Gossip Girl Review: Tag Teams and Takedowns

by at . Comments

What an hour. Gossip Girl aired its penultimate episode, "The Revengers,” this week and it took us viewers all over the place. There was scheming, crying, a possible death and even an arrest...

Bart, Bass & Beyond. Taking the stage in this installment was none other than the evil Bart Bass. Seriously, I have watched a lot of TV... even a lot of bad TV. These shows have been full of corrupt characters - but still, Bart takes the villainous cake. He possesses layers of evil and it doesn’t help that he is so smart with his crimes. Could you imagine having a father worse than BB? Yup, don’t think there is one.

Chuck continued his battle with his father and it finally started to peak interest again. These two had been having a tug of war for far too long. The fact that Bart would try to convince his son to leave the country and never come back is just crazy. What’s more crazy? The fact that he tried to kill his own child in a plane crash.

Looks like this war is coming to an end. The scuffle between the Bass boys ended with Bart falling off the roof of the building where his Man of the Year party was still going on. Not that this hasn’t been entertaining, but I personally will be glad to get rid of the real Basshole.

Like Father, Like Son. Nate, having played both teams of the Bass war, ended up in jail just like his Daddy. What kind of prison is this that his high school girlfriend could just pop in and talk to him? Regardless, it brought back The Captain and that's always enjoyable. Nate shared some sweet father/son moments and gave him the inspiration to move forward...with the help of Sage.

Nate still has all of research on the identity of Gossip Girl. Is he finally going to take her down? He better, and hopefully he will use Blair Waldorf and her b*tches. If not, at least his mug shot made it on to TMZ...

Best Team Ever. This isn’t the first time the friends of GG have teamed up for a serious scheme. But I must say, Blair and the girls were awesome. They did just enough to creep out Bart and all get along, even if for just one night. Not to mention, they all looked flawless. Sage has grown on me, Ivy’s raspy voice is always welcome (when she’s useful) and even Georgina was likable.

The GG fans have made the Georgina argument as tension-filled as the Dair/Derena/Serenate/Chair fights. Is she a welcome character or is she just a little too nutty? Has she worn out her welcome in the UES? Most appearances by G are entertaining, but they have started to grow thin. Does anyone else think this or do you wish she had been a full time character throughout the series?

Dan On The Move. Humphrey is moving on up! Dan made the bold move to get an apartment in Serena’s building, after admitting he still loves her and going against Bart. Is it enough to get S to stay or is she really heading to the sunny skies of California? He slipped an envelope into her bags; has to be his nice Serena chapter, right?

Serena and Blair on GG

Will Derena get back together just in time for the show to come to an end? I hope so, or there are going to be some seriously angry shippers.

The End is Here. With only one episode left of the series, what can we expect from the writers? There have been Gossip Girl spoilers all over the place for the past several weeks. Looks like there may be some returning characters, some saying goodbye and maybe some saying something a little more important. Will Gossip Girl be revealed? Will Serena leave the UES side for good? Will Lily reappear? Will Serena really leave? Leaving behind her BFF would really put a hole in the heart of this show.

It’s going to be a long week waiting for the series finale. This gives us time to look back at the Gossip Girl cast we’re getting ready to say goodbye too, as well as reliving the best Gossip Girl Quotes over the past six seasons.

Until then, sound off below and let us know what you thought of “The Revengers.” Did it live up to final season expectations or was it a let down considering there is only one episode remaining?

Check back for the Round Table of the week and make your predictions for the end of Gossip Girl! We've also posted the series finale promo below. Until next week, GG Fanatics. XOXO.

Now still remain blonde with great legs and a dazzling smile and a lonely boy to fix their love life! It will be difficult, but not impossible to Serena and Dan finally reconcile forever! Because, Dan has already put in Serena’s suitcase last chapter about himself. In which Dan explains how much he loves Serena, that he can not live without her, and how sorry he is obeying his brain and not his heart when he sent a negative chapter on Serena! Of course that Dan is not expected that Serena immediately forgive him, because it would only confirm what Dan wrote in that chapter! Serena and Dan, must first to learn to swim, as Dan said in 6x05, than finally to be able to tie the knot forever! As I announced last week, Dan has done the right thing in the last minute helped Chuck, so making a full circle because now Dan and Chuck can be friends as they tried in 1 season! Certainly not forget Blair and her assistants - Serena, Georgina, Sage and Ivy, who played a key role in the destruction of Bart! Another proof that when Serena and others join together become unstoppable! Finally Serena and Blair forgive each other and reconcile, proving once again that on the UES sisterhood is still alive and kicking!

The whole GG is so funny but I can't stop watching it:)
Anyway, does anyone remember when Rufus took those films that were in the envelope to Lilly and when he was leaving, Dan came in and saw this envelope in Lilly's hands? Well, I think this is the envelope Dan put in Serena's bag, to make her see that he is changed in a good way and not the same as Bart.

The episode is excellent but too late to repair what was lost, however, though this is the penultimate episode, and it must be great. It has everything - drama, friendship, love, hate, death, and desire to Serena and others to obtain a well-deserved happy ending! Well to start, Chuck did the right thing which he is not saved Bart, he had no choice after Bart attempts to kill him, as well as after intimidation of Blair and Lily! Of course it would be better that Chuck reached out to rescue Bart, and also showed that he is a better man than him, but in that Chuck probably would not have succeeded, and maybe crazy Bart would pulled Chuck with him! Of course that Chuck is a better man than Bart, simply he did not kill anyone, and just wanted to get what belongs to him! Finally battle between Zeus and Kronos ended in favor of Zeus, now Zeus can be with Hera, ie. Chuck and Blair can finally be together! Now still remain blonde with great legs and a dazzling smile and a lonely boy to fix their love life! It will be difficult, but not impossible to Serena and Dan finally reconcile forever! Seriously people. I think many of you have to check your moral compass again. No human being has the right to decide about another human's life. Even if that human is horrible and evil as hell. And don't start telling me that Chuck didn't activeley killed his father and only just didn't save him as an excuse. It's a crime with the same impact. Since when do people have the right to say that another human being didn't derserve to continue living and let him die? Can we go out and let a person drown because he was a bad person for example? No we can't. And tonight they destroyed Chuck's character by making him the same as Bart. A ruthless, merciless man who would even let a member of his family die in order to get what he wants.

@Juliette I think you need to remember that its a show and not really life. In order for chuck/everyone to be happy Bart needed to die. He was also a horrible father that was probably just about to kill his son...might i add not for the first time that night. I'm pretty sure that in real life most of the people who commented would save the person if they were in that situation, but its a show.

As for whether Chuck should have helped him - probably. Would he have been able to save him - probably not. Not true, if Blair and Chuck both took one arm they would have helped him up and he would have survived. We will never know if he would have tried to take them down with him (2 against 1, I don't think so) but now Chuck will have the eternal memory that he let his own father die when he could have at least try to save him.

I'm starting to worry about people here. Hey if anyone was dying and I could save them and they would beg me to help them, I would...ANYONE. My worst enemy, the worst person in the universe, just anyone, I would help them. If not to be nice, for my own conscience not to have saved this person or because of religion.

Loved so many things this episode: Blair's bitches (GeorGINA especially) and Dan's role stand out. But really: it was a mistake to bring BB back. I'm glad he fell off the building...but I had to laugh like hell. I mean.. HAHA.. the scene portraying Bart falling was so cliche and amateur that I got tears in my eyes for the writers'/producers' stupidity.
The episode next week being the last GG episode ever makes me feel sad and I look back to all the great years of GG fun. On the other hand though I feel it's the right moment to stop for GG because things are getting far below the GG level of professionalism we're used to.

@G. Singular, So what happened to you that now you cheer for Serena and Dan, must soon end of the world?(lol) This is simply impossible that you now like Serena and Dan, rather than Serena and Nate, please tell me you're kidding? On the other hand, anyone can change his mind, and that's okay!

There are probably a hundred reasons why Georgina is GG. She just pulled out the GG 2.0 version in order to protect her real identity from Philip. It makes sense if it has to be G. Also I noticed some connections with Bart and Georgina - Russia (Milo's father is Russian; Bart has clearly some dealings in Russia), and the fact that it seems they know each other well during the party last episode (no introduction took place). On the side note, is it just me or Dan suddenly became so sexy when he admitted he's trying to win back Serena? For the first time, I am glad that we will have Derena reunion on the last season. I like Dan now.

I don't know how Claire Danes does this, it hurts my head.
