I was just thinking. Simon just got a star on the Walk of Fame. Surely they wouldn't cancel his signature show right after that??

Rationalgal, I'm a believer! I, like you have seem many little dead bodies. God gave us all a free will and a free life. We do not live in the Garden of Eden anymore. Just because people can't show that God is, doesn't mean he isn't. But I do however respect your right to believe in what ever you like.

Rationalgal, you are breaking my heart.

I'm not sure he doesn't believe in an after life. The only thing I've seen him dismiss is talking to spirits. That's what he was telling K. Frye. That's why he made the ghost buster reference. Jane respects Lisbon's right to be in a religious box. If he didn't believe in the after life, why would he talk to his wife sometimes. I think the show shows the contrast in believing in the same thing two different ways. When Jane said this is a church, he was telling her to have some respect because she was in a church. I think at this point we are going to have to agree to disagree.

Ani, I need to clear up something about how people behave when they are about to die. Atheists do NOT revert to religion. I have been with several atheists as they died - friends and family members. Every one accepted it as the inevitable end of life. We tend to take death in stride for the reality it is. At least death in old age or in terrible physical circumstances. Kids? No. That is just SO heartbreaking. I know all about that and all I can say is that if there were a god coffins would not come in child sizes. We're on our own in this world and the important thing is to stick together and help each other. That's all the religion anyone needs.

Sorry the systme screwed up my last two posts. You need to know I am a well-informed atheist. I understand where Jane is coming from. He wants to comfort Lisbon. We do that when it helps our believing friends and family. He knew using a god expression would help calm Lisbon. He did it for her beliefs, not his. He loves her and thinks of what she needs. As for bible quotes, atheists generally know more about them than a lot of believers. I quote the bible all the time if it makes my point and helps believers understand me. When Jane talked of coming through the valley [of the shadow] of death, he said it in the context of complaining of being cattle prodded all week. He was doing a little plaintive humorous whining.

RJ is an atheist too but he is evil. Lisbon is religious but she does good. Gupta (the bomb vest guy) said he was "deeply religious" but he was evil. Jane will challenge the theology of evil believers but is not interested in doing so with good believers like Lisbon. He dismisses the idea of an afterlife. (To Kristina: "Please! Will you stop this nonsense!") I think the show has paired Jane and Lisbon this way to show that it's not what you believe but how you behave that counts. They respect each other's religious opinions and even kid around about it ("This IS a church!" - wry humor there). I enjoy seeing Jane portrayed as an atheist because I share his worldview. His portrayal is spot-on.

If Jane were religious he would be praying to God to punish RJ instead of seeking vengence. Personally I like seeing Jane portrayed as an atheist because I share his worldview. Like all the atheists I know his is spot-on.

Rationalgal, in the episode ball of fire, Lisbon and Jane were about to be burned alive! Jane was speaking from his heart when he said that. When you are about to die you will revert back to what you really believe. Rationalgal, why do you think Jane is an atheists? Where in the series was that ever proven? I know you keep saying that, but can you explain that to me.

You know KM?, I just might agree with you on Jane being a pantheist? It seems to sort of fit. I am more inclined to lean your way if my theory is wrong. This will be something I will actively look for when I watch the show. Yet I can not get over how he made that statement to Lisbon with such conviction. KM?, you have a theory, do you have anything to substantiate it?

THAT'S WHY I LOVE THIS SITE! PANTHEIST!!!!!! WOW! I'M DOIN' THE HARLEM SHAKE RIGHT NOW!
