright heartbreaking. That her colleagues gossiped about her drinking while she was really suffering with multiple sclerosis was depressing. That she was reunited with her biological daughter only to have her permanently torn away over a silly financial scheme was tragic.

Lastly, the beautiful Grace Van Pelt was back at the CBI and it's been far too long. Now the question becomes: will Rigsby find the guts to make a play for her?

Were you surprised Kirkland took out Jason? Is Lisbon being naive and do you think Jane now knows that Kirkland works for Red John?

And I do have some resentment for being put through the wringer by network television. Hardly ever happens. In fact, only one other time for me and they killed off a lead character, so I don't have a good past for this.

You say true @huisclothes, both Patrick and Teresa felt abandoned by the other. This does comfort me a little to see it so, even though it adds a new layer of angst, too. But thanks for that, because this storyline is searing and I have very tender feelings for these two characters. The layers of storyline are sometimes so exquisitely composed and here I've missed some very important things completely. I'm willing to be hurt by an excellent story because it always comes back to some profound truth about the human condition. And that makes it messy and sometimes tragically out of sync. But I always root for love and a happy ending.

dear entwife. don't be crushed. that was the beauty of the episode. how out of sync patrick and teresa were. cutting from her face to patrick opening his eyes was great film-making. remember, at that point, she knew where to find him and could have gone to get him -- even if only for a major screaming showdown.
but she was struggling with herself. here was her chance to connect with him and she's mulling it over. here was his delight at being let go, sure it was because of teresa.
both of them felt abandoned by the other.

@watcher come on in, the homoerotic water's fine. seriously, wouldn't it be cool as sh*t?

with you all the way. lisbon is no way an abused woman or a doormat. she's there because she wants to be there. she could extricate herself anytime. she's not afraid of him and he's not out to scare her. she's decided the pluses of the relationship outweigh the minuses. that's the decision we all make everyday in all our imperfect relationships. also, yes, yes, yes. lorelei curled up like a freshly steamed shrimp. patrick made eye contact and leaned forward for the kiss

You remember right @KM. Patrick asks Lorelei if she's okay (the lion got the zebra), she looks at him to answer, he looks at her maybe to wait for her answer (maybe if she wants to change the channel), then they just hold the gaze and I can't see the eyes well enough in this youtube clip to tell who signals what to whom first, but Patrick definitely gets the go-ahead and moves in for the kiss, puts his beautiful hand on her hair and she runs her across his belly. And Lisbon walks the streets worried about him. I'm crushed.

Dammit! Despite my great resistance, I am now starting to think that maybe, just maybe, you guys are right and there is some type of homoerotic aspect to the Jane/RJ relationship. But I'm going to go kicking and screaming. I'm not completely sold yet.

one other thing that never occurred to me about crimson hat - jane believes that teresa bailed him out. he thinks that her friendship is the reason he's home and free. then lorelei comes to his door. turns out, that she, not teresa, is the one who gave him freedom; who came to offer him comfort - soup and her body.
i hadn't really thought about the fact that jane was probably disappointed that it wasn't teresa that sprung him. he could have rightly assumed that the knock on the door would have been her. that would have been consistent with their relationship. if i were she, i would have gone to vegas and bailed him out. at least, i'd know where he was and he'd have to speak to me when he left the jail.
lisbon not coming to his rescue messed with the rules of the tm universe.

OK, you all have reassured me on the Erica escape. My 60% has moved up to 80%.
thanks :D

Another interesting thing about the motel scene with Erica is how she looked all love-mussed after that one kiss with Patrick. He sucked the lipstick right off that girl! Her lips were all plumped and red, even her nose and cheeks were brightened up. That was one hell of a kiss. I'd say he was aroused for sure @huisclothes. Yeah, that's RJ, @Watcher, Patrick's chastity belt, perfect lol. That's where the homoerotic vibe comes up for me. Even if it's not about a sex act with PJ, it's about that jealous absolute control of Patrick's sex life. What's up with that?
