Castle Review: Stabbed In The Back

by at . Comments

Now, that was fun! Castle aired "Reality Star Struck" this week, an episode centered around the murder of a “reality” star and some Valentine’s Day competition between Castle and Beckett. It was the kind of episode long-time Castle fans love.

The Murder. The hour was spent looking for the killer of a young reality star from “The Wives of Wall Street.” One word can describe this spoof. Hilarious. One of the best parts about this installment was the fact that it brought Gail O’Grady back to our screen. I’ve missed her since Hellcats got canceled.

The case itself was pretty predictable, but it included the ingredients to a perfect Castle episode and it did it well.

Partners Fighting Crime

The First Valentine’s Day. Amidst the murder, the detectives were still celebrating Valentine’s Day, and for two couples that meant their first February 14 together.

Castle and Beckett competed over who would give the better gift. The presents were not even the best part. Castle accidentally slipping Beckett’s gorgeous earrings into Gates’ jacket was the icing on the cake for the hour. Trying to get them back, facing Gates when she found them... everything about it was pretty much awesome.

Who knew that Kate Beckett had such a romantic side? She pulled the sweet move by offering up a drawer at her apartment for her man. These two have made some serious strides in their relationship and it is still just as much fun to watch as the will-they/won’t-they games from last year.

These two weren’t the only ones celebrating the holiday. Lanie and Espo went out for their first V-day. It’s no secret that I am a big fan of anything Espo related. Having these two get back together is just what us Espo-fans want.

Side NotesL

  • How hot did Lanie look in that red dress? Smokin’!
  • Of course Gates was a reality TV fan.
  • Even better, Gates and Castle sharing the love of “The Wives of Wall Street.” Pretty awesome.

Overall, another fun episode from our favorite detectives. There were actual laugh out loud moments, as well as the sweet ones. Once again, Nathan Fillion killed it with his facial expressions throughout the hour. I’ve said it before and I will say it again: is there another actor that can portray so much from just his face?!?

So how can we move forward after such a great episode? The annual two-parter! It’s that time of year again. Castle will be airing their annual high stakes, high tension episodes over the next two weeks.

So until then, Castle fans. Hit up the comments, sound off on the Castle Round Table later in the week and patiently wait with me for the next episode.

Loved, loved, LOVED this episode, both for all the funny moments and the tender ones. Though I agree with all the Firefly fans (I'm a Browncoat myself) that they should have had more interaction between Zoe and Castle/Mal.
I adored that Castle and Gates were both big reality show fans! And I am thrilled that Lanie and Espo were going out again. Those two were meant for each other.

I absolutely LOVE this show. I might be one of few, but I enjoy the episodes with Captain Gates & that character. Someone on this show has to be the stern inforcer among this crew of cops. It's fun to see her enjoy things that it seems such a serious person might not have interest in (her doll collection, reality tv, etc). I think Gates is on to Castle & Beckett too.

Great show but I feel its time for Martha and Alexis to call her Kate. And Kate could slip in a Rick once in a while. But I like them anyway

@sonde Infertility is not as much of a problem, as a lack of patience. Many of us, myself included, understand what Ryan is going through because we have been there, done that. Stud Service on demand is just that. It is not fun, especially if you have to get out of bed and go back to work, but necessary because young couples hear the clock ticking.

I loved the last 10 minutes.. I do beleive that Gates put it together, and realized, it had to be meant for Beckett, the two of them have been working together for 5 yrs, something could be up.. and if they keep it that much a secret, then she knows what is at stake. A great detective, and a smart writer that brings out the best in her. Splitting them up could only cost Gates.
I really do enjoy the serious episodes, like ones with drama to them.. I look forward to next weeks. The closeness of the actors is what endears the show. Lanie looked "wow", and I loved the cleaned out dresser drawer gift. It too reminded me of dating my wife. After a few years, we did much the same.
Its such a shame, I feel as if the producers are held back by ABC on how much they can spend, or how serious they can get, like its an 8 pm show sometimes.. I don't understand why.

why does everyone on tv who is trying to get pregnant now a days has that same gag? and infertility become the norm? forced sex? and EVERYBODY knows your business and the frequency of it. Look around the other channels how many programs are doing the infertility thing....YAWN

I also loved this episode, especially when Gates was telling Castle "I'm a married woman and now I'm going home to MY valentine." It was even funnier that he couldn't tell her that it was all a mistake and the earrings were for Kate. Nathan Fillion is great expressing emotions with just his face, but I must disagree that he is the best actor doing this. Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester on Supernatural) is at least equal to (if not better than) Nathan in using facial expressions and body language to bring fans into the drama or comedy.

I cannot find enough words to ezpress how great Castle was last night. It was one of the best shows yet and the finale with Castle's gift from Kate was precious to say the least. This love affair has made the show even better, which is tough to do.

@ bill The relationship between Castle and Beckett has always been Kate the dominant, Rick the submissive. Of COURSE she ordered him to report to the bed. Castle being such a soft wussy guy most of the time is one of the funny (giggly) things about having the actor who portrayed Malcolm Reynolds, a stone cold killer, play Castle as generally not overly brave. I have even seen him hide behind Kate a time or two. Yes, I know he shows overwhelming bravery, too. I said, MOST of the time. But he is very submissive to all the women in his life.

I loved it when Castle said "Spoiler Alert". It was so funny

So it's a reality show...without the reality.
