The Vampire Diaries Round Table: "The Five"

by at . Comments

The Vampire Diaries flashed all the way back to the 12th century on "The Five."

And while TV Fanatic staff members Matt Richenthal, Miranda Wicker and Leigh Raines aren't delving that far into history, they are here to analyze events from last night and break down all we witnessed and learned...

-------------------------------------------

What was your favorite scene from the episode?
Matt: Probably Klaus positively losing it on Rebekah after he killed Alexander. For multiple reasons: Joseph Morgan is never better than when he's angry; Claire Holt never better than when she's crying; and it was a flashback scene. Those get me every... single... time.

Miranda: ELIJAH FLASHBACK!!! Ah. Sorry. Got a little carried away with myself. But, yeah, seeing Daniel Gillies on TVD again is always great. My runner-up favorite was Klaus, Rebekah and Stefan at dinner and Stefan's wry "there's a million other people I'd rather have dinner with right now." Stefan provides a weird sort of balance to Klaus and Rebekah and I like seeing the three of them together.

Leigh: Even though it shouldn't be my favorite for moral reasons, it was watching Elena and Damon dancing at the frat party. Elena never has fun. Seriously, never!

Should Stefan really make a secret alliance with Klaus?
Matt: Of course not. But, as I wrote about in my review, Stefan is the Grand Chess Master of The Vampire Diaries. He's always thinking multiple steps ahead and likely has plotted out a course of action for how to turn on Klaus before Klaus turns on him. Just think of how well all other schemes involving getting rid of Klaus have worked out... oh, right. Damn.

Miranda: Not ever. After last season, our gang should know one thing: never trust a vampire you can't kill. Which means never trust Klaus. Or Rebekah, for that matter.

Leigh: No! Klaus is Klaus. It's nice to see Stefan's humanity and to see him want to trust people... but no.

Okay, NOW do you feel sorry for Rebekah?
Matt: Yes. But do you know who I feel sorry for the most? Myself! No more Claire Holt on my screen for who the heck knows how long?!? Thanks, Julie Plec. Thanks a lot.

Miranda: After last week's Round Table, I'm feeling positively clairvoyant. Unlike Beks, apparently. How did she NOT see what was coming when lover boy had that dagger and ash and started talking about how it kills vampires? HOW? Even if she didn't know what exactly that dagger was yet, she had to know he knew! Last night didn't make me feel sorry for Rebekah. It made me want her to vamp-punch Klaus in the face for being such an ass, though.

Leigh: I think so. If you lived 1,000 years with Klaus are your brother, you'd probably go a little psycho too.

More surprising: Jeremy being useful, the existence of a cure or Professor Shane being aligned with Connor?
Matt: I may not have been flabbergasted by the Shane/Connor alliance, but I'm the most excited over its potential. Both characters have been well integrated into Mystic Falls and there are just so many directions in which this story can go.

Miranda: Professor Shane! I thought I was creeped out by his Mr. Robinson vibe with Bonnie. Turns out I was creeped out because he's Team Five. Is it just me or does anyone else think the "cure" will most likely be something very much like "death" and not so much like an actual cure?

Leigh: I love when Jeremy is useful. I don't believe there's really a cure and saw that professor was shady from a mile away.

Elena and Damon feeding at a frat party: Dumb idea or REALLY dumb idea?
Matt: This never made any sense from the outset to me. Why did Damon and Elena accompany Bonnie to the college in the first place? Damon needed a lesson from a professor he never heard of about feeding on humans? The dance scene was fun and it was freaky to watch Elena get so into it, but the reason for placing Damon and Elena there never came together.

Miranda: Plain old dumb idea. The dumbest part of it was leaving all those bite wounds behind. Otherwise, Frat Boy Buffet was a great cover. Damon and Elena sure seemed to enjoy themselves. At least until Buzzkill Bonnie showed up. Witches. So judgy!

Leigh: That roofie guy totally deserved it. Besides, it was a murder party, people were drunk and the blood was masked. Dare I say it was a good idea?

It looks like the majority of the episodes are going to get more shocking and surprising but I can't wait to see what else happens. =O

@ Mo i think i over-exaggerated my feelings towards bonnie. i like her in general, but at the that moment i didnt really like her. in that scene, if she never showed up, who knows what would have happened between damon and elena. im just getting tired with this love triangle and i want her to choose damon. i admit that if she chooses damon, the flirty little comments will end and the excitement everyone gets will diminish.

@Lola i don't see how Bonnie is a buzzkill? Elena was having fun but getting a little out of control and as usual regretted it all afterwards. Ultimately i blame the writers, enough with dragging on the love triangle. I don't see how Bonnie is getting in the way of her and Damon...the writers make Elena choose Stefan but then make her do such things with Damon, she needs to pick one brother and stick with him. On another note, very intrigued with professor Shane and his link to the Five and i also did feel a bit sorry for Rebekah.

i also think that the hunter should just go away. i just hate his face. they could have picked someone hotter for us to look at!

i hate bonnie in this episode! she is such a buzz kill! damon and elena are meant to be together and she is just ruining it. I believe that damon is going to be the one who will turn human. i think he will turn into his real self when he does. this whole episode emphasized how elena turned into a different person when she became a vampire so when damon turns into a human, he will be his real self. I remember damon saying that if elena had met him back when he was human, she would have fallen for him. so when damon is human, elena will fall in love with him. Also, i hated how this episode had no klaroline moments. i was looking forward to that after the last episode when we found out that tyler had cheated on her. i cannot wait for caroline to find out!

Favourite scene - Klaus, Rebekah and Stefan having a dinner party. Klaus acting like the best host ever when basically everyone hates him is beyond creepy. Secret mission WITH KLAUS? Not a good idea. When did making a deal with that devil ever actually work? Never. As for Rebekah - yeah, I've always felt sorry for her. More surprising - the cure all the way. I hate it when vampire stories go down that road. When will the writers learn that vampirism is not supposed to be curable? Delena at the frat party - I actually thought it was a pretty good idea. Frat party was the perfect cover and more importantly they were finally having fun! Stupid Bonnie...

I bet in some weird twist of fate only Damon will get the cure, and he will hate every minute of being human and it will be up to Eleanor to teach him how to enjoy it while Stefan watches from the shadows all jealous and pouty. But then just as he starts apprecating humanity again he'll have to/will be turned back into a vampire (either by Elanor or Katherine or maybe very distant possibility Stefan or Klaus.) Then he may go even more psycho then he was in the beginning of the show. I really miss the Alaric Damon bromance : (

1.Fav scene
Klaus daggering Becca! Claire is such a great actress! She is my star for this season! I could really feel her when she shouted look me in the eyes Klaus. But she will be back soon. She is Stephan's Ace up his sleeve.
2.Stephan and Klaus!?
If U asked me before 3.09 i would say yes. But Stephan knows how to play this game. He has a plan, and a plan for that he proved he can play the game.
3. Becca!?
Of course. Don't forget she was just a girl when she got turned and she just needed love, and no one could give it to her. Not even Matt a simple Human.
4.Surprise!?
The cure of course. We will find it but it won't play out like Stephan or K want. Probably a Salvatore will go Human! S or D!? What is more twisted!?
5.Campus ride!?
The idea was for Elena to hunt someone she doesn't know! And if she kills she won't kill her childhood love. They wanted to show us more her struggle, especially under Bonnie's judgy eyes! For me it worked it's purpuose!

1) elijah scene ofc! who cares about the extras!!
2) couldn't really care less! want katerina to come back and have the cure and give it to klaus and we realise he was lying all along......and that it was the orignal doopledanger who is the bloodline......or my fav elijah.....
3) i feel sorry that she was never loved enough in human life
4) surprised that we can't even experience elena as a vamp without an exit out
5) delena not gonna happen, stelana shouldnt either. just platonic please, its boring me

4/ I think that Jeremy has showed that he can be usefull from time to time. I was surprised by the cure thing (I didn't think that they'll bring it out specially not so quickly) but my answer will be "Professor Creepy" (as Damon called him) being aligned with Connor.
5/ I agree with @fayeolivia:"Going out of town where nobody knows you is pretty sensible. And there's probably no better place to feed than murder themed party - everyone's covered in fake blood already and biting someone isn't going to be that noticeable in a noisy room full of drunk people dancing and making out."
