Revenge Review: I Love You, Too

by at . Comments

If there's been any criticism of Revenge season 2, it's that there hasn't been a whole lot of revenge-ing going on. Emily, Aiden and Nolan have all been sort of working toward Emily's plan, but not really, while the Jack and Amanda sub-plot ran in the background. Until tonight, that is.

Tonight Emily suffered a loss that has given her renewed determination to take down the Graysons. Amanda is dead, taking her last breath in Emily's arms.

"Sacrifice" marked the return of the Revenge we know and love and was easily the best episode of the season.

Revenge Power Couple

So many of this season's episodes have felt slow, not moving Emily's revengenda along at all, but tonight was different. I hardly know how to wrap my head around everything that just happened.

Victoria Grayson, scheming as always, had the grand idea to buy them some time with Helen's murder, so she pretended to BE Helen and rode away with Helen's driver. The next morning, she and Daniel staged a conversation for the Initiative in which they pretended to have a falling out. This worked to throw the Initiative off of the Grayson's trail for Helen's disappearance. Daniel is quite the Grayson, playing his part in their faux argument marvelously.

Meanwhile, once again using Charlotte, Victoria planted Helen's cell phone and scarf in Jack and Amanda's apartment so they could set Amanda up for Helen's murder when the Initiative came to call. And call they did, with the introduction of Trask, one of Helen's associates. What Conrad conveniently failed to mention in all of this, however, is that he is actually in the process of taking Amanda out himself with Nate's help.

Amanda barely stood a chance. But the girl is a fighter. Or was.

I was actually on the edge of my seat with all of the Jack and Amanda and Nate scenes tonight, knowing that someone would die and that, while Nate would definitely kick it, either Jack or Amanda likely would as well.

When Amanda started telling Nate that the reason she was in the Hamptons was to dig up dirt on the Graysons, I had a moment of wanting to push her overboard for being dumb again. Like last week with the laptop. The laptop she brought on board with her instead of putting it back in Emily's house where it never should have left in the first place. But then I thought Jack bought her story about her reason for being there and my heart actually broke.

I didn't realize until then how much I liked them together and was happy they were happy.

By pushing him off in the life boat after he was shot when she knew there wouldn't be time to get on the boat herself, Amanda sacrificed herself to save Jack, which proved how much she loved him and their family.

She knew that by staying behind there was a chance she would die, but she also knew that if she didn't let Jack go, he would definitely die. She chose to try to save his life.

Thankfully, Emily and Nolan were also trying to save Jack and Amanda and were able to intercept Jack. Unfortunately, Nolan was too late in returning to help Emily to also save Amanda.

Amanda's death revealed a great deal about Emily and the way she holds people at arms length. For a long time, probably most of Revenge Season 1 and at least part of this season, it seemed as if Amanda was nothing more than a nuisance to Emily. Amanda's presence in the Hamptons greatly interfered with Emily's plans.

Emily's tearful "I love you, too" following the flashback to the two of them on the day Emily was released from juvie was a four-word recognition on Emily's behalf of the many sacrifices Amanda has made for Emily over the years: her identity, keeping Emily's secrets when it would be to her advantage to spill them and her chance at a normal life, to name a few.

The weight of those sacrifices settled into Emily as she let go of Amanda's body and waited for Nolan's return, sparking within her a renewal of her vow to avenge herself against the Graysons. I, for one, can't wait to see what Emily has in store for the monsters who, even without knowing her true identity, keep taking from her those she holds most dear.

What did you think of "Sacrifice?" Were you shocked by Amanda's death? Are you as excited as I am for Emily to get back to the business of exacting her revenge on the Graysons? We'll talk in the comments, and don't forget to check out the Revenge quotes page for more Revenge-y goodness.

Common... I need the next episode!!

Beverly-brooks

As much as I love Ems and Aiden together, I love the idea of her and Jack also.

Why does so many people want Jack to have died? Just because he's a nice guy who's morally-sound? Come on! Some people (like me) actually find that appealing. Is his character as "fun" as someone like Victoria? No. But if EVERY character was like Tyler or fauzmanda, the show would be very one-dimensional. If Jack died, I bet you'd surprise yourself by missing him. A show like Revenge NEEDS a moral center! The only negative comment about Jack that I'd agree with is that he needs a better haircut. I really liked what he had during season 1. Very sexy... ;)

How many comments are needed before one becomes a "regular?" I feel like I've made many comments about Revenge all year and yet I'm still a "guest!" How frustrating...

Reviewers seem to be skipping over the latest evidence that Aiden is always willing to screw over Nolan (and I hope is made to pay for that). After Nolan tells Padma to trust Aiden,Aiden turns around and has Padma tell the Initiative that the version of Carrion she has is incomplete...which I'm sure Nolan only wanted the Initiative to find out when it would hurt them the most.
I certainly hope our heroine chooses Nolan over Aiden when they come into conflict (I know she will choose Jack over Ashley, after Ashley was whining about her plan to screw Jack out of the Stowaway falling apart).

But in a way, I'm satisfied with the deaths this episode. Someone from the main cast had to die. It's already a miracle that they all managed to survive so far. Amanda is IMO a perfect choice. Killing Jack would have been too much for Emily, even with Aiden at her side. If she's gonna attack the Initiative, she'll need Nolan's and Aiden's help. Amanda's death gives the perfect incentive to put the gang's focus back on the revengenda, without being too taxing (on Emily or the revengenda). Also, good job writers! Making us believe that a main MALE cast was going to bite the dust, but than killing of Nate and a female main charachter! Again, if I hadn't been spoiled, I wouldn't have it seen it coming. As for the rest of the plot, I don't really care much. If the Initiative is really fooled the Graysons and really believe Amanda Clarke killed Helen Crowley (although she already was on the boat with Jack), they're not smarter than late Fauxmanda. I really hope that with Emily & co back on revengy track, the Initiative will become more interesting. And Conrad's campaign... I really don't give a damn. The only thing I'm really looking forward to is Padma and her father. Can't wait for next episode!!

"I didn't realize until then how much I liked them together and was happy they were happy." Me too! Already, last week's episode made me ship for Aiden and Emily. The only couple I'm still not feeling is Padma - Nolan. Even though I already knew who was going to die (apparently, if you don't want to be spoiled, it is forbidden to watch an episode a few days later >_

And what the hell is wrong with Daniel?? Such a big dissapointment!!! I thought he is different, but now he kind of knows a lot and he is doing nothing! Even when he heard that they wanna ruin Amandas live - what an ass. I know if he would leave his parents and moves somewhere else he could be a nice guy. But he needs some balls!! Do something against your parents!

I REALLY hope the writers are not going for Jack and real Amanda - there is NO chemistry!! And Im so sick of them - no they dont belong together
1. Ok Jack fell in Love with Fake Amanda - but not just because he thought she is Amanda (otherwise he wouldnt have had feelings for real Amanda aswell)
2. Jack fell in Love with Fake Amanda cause he likes her as a person - her character, if they woudlnt fit to each other he wouldnt have been with her!!
3. God i got ,,married" when I was 6 - and guess what I dont wanna be with that guy anymore. And most of my childhood friends and crushes are still
around - and I dont wanna be with them either. Just because you were friends as kids doesnt mean u should be together!!!!!!!

Great episode, except that I wanted Jack to die! He is so boring and I cant buy into the supposed love between them, they were just kids when they knew each other and Emily is so different now. I love her with Aiden!
But I do hope Emily gets back to revenge and that we have had enough of the boring bar storyline that I have mostly just FF through.
