lisbon owes brenda a favor so we know that's coming back.

Even though I don't see many true loose ends, I do think the writers did things this way deliberately. I don't think they've decided who RJ is yet, or if they did, they just decided this season. Having a lot of odd/slightly suspicious situations with many characters lets them keep their options open. When it is time to pick a RJ, they can pick anybody they like (depending on actor availability).

Any of the characters listed can be made to be RJ if they want it to go that way.

cont'd If he isn't working for RJ, there is no need to tell us what his is. Same with LaRoche and the tupperware.

I really only see a few truly open items: 1) Which RJ mole helped kidnap Wainwright? 2)Alexa and Kirkland - good or bad? 3) Lorelei is obviously coming back for 3 more episodes, so that will clearly be wrapped up.

I don't consider Lisbon sleeping with Mashburn a loose end or out of character. We know she dates- Jane once referred to her as intense and particular in her dating. He mentioned some guy at the CBI she dumped as an example. Just because they don't usually show it on screen doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I just assume it implies that she is not in a serious relationship- just more casual dating.

I really don't consider Darcy, Jane's father, Kristina, Erica & Rosalind loose ends. Mancini hasn't done anything suspicious. These are all just stories that have run their course and ended. I see no great mystery. Of course, if they like they can bring any/all of them back- but as of now I consider them closed cases.

It would be nice to know if Brenda gets caught, but if she isn't working for RJ, I don't really care that much. Ardiles has a secret, but many people in his position probably have a skeleton or two. If he isn't working for RJ, there is no need to tell us what hi

Yeah it looks like we're going to get bumped. Golf in January what else is new, I bet it gets bumped for a special re run of the Titanic next time. Super Bowl next week and we aren't getting another show for 3 weeks anyway, this is what happens when your on the bottom of CBS's food chain.

  6. huisclothes

i always record the west coast feed also so i know i get the whole thing.

  7. Entwife

Are we getting bumped by GOLF??????? They're only on the third hole!

how about danny ruskin? he's certainly got a reason to hate his sister (she left him and jane, he took her). he could blame jane for forcing him to kill her. know it's too long ago for the non-obsessed viewers to follow.
wonder how i'd feel if it turned out to be one of the team. cho. wouldn't that be insane? he has the charisma. he's formidable. he's certainly firm of purpose. virile. enigmatic. weapons expert. don't think it's him. but i'm trying it on for size. devastating (think how jane would feel).
rigsby. jane very pointedly shook his hand when his father died. but i wouldn't buy it. his lips are too thin.

@euterpe agree with your list of ought to be tied up loose ends. tupperware i think is just a macguffin.

red john killed jacqueline sandoval (talk show host who called rj a beast) in nevada.

I never considered Mashburn or his one night stand with Lisbon one of the loose threads. Those things do happen. But Kristina Frye, Rosalind Harker, Hightower, Wainwright, Alexa Schultz, Mancini, Robert Kirkland, Erica Flynn, Jane’s father, LaRoche (remember that Tupperware container?), Agent Darcy, Lorelei, and now we’ve got Brenda Shettrick and A.D.A. Ardiles added to the ever-growing list. Like I said, more loose threads every season. Leaves me wondering what new thread we’ll get tonight.

Yeah if there's one thing that's become apparent to me the past 18 months now it's that this show isn't going to tie together most of the loose ends. Reading between the lines of what Bruno says and based on the show keeps piling on rather than sewing them together, there is going to be alot unanswered and while I'm not sure we're at the stage where the show is driving aimlessly waiting until the end, but it's not implausible either which is something I would have never thought would be the case 2 yrs ago. I'll say this though: some of these aren't really loose ends, just deep fans hypothesizing everything. I wouldn't call for ex Lisbon sleeping with Mashburn a loose end, just an interesting part of her character. Perhaps out of character(although maybe not as much as we say) but that happens with people, they do things you don't expect them to do and you can't really give a justification or deeper reason as to why.

  13. euterpe

I agree about the loose threads. I keep waiting every season for at least a few of these threads to be tied together but all we get are more loose threads. It’s starting to look like the floor of a denim textile factory. The writers have a lot of work to do. I’ve wondered for a long time if they really have a final destination in mind or if they’re going to drive around aimlessly until the show gets the axe. That would be a tragic end for a fantastic saga.

Euterpe, I do like the idea that the real Red John is in league somehow with Stiles. I once suggested it was Mashburn, but there's the problem of him being absent from the show for so long, as have others who are otherwise prime suspects. For viewers who don't follow the show closely it could be confusing to bring back someone unknown to them. Problem is all the dropped threads. Example: Lisbon having sex with Mashburn! How out of character! That alone put Mashburn on my suspect list. Also Kristina, a prime suspect for many reasons. Is her catatonic state real or faked? Were these threads created for possible use later but have now been discarded? Hard to make a case when we don't know a viable thread from a disgarded one.

cont... However, as far as we know, RJ has never killed outside the state of California, unless you count Wainwright, who was apparently killed by the FBI. He was though kidnapped and transported across state lines, which would be in the FBI’s jurisdiction. However, the FBI had already been involved in the investigation long before the commission of this crime. My point being, if the FBI was already closely following the Red John case without being contacted by the CBI (remember Minelli wasn’t aware of their involvement) that means RJ has had connections with the FBI maybe from the beginning.

  16. euterpe

RJ's connection to the FBI is of utmost importance if, as we have been shown, RJ already had connections in that agency before Jane was hired at the CBI. The FBI does not monitor closely every single killing that takes place in the US. Even the investigation of a serial killer is not within their jurisdiction unless the killer kills across state lines or the local agency asks the FBI for assistance. In "Red Dawn" Lisbon says that the CBI had taken over the RJ investigation just two months prior. So, before that we can assume the killings were being investigated by the law enforcement agencies of the locations in which the murders occurred, since the ten murders up to that point had not all occurred in Sacramento.

I dont think Bruno ever said outright we've seen him before, I know in an interview before the season he said we might have seen him already. Also, I don't think its that hard to hear about things like people talking about you on TV shows, after all he is Red John, a man with all kinds of ties across the CBI, FBI and across the state with more friends than Paris Hilton. Word can get out pretty easily, remember, it barely took him anytime at all to kill Panzer and that was the same deal. As for the whole RJ monitoring Jane, we know the FBI was on this years ago as soon as Jane came into the CBI, that is probably RJ's main source of information about Jane. I don't know if RJ really knew Jane before the murder, my guess is he probably had some rough idea of him but really his intrigue for him came after murdering his family. I don't think that's something that's going to be a big deal as the show goes on, I doubt they really elaborate on that idea.

  21. anitraward1

The information about Red John knowing Jane before the television is a game changer! It means Red John has a Bigger motive than originally thought! That, with the fact that he knows the guy will make me think differently from now on.

LET'S GET IT STARTED IN HERE! LET'S GET IT STARTED! LET'S GET IT STARTED IN HERE! LET'S GET IT STARTED! WOW!

  22. anitraward1

I believe Red John is a man because he started of as a serial killer/rapist.
Also Red John has been shown as a man and he has the voice of a man. His female lover's refer to Red John as he when referring to him. Even some of his male minions have referred to Red John as "he". I think we can safely say Red John is a man.

Red John is also some one we have all seen. Bruno Heller said we have seen him already, somewhere in the series. So the whole four years have to be brought forward when deducing all the new clues. Anyone of the people who disappeared could potentially reappear if they were not killed! AND I'M STARTING TO WONDER ABOUT THAT! The graves w/ no dates keep popping to mind!

@euterpe re: your comment about rj seeing jane on tv. he could subscribe to one of those services - lots of celebs and companies do - that alerts him when his name is mentioned in any context in the media. kind of a real time clipping service. much easier to do now than it would have been ten years ago.
but the idea that he was tuned in because he was interested in what jane would say is intriguing. rj had to know jane was helping the cops. maybe jane had helped the police solve some case before. rj would probably be interested in seeing how the guy's mind worked. maybe he tuned in relishing the publicity. then he gets talked about like he's a pisher. if he was a sad, lonely ugly guy, jane would have hit a nerve. if he was actually a happy, gregarious, good-looking guy, he would feel slandered. i hope he's the latter. much more fun.

  24. euterpe

@huisclothes - Oh I totally agree with you about Kristina. I never liked her at all. I just do not consider her a viable suspect because she has been absent for so long (as b&w&r pointed out with several characters) and because when last we saw her she was in a semi-catatonic stupor. If she could still run things in that state from an institution, then maybe she does have supernatural powers.

  25. huisclothes

@euterpe agree about wishing rj was an unknown. i always wanted red john be an evil never before seen. right now, i feel like i'm waiting for some character i already know to show up and hold a flashlight under his chin. and like you, i enjoy everyone on the list (even bertram but not kristina, please god, anything but kristina.)
i like your point about if red john is a lot of people, then jane would have to have a confrontation with multiple red johns. jane needs a showdown with whoever killed his wife and child. but if that person was sent by the real red john or the under assistant west coast promotion red john, where does that leave us?
