Scandal Review: Love The Way You Lie

at . Comments

No matter the case or current event, it always comes back to Olivia and Fitz. In "Top of the Hour" Olivia found herself as the opposing counsel in a scandal involving the latest Supreme Court nominee Murray Randall, who Fitz had personally vetted.

Of course, Fitz wouldn't need a new Supreme Court nominee quite so soon if he hadn't have murdered Verna, but truth be told she was on her way out. No matter the circumstance, that decision of Fitz's is weighing heavily on him.

He's shutting out Mellie, he's cheating on Cyrus and he's drunk dialing Olivia. Oh yes, Fitz certainly has the booze eyes. Somebody has been hitting the scotch!

It's been a long Scandal-less month for us gladiators but the addicting ABC drama was back with a brand new case and a deep subtext to go along with it. Olivia was called in to fix things for CEO Sarah Stanner, played by guest star Lisa Edelstein. Stanner was accused of having an affair with Supreme Court nominee Murray Randall. Now, not only did Fitz have to deal with the hostage crisis, but he nominated someone with some serious dirty laundry.

We all know Fitz has his own dirty laundry but that's not the point. He's got two major Presidential problems on his plate and he's depressed to boot. What can you do? Well, if you're Fitz, you have Olivia saving your ass no matter what.

In the midst of staying at her client's house, Olivia found a way to get the mole's information to Fitz in order for him to solve the hostage crisis. Olivia went to Jake, which is saying a lot. She is obviously starting to trust him. She also knows that he has the power to get to Fitz and make a difference. However, I don't think she knows about the creepy cameras. Speaking of creepy, how gross was Jake's smile at the end when he was Olivia's apartment and mugging for his own hidden cameras? Someone has a voyeuristic fetish!

Fitz doesn't know that Olivia is the one who issued the tip that would solve the hostage crisis. However, CIA director Osborne, who is also the mole, does know that people are onto him. Quinn is screwed. How is it that the insanely talented and brilliant Huck would allow for a mistake like that? He knew Quinn would be photographed at a place like a dry cleaners. Is there a possibility that he did it on purpose? Does Huck have a plan? I'm betting on yes.

The moral of this week's Scandal was that people get lied to and people can get betrayed. All you can do is not let it ruin you. Even if you feel like you are ruined, your love for someone can conquer all common sense. Fitz is a testament to this last lesson.

Fitz: I trusted you, you know. You're all I had. You ruined me, I'm ruined.

Olivia: I'm ruined! | permalink

Fitz is still drunk-dialing his ex-mistress, but there's a new player in the game. Jake knows he needs to cover his steps. He went for the jugular with that photographer in order to get the photos of him and Liv. If Fitz were to see him talking to Liv, if anyone in the CIA were to see him talking to Liv, his source would be in danger. He may be shady, but I do believe he has grown to care about our dear Olivia Pope.

It's hard to let yourself care about people where you're in the world of Pope & Associates. Take Abby for example: she's hurt that Harrison betrayed her but ultimately she knows that being a gladiator is what comes first for him. I do hope these two are able to become as close as they were. They made for a great team and still do. Quinn and Huck are currently the frontrunners for my favorite team at Pope, but you never know!

What did you think of the latest episode of Scandal? After a month long hiatus was it enough to satisfy you? Hit the comments!

VP. they can't have disappeared that quickly and edison? i feel someone is going to pop up and disrupt EVERYTHING and i can't wait. series finale maybe.... i too see david being a gladiator but again, not yet he still needs to detox before he can be in company

Drea xoxo

I just don't want liv and her gladiators to get hurt.
abbie mitch please! you knew going with david was a no no but you still did, live with it n accept all consequences!!! this "harrison i'm a victim" act needs to bore off!!!!! he was always using you and never meant it! he started off on false pretences...... quinn, always knew she was the loose floorboard in team, hope huck can save her before the WH get to her. POTUS needs to get over his victim act, you lost all rights when you killed verna! i just hope jake is good for liv and can somehow come clean before he gets killed......
mellie, chile move on. you both used each other and now he's bored of the lie. you can't force it on someone i'm sorry just care for your security deposits i mean children and be done.

Fitz is getting on my nerves. I think Olivia needs to forget about him. I wanted Jake to be the guy but then he gets creepier.

I am with TV!Garth in his summation of this incredible ep! Yes, you are right, Kerry Washington rocks this role, and she manages to still be a great ensemble actress amid all the other actors on Scandal. Great, emotional scenes in this one, and I echo all the others who said that Jake smiling at himself on camera was just CREEPY as all get out! I think Mellie was also in the running for creep of the week as she used her baby to get in to see her husband, and you could tell she was distressed when he grabbed the baby and shut the door in her face...good for the Prez!Anyway, I also adore Harrison and I was hoping that David would become a gladiator, too, but I think his relationship with Abby would make that a problem. I am also glad to see Huck teaching Quinn.

I agree with Nisan. Abby did betray Olivia and the team. She has nothing to be upsset about. She told David things that could have gotten both her and David killed, if Olivia had not stepped in to save both of their ungrateful lives. She could have slept with David without betraying Olivia. All she had to do was keep her mouth shut.
Also, I'm pretty sure David is going to end up becoming a gladiator. I don't know how, but it's gonna happen. I can feel it in my bones. LOL.

Wow! just wow! I had to view that episode 4 times. I really really enjoyed everything about it. I love Jake but that smile at the end was beyond creepy!!! I almost cried during that phone call between Fitz and Olivia. I can't wait for the next episode.
Hi my name is Marie and I am addicted to a TV show called Scandal on ABC. Is there a cure for that?

@Tova- What do you think is gonna happen to fitz in this situation? He's just as guilty as jake is because he hired him. I hope if olivia does find out that she cuts ties with both of them at the same time and not just jake.

I was so happy to have Scandal return. Last night was great. The phone call between Fitz and Liv was so emotionally great. These two have such amazing chemistry and really bring the emotion on screen. I feel bad that Abby feels different about her relationship with Harrison. I love their friendship so much and hope it goes back to being the same before this whole David thing. I also love Huck and Quinn friendship. The way he was training her last night was so nice to see. I hope Quinn doesn't get into much trouble by being caught on camera like that. Don't know what to think about Jake. I really want him to be the right guy for Liv to get over Fitz but that smile at the end was too much for me.

When the truth comes out about Jake and his collusion with Fitz he will be toast..Can't wait for the take down...
