Beauty and the Beast Review: Taking a Chance

at . Comments

"Bridesmaids Up!" was so good and then so ... not good.

I'm going to start with the lighter fare and then go down to the dark side because this episode was huge in scope. All cards on the table, I never expected to get as involved with Catherine and Vincent or Beauty and the Beast as I have. I'm completely surprised at my reaction to the show and Cat and Vincent as a couple.

I don't know if anyone else feels the same as I did, sharing the ups and downs that came during the hour, but I was blown away.

Her Father's Wedding

For the lighter side, let's start by saying if someone told me I had to buy a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes for a wedding, I would politely bow out. On a cop's salary? Are you kidding me? A pair of nude shoes like the ones shown cost $945. I don't even want to think about what the dresses must have cost. They could all buy new cars for the price of their bridesmaids outfits!

On the other hand, the speech Cat gave at the wedding was absolutely lovely and I'm so glad her family story has turned out to be a happy one when so many shows decide to follow a different path.

The only thing the case of the week provided was material for Cat and Vincent to get to know each other better via Cat's dating profile. It was a perfect moment when Vincent realized all of her answers were pointing to him as her perfect date. How they danced around the issue of being together was very difficult to watch. Vincent felt so different after taking the serum, almost rejuvenated. He believed his non-scientific tests proved he could handle himself in a crowd.

He wanted to attend the wedding with Cat, but no matter how many ways he tried to make it happen, Vincent couldn't get her to accept the challenge. Part of her was afraid for him and the other afraid for herself. If something did go wrong, there would be a lot of explaining to do, and she could lose him forever.

My gosh. When he showed up at the wedding, wearing a tux, lurking in the background and she just felt his presence, I cried. Cried! This show on The CW was not supposed to make me feel. Not as strongly as I do, and for that I have to give kudos to the writers. They have surprised me greatly. I'm a born cynic, and even my hardened heart broke at the sight of them dancing together. It's something so many people in love take for granted, but what they felt at that moment must have been overwhelming. If it was to watch, what would it have been to live?

Since Heather asked Evan to the wedding - a pairing I never considered, but quite liked - she got some inside information on what he'd been dabbling with with regard to the DNA evidence he found at his crime scene. He's pulled together evidence even as far back as Cat's mom's murder and he's linked it together. It was the same being, beast or animal; he's not quite sure. But he is sure that it is changing, and losing it's humanity in the process.

J.T. doesn't have the knowledge required to fully study and analyze what is happening with Vincent. That became apparent when Cat was talking with Evan. Evan has barely had time to study the DNA and he's already determined the shifting nature of it from human to animal, and the progression in the wrong direction.

Cat told Vincent, naturally, because they can't hide information that important from each other. Vincent took off and when Cat went to find him, the murderer from the case of the week hunted Cat down and shot her. Thankfully, Vincent was again lurking nearby, turned beastly and pulled Cat out of the car.

Here's where things get interesting. Evan and Heather were leaving the wedding, and came upon the accident scene. There is no way Evan didn't notice the being holding Cat wasn't wholly human. If you recall, during my review of "Trapped," I suggested that Evan knowing about Vincent might not be a deal breaker. He's not a bad guy and his scientific mind could be very useful. He trusts Cat. He knows the beast saved Cat once when her mother was killed, and saved him when he was almost murdered, and this third time there he is holding Cat safely away from an accident scene.

Might Evan join forces with Cat, Vincent and J.T. to try to find a cure, a solution to stop the steady progression from human to animal? As a balanced guy I can't think of a reason not to trust Cat and have a meeting with Vincent. Would he want to turn him in for saving his life? For tearing the murderer to shreds? Or would he see the potential for scientific discovery and helping a friend?

That's my hope. Evan will come on board and our trio won't be so damned alone any more. They'll have proper tools, instruments, someone else to run changes by as they occur. What are your thoughts? Do you think Evan will be a benefit or will he turn against Cat and Vincent, and will they have to be even more careful when the show returns in January?

Theorize below, and remember to watch Beauty and the Beast online in order to catch up. I want everyone in top form when it returns January 24th!

Am I the only one who realized how much danger Evan is in now he has a grant covering the very research the government wants kept secret? If it is a published paper it puts Evan directly in the line of fire and its a gigantic paper trail to get to Vincent. No doubt in my mind Evan has seen Vincent now, he knows something is up. I don't know how much he is going to help out. Also I must be the only one who is Evan/Cat shipping? You can tell his 3 month dating rule was because he was waiting for Cat to be ready to be with him. It feels weird to see Evan thrown together with Heather, I can't see that going anywhere, she's too ditsy and immature. I think once Vincent's ex-fiance comes back into the picture there will be a big shift between Cat and V. Right now she is quite selfish and happy with their secret relationship but I think once she sees Vincent with his old life she is going to want that for him instead.

I for one don't agree that the show will be over if vincent and cat share a simple kiss.. that would be like the seal of their bond and commitment to each other and I don't believe evan will be their happy sidekick if he finds out that vincent (who has the love of the girl evan wants) is the beast he's been chasing after. His jealoussy will lead him to act stupid before he would ever consider helping vincent the ''handsome beast'' that has catherine. I was kindoff bummed at how standoffish cat was about vincent being at the party..It was so amazing to see him there in his suit and he looked soooo nice..*sigh* why could he dance amits all the guest but not just sit at the dinnertable.. nonsense.. I am so tired of waiting for the kiss.. just one kiss.. jeesz.. still wanting to know more keeps me hooked for now..

Then they are going to get her to safety. Come up with some bogus reason as to why Vincent was there on that road. Evan is gonna have no choice in accepting their explanation, but his instincts are going to continue to tell him something is amiss. And then once again we are going to be put back on any progress where Cat and Vincent are concerned since his ex-fiance' is about to enter the picture for a bit. *rolls eyes* I thought they said this episode was gonna be some big changes? Nothing has really changed. I was kinda bummed about this episode.

I have been enjoying this show more and more. I have especially loved the action sequences with Kristen. This episode reminded me of what romance looks like. I still love how capable they are making Catherine, but the chemistry between the leads is great too. If you haven't watched give it a look.

@ GeneralRapunzel.. Cat said she had a crush on Zalansky when she was in Kindergarten. And she is at least 2 or 3 years older than her sister. So there is no way her sister would have recognized that name. At the end it looked like Evan couldn't quite make out who was holding Cat or more importantly what he looked liked, as he was walking forward. He parked the car a little ways away from the incident and he was squinting his eyes as he was approaching, and it was foggy and very dark. So I think that in true B&B form, they are going to draw this out as far as Evan coming on board or not, in helping them out with Vincent's DNA/Secret. Since Vincent obviously had no where to run off with Cat, especially when Evan & Heather came, I think he (Vincent) is going to realize that they are Cat's only hope in getting her some help since she's been shot and is now passed out. So he's gonna calm himself by the time Evan is face to face with him so that he wont see his beastly side. They are going to get to the hospital and come up with some bogus reason as to why he (Vincent) was on that road in the middle of nowhere. Evan is obviously going to have to accept their reasoning, cos he can't prove otherwise, but his instincts is going to continue to tell him something is amiss. And of course we are going to have yet another hurdle to get over concerning V & Cat, cos now his ex-fiance' is going to see him and be back in the picture for a bit.
Remember, Cat never got the chance to tell Vincent why she was racing down that road calling & trying to get to him. So yeah another set back. Honestly all this back and forth with them and they have yet to even semi-kiss or even have a drawn out hug, is getting irritating for me. They know how they feel about each other and yet no body is moving. I never really wanted them to go there, although I know that's where the show was ultimately going with them, but seriously at this point & what is sure to come, they need to just S*%^ or get off the pot already. I do love this show though and I'm surprised at that cos when I saw the 1st episode I was curious but not sure how I felt about it. I remember the 1st B&B show. I loved that one. And I am relieved that this one is a fresh new take on it :)

When Vincent kept repeating how much better he felt, I knew he was getting sicker. And doctors don't trust patients like that, no matter what Vincent said. And why didn't her sister recognize the name if Cat knew the real Vincent Zalansky in her youth? Evan is a good guy. I think if he learns what happened to Vincent and how Vincent has tried to help people, including Cat and himself, he'll be willing to help. Until he thinks Vincent becomes a danger. And then anything goes. That's the danger of the moral character, no? Heather and Evan I think are doomed. He's too into Cat.

Great episode! I love their connection! I'm a little choked to see Vincent's ex fiancee in the preview. I don't think they will get back together but she may be the reason if Cat backs down. I don't think Vincent will get back with ex. He had all this time to but chose to be with Cat.

To: "Guest": Cat DID have a silver clutch purse in her hand when she was running out of the reception after getting the keys from Heather. Her little jacket was thrown over her arm. She probably kept her gun since the woman from the dating service was the murderer and they could'nt pin anything solid on her yet, she kept it for safety. Evan isn't going to let "anything go", so their guard has to be up. The eyes are the windows to the soul as the expression goes. Vincent and Catherine's love for each other is shown when they look into each other's eyes. It would be nice to hear the words said.

truly an amazing episode!! cat and vincent dancing really captured their bond and from beginning to end i was hooked! & what a cliff hanger cant wait to see what happens next, fingers crossed that it will last longer than a season!

Beauty and the Beast Season 1 Episode 9 Quotes

Vincent: I can handle being Vincent Zilansky. Forever.
Cat: But if anything bad ever happened to you because I didn't want to go to a wedding alone, I would never be able to forgive myself. Thank you, but I cannot let you do this for me.

I am so relieved, I feel as festive as you look.
