The Mentalist Review: Taking It Personally

at . Comments

"Days of Wine and Roses" was more about Lisbon's hunt for Tommy Volker than the murder of the week, but let's start at the aptly named Oasis Rehabilitation Center.

The place was certainly an oasis, on par with many vacation resorts, offering ample opportunity for Patrick Jane to make mischief.

Jane Sneaks Around

Charlotte (aka Charlie's mother) was blinded to her daughter's addiction. She refused to believe Charlie would steal her ruby necklace. What she failed to realize was that an addict is capable of almost anything. I couldn't help but feel sorry for poor Maria, a character we never even saw on screen, who took the fall for the crime.

Jane playing the klepto was great fun, but it was even better when I realized that Cho and Lisbon were in on the scam.

In the end, I couldn't help but mourn Charlotte. Her death really was a tragedy. She was young and could have turned her life around. But the one person whose job it was to help her was the one who took it all away.

Joanne whined that her disease made her do it. Hopefully she can wallow in that self pity for the rest of her life in a prison cell.

But back to Tommy Volker...

Lisbon personally financed a second autopsy on Amanda Shaw. How much do one of those cost? The guilt over not being able to protect the girl was driving Teresa on a crusade that's as much personal as it is professional.

And Jane noticed.

He knew that the gleam in her eye was either a break in the Volker case or a new lover in her life. I thought it was sweet that he hoped it was love as he said she deserved to find happiness. Jane deserves that too.

But Lisbon would be thrilled with catching Volker and with Grace's help she tracked down his enforcer.

Speaking of Van Pelt, I loved how they hid the actress' pregnancy this week. The rolling cart with file boxes on it was new and kind of ingenious. At least it let her get up from her desk.

Just in case we forgot how creepy Volker was, he decided to visit Lisbon. In addition to his version of charming intimidation techniques he also told Lisbon, "You look good. You've been working out." The way his eyes roamed her body made me want to take a shower.

He was pushing Lisbon's buttons, hoping for a reaction and it was starting to worry Jane as he told her in this The Mentalist quote

Jane: I'm just a little worried he's inside your head and believe me that's not a good road to go down. Bad neighborhood. | permalink

And if anyone should know, it's Patrick Jane.

When it all falls apart, when Lisbon's only connection to Volker is gunned down in the street along with two innocent bystanders, Teresa plays her last card.

She ask Jane for help. Jane vs. Volker. Now this should be fun.

Entwife,Huisclothes,Rationalgal,TB and Watcher-not only did I really enjoy this episode but I enjoyed all your comments as well! I had lot of fun! I'm looking foward to the next episode and looking foward to your comments! Great stuff!

You know what! The last episode should be the movie! Then the writer's can really express Jane and Lisbon's relationship on a rated R level. Jane could do all kinds of nasty stuff to Red John and Lisbon!

Huisclothes & Entwife if you're getting the vapors you might be moving away from the TV ratings portion of the Mentalist! I, for one, am going to shoot Bruno Heller an e-mail and suggest that Simon Baker film a episode at my house! I'll call the episode Red Dreams!

And about Volker. He is a very wound up psychopath. The fact that he feels compelled to confront a ranking agent of the CBI tells me he is losing it fast. Devolving as the shows say. Decompensating as the psychiatrists say. Very dangerous, but telegraphing himself all the way. Just showing up there is a threat, given what everybody knows about the case. If anything happens to Lisbon, Volker's the first guy they grab. But he can't stop himself.

yes entwife. i too am having the vapors.

Whew! I know I started this, but I feel like the Victorian ladies, searching for a fan!

re: the hand holding at the end of crimson hat. some of these memorable physical moments are ad-libs by the actors. the script may have said "he takes her hand" but the way he slid his hand along her arm to get there? bet that was simon and robin.
i haven't loved a show the way i love this show, ever. who could replace patrick jane? so i will never get over it if the series leaves me with the female version of blue-b-lls.
i want things to go way beyond the kiss. at least, a push-her-against-the wall and a rip-off-his shirt scene. it's got to be a cathartic moment. let them go out with a bang. (ok, i'll stop.)

hi entwife. yeah, the series hasn't really used that style of transition with stylized tight shots. simon is the only director except for david nutter (the pilot) who really designs every shot. so it wouldn't stand out like a wrong note as in this averagely shot and directed episode. i think the performances were pretty buck-eye. feels like the director made everyone play it big, especially simon. i think the scene that best showed why simon gets the big bucks was the chess scene. the way he sat down and softly, almost overlapping walt's line said "what did you do with the wallet?" he used the same "almost interrupting" delivery when christian meets andie in devil wears prada.

Haha, great scene, especially et Voila! Perfect. Except, I'm going to have to see that kiss . . . ;-)

Ok, here it is! It's the end of the series, they show the squad rm. Everyone is there except Jane and Lisbon. No one says a word. Camera fades and then cuts to Lisbon's apartment. Lisbon is pouring up two glasses of champagne. The camera follows Lisbon up the stairs and as she breaks the door way entry to her bedroom and looks in, you hear Jane's final last words..............AND VOILA! Camera's then fade to black

The Mentalist Season 5 Episode 11 Quotes

Either you have a breakthrough in the Volker case or you're in love. Which is it?

I looked Amanda Shaw in the eye and I promised to protect her. I failed.
