The Vampire Diaries Review: Yes, Sire

by at . Comments

Hmm... I wonder which scene from "My Brother's Keeper" will have Vampire Diaries fans talking tonight. And tomorrow. And well into 2013...

Yes, TV Fanatics, Damon and Elena finally went there. Their Waltz turned into a Horizontal Mambo and and the squeals from Delena fans could be heard for miles and miles. But it wasn't the pinnacle of an romance that many have been waiting for since The Vampire Diaries Season 1.

No, there was a twist far different that any contortion of Elena's while writhing in bed: Caroline and Stefan determined that Elena is sired to Damon.

Elena Gilbert in Pain

The Vampire Diaries just can't let this triangle die, can it?

Two weeks ago, I praised Elena and Stefan's split. It felt natural, it made sense in the context of Elena's transition and her heightened feelings for Damon. It was the perfect time to have her commit to the other Salvatore brother and for the show to move on from the back-and-forth of the past few seasons.

Alas. Now we're back there again. Damon is the evil one who cheated to get the girl. Elena didn't really choose him, Stefan will be determined to win her back and break the sire bond... and blah, blah, blah. It may seem like a new tune, but it's really the same old song.

And it feels rather contrived. The Vampire Diaries is a fun, wild ride. It's best not to over-think the cliffhangers and crazy turns and storylines because, come on, this is a show about supernatural beings and, at the end of every hour, I challenge anyone to not claim they were not entertained. That's almost all you can ever ask for from a series.

But there's always a line. And here it comes across like Julie Plec and company simply invented the concept of a vampire being sired to another vampire. Has that ever been touched on before? Is there any reason to think it would make sense in this case, aside from giving the writers a convenient way to drag out the brotherly fight over Elena?

This was lame. It was a cop out. I don't look forward to the ramifications. I'm far more interested in why Hayley is working with Professor Shane and what that duplicitous teacher has in mind. I care a great deal more about Jeremy (never thought I'd write that!) and his nightmares and urges and how the awoken hunter inside of him will affect his relationship with all the vampires in his life.

Heck, I was actually invested in Klaroline this week, as Klaus was at his charming best and I believed for the first time that these two could really be a couple.

In other, disappointing words: at the moment, the show's three main characters are at the center of my least interesting storyline. That's never a good thing.

We'll see where this all goes, of course (next week? To World War II!). Up until this episode, The Vampire Diaries Season 4 had been off to the best start of any season to date. The hunter stuff has been fascinating, Elena's transformation has affected everyone around her, Phoebe Tonkin is downright gorgeous.

But I worry. I'm now afraid the love triangle will overshadow everything else. And who should be the most angry over this siring nonsense? Delena shippers! They have been waiting for years for these two to get together, yet they can't fully enjoy it  - they can't enjoy it at all, really - because apparently it isn't real.

This episode may have represented the best day of Damon's life. But it was my worst experience as a Vampire Diaries fan this season.

What did everyone else think?

I loved this episode, every second... right up to the end, of course that tainted the whole thing and ruined the episode. The story line was evolving nicely and there wasn't a point where I was itching to fast forward. I was loving how all those loose threads of story were coming together... Of course now I can't think of anything except for the stupid, STUPID sire bond crap. If Damon does know (he is usua

On to more interesting news..I'm really intrigued by professor shane, especially now that we found out that he's working with Haley! Why would they have to unsire th hybrids? Hmmm..something is very fishy about them! Would it be to find the cure? Or to awaken Silas?

ughhh I'm so pissed! Caroline was so annoying this ep, except when she was with klaus..it was as if she was her human self again..and her stupid chat with Stephen ruined the EPIC momen that was elena and damon sex! Why did they have to ruin it with this stupid sire thing?? It was all making sense, her feelings for Damon were heigtned..she only started agreeing with him in this ep and she never acted like his slave! At least the sire bond can't make her have feelings right? I mean, none of the hybrids fell in love with klaus or anything..and plus, I thought they were sired to klaus because they werethankfull that they wouldn't feel pain of having to turn..why would elena be sired to Damon?? I hope they find out that their theory is wrong!

I've completely lost my interest in this show. Damon is hot, we can all agree with that, but hotter than Stephan? Nicer than Stephan? Better for her than Stephan? I think that their real-life relationship got in the way of the show's thinking. If this was a real triangle, people would be slamming them both for what they did and how the brother was treated. Totally over Elena. Her character is ruined and without Elena's character, there's little to be interested in. I'm bummed too, because it was not that long ago that I considered this my favorite show. Anyone know a really good one out there, I need new obsession.

One word: LAMEEEEE!!! The sire thing makes no sense, why would they do that to a scene Delena fans had been waiting for since season one? She gave Stefan a fair chance, and should give Damon a fair chance too without all this sire nonsense! Ugh. I am SO disappointed by this episode that I actually don't want to watch the show anymore, and that is saying something because I am a HUGE fan of this show. Bottom line: sire bond = worst idea the writers ever had. AND..whats up with Jeremy all of a sudden trying to kill Elena? That was lame too. They need to fix the storylines here, otherwise as sad as I am to say it, this show is going to go downhill.

It looks as though next episode is going with this sire stuff. I can't believe after watching this show for years, TVD ruins the love scene with this sire bull and ruins it with Caroline and Stephan talking in between. I am so irritated at the terrible writing of this part, when thousands of ppl having waited years, faithfully. And then, Julie, you slam us down in a terribly insulting way. For me, I seriously just start watching something else!!!!!!!

This was really stupid!
I was so excited about Elena finally confessing that she
Has changed and so has her feeling for Damon as they are now intensified. When Damon and Elena were in the middle of kissing making love scene I was so excited that it was FINALLY happening. To find out that none of it is real,
It disappointed, it angered me. Why can't the writers just let damon and Elena happen without a stupid reason except the fact that Damon loves Elena no matter what she is and Elena really does have feelings for Damon. NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS. If the writers don't get their head straight no one will be watching this and the show will be cancelled all because they let down DELENA fans. So disappointing.

Question for those writing comments saying "Stephan will always be the EPIC true love for Elena". Okay. Is that why he allowed her to drown in the first place? Really? Just think about it? If it was someone you truly loved (Like husband/wife/fiance/family or whoever)- if you had to chose, wouldn't you save your love first, even if they did point to save the other person (as Elena did with Matt). Seriously?? It makes no sense to me. Even if my daughter said "please, don't save me first", do you think I would listen at that point, just to "respect" her? Come on!! That's just dumb!!

Man i feel so cheated right now !
A sire bond ! Really !! where did that come from !
i gotta say the writers have been trying to keep this mess of a triangle alive for a long time ,,but this is the lamest move that they've pulled yet And is it me or caroline was kind of annoying ,i usually like caroline but this episode i felt like i just wanted to yell shut up when she was talking !
but despite the whole weird lame sire bond thingy ,i'm intrigued by the jeremy and professor shane story line and now somehow hayley is tied to him!!
