Haven Review: The Time Space Continuum

by at . Comments

Yippee!!! I get to say time space continuum.

Of course, I normally say space time continuum, but Nathan chose the phrasing, and I'll follow his lead. After hearing a lot about "Sarah," she was finally introduced to us when a Troubled man spotted Duke and Nathan, who he recognized from the past... in 1955. We had a genuine time loop that seemed to keep Sarah in Haven to help the Troubled.

Her first case? Returning Duke and Nathan to 2012.

Present or Past

Holy moly what a fantastic premise. I knew the episode was going to feature Duke and Nathan going back in time, but the changes it made to the future and both of them running into their relatives in the past were amazingly well done. Emily Rose completely changed to be Sarah. From the inflection of her voice to the mannerisms, the transformation was incredible.

It was an emotional roller coaster, watching Duke get to know the grandfather he had never met while trying to save his life. Nathan also ran into Chief Wuornos as a little boy playing policeman, while Audrey was visited by him as his old self, alive and kicking, in a Haven that had been radically altered due to the rift in time. It's not very often I get teary eyed watching Haven, but I found myself wiping my eyes more than once during "Sarah."

If anything, there are more questions after this episode than there were going into it. We all had our hopes that maybe Nathan and Sarah would find they way into each other's arms (and other parts) to create The Colorado Kid, and unless they cut some scenes and held out on us, I don't think Nathan and Sarah got past first base. I dare say Nathan's chemistry with Sarah was deeper than what he has with Audrey. Before you get bent out of shape, check out my reasoning.

Nathan was looking at Audrey, but a fresh, non-jaded version of herself. She was just as smart and witty, but hadn't yet had the Haven world tossed up all around her. Her eyes sparkled mischievously as Nathan blatantly stared at her, astounded at the resemblance, and yet knowing fully well they were two different people. It was obvious Lucas Bryant and Emily Rose were enjoying the hell out of those scenes. And let's face it, Emily looked smashing in that red wig and Lucas dashing in his fedora.

As the world was changing back in 2012, I was so happy that the one thing that stayed the same was the trust Haven had in Audrey. If she said the Haven they were standing in wasn't the real Haven, then they believed her. As ludicrous as things became, people lined up beside her willing to help. Even Jordan was working to get her out of town, as Audrey had a price on her head for killing The Rev. In the altered 2012, The Guard didn't smuggle people into Haven, they smuggled them out.

If Haven stays on the air long enough, another time travel episode exploring what could be might be fun to investigate. As long as they don't then take that one episode and plan the entire next season around it. Yes, I'm looking at you Fringe. Some things are best explored by the episode thank you very much.

We're no closer to knowing who the father of The Colorado Kid is, but now I'm wondering if it might be one of the Teague brothers. They've been so tight-lipped about everything, why not that? It could very well be a stranger, but the odds of that happening on Haven seem slim. They manage to so neatly tie things together and bring them full circle it would be strange if they were to pluck someone out of the blue as the father.

As an example of tying things together, wasn't it great that Roy took the "pirate money" Duke gave him and put it into his son's birthday card, which is how it eventually got passed down to Duke? Duke gave his grandfather the very doubloon that his own father gave to him. How cool is that, and for how many more cycles will it continue? Oh how I love the idea of time travel.

Agent Howard has been in on the Troubles since the beginning. Well, at least Audrey's part in them. If not playing the part of an FBI agent, he'll take the role of an Army officer. I wonder, how on earth did Sarah manage to get pregnant and have a child under his watch? Maybe she disappeared because she had a child, and Lucy after her because she began a relationship with him, as well.

Season three is wrapping up nicely. We have only (sob) four episodes left and we've been promised the finale will be amazing. What new theories do you have after watching "Sarah?"

Nathan is a good guy but he's not a paragon of selfless virtue. He had affection for Jordan, maybe even love, but loves Audrey more than he did Jordan. And bottom line, even though he was a release for Jordan, she could touch him and have sex without causing him pain, he still couldn't feel her touch. I don't think it's a smear on his character that he had sex with Sarah... even if it means that he had sex with a woman he technical only knew for a couple of hours and it was cheating on the other woman he was seeing. After years of not being able to feel ANYTHING, who wouldn't jump at that opportunity?

Several posters have commented on Nathan saying he is with Jordan. The timeline was already messed up at this point. He was a different version of Nathan. Maybe this explains his behavior.

I felt bad for the Crocker family. From the way that the cop treated Roy, it sounded as though the Crockers were slaves to the anti-Troubled group. They just used them to kill the troubled, and the ones who protested were threatened and maybe killed. If there's one thing I'd like to see happen in this season, it's to see if Audrey's blood has an affect on Duke. If she is merely another Troubled person, her trouble is pretty weird. I wouldn't be surprised if she's not actually human. This is a Stephen King universe after all, kids.

duke's destiny is to be killed by audrey but his babysitter saw a pale male hand with a guard tattoo going for his face like the colorado kid who also apparently died that way and why was lucy holding duke's hand and why did she give him the necklace, could it be she befriended him as lucy to try to prevent animosity and the inevitable crocker has to kill sarah/audrey/lucy? i hope at least one of these will be answered by end of season 3

are we even sure sarah is really the colorado kid's mother? odd to think that sarah was running around helping the troubled considering that the troubles last a short time perhaps less than 2 yrs.
is it just me or did nathan appear more interested in sarah than audrey, maybe different aspects of adurey's past lives/personality are attracted to different men.
by the way, why did tommy appear surprised about his nickname 'the bolt gun killer - too on the nose' comment previous episode when he has actually been working the case for a while and probably using the same term just curious

I've learned long ago not to put any trust in dates on shows, especially if they appear on props. I know some examples where the character in question has 3 different birthdays as seen in diaries or on computer screens, none of which actually correspond to episodes where those birthdays are actually celebrated. Previous references to birthdays might be accurate, but they aren't necessarily proof of anything.

No he was supposively born 1 year and 15 days after. we still dont know for sure. like i said before, his birthday could have been "changed" by the cogans to make sure he couldnt be tracked back to sarah and vise versa. plus this is haven where we witnessed not 1, but three pregnancies that took place over only one day per pregnancy. now it is possible he has a different father, but we dont know. in haven anything is possible.

Its 9 months or more accurately 40 weeks which would be 10 months. Also it wasnt lovey dovey eyes it was sad eyes that she (Sarah) would lose the only friend she had made. Its more than likely Dave's since Dave was in love with her, or seems to be. Or Vinces. Although I would like to find out why Dave is scared of Sarah...

With the theory that Nathan is the father of the Colorado Kid, if Audrey found out wouldnt she be kinda annoyed? I mean, then it would just be purely physical attration, he wouldnt love her and her memories just that he could feel her touch. If tht happened Im sure shed just leave at the Hunter. I would. I think it would be someone else entirely. Someone weve never met, or not yet. Otherwise its just silly. I think Nathan liked Sarah because he finally relaised that he loved Audrey, really truly loved audrey. although again its not the way to go about it/ But in the present he cant be with her since hes with Jordan. He didnt seem to be happy when Audrey said "Your with Jordan" He made a face and said "Yep" and took a swig of coffee. "Thats great for the both of you" Again he looked sour... Anyways I think you guys are wrong that the Colorado Kid is Nathan's, He was born 1 year and 15 days after Nathan and Duke were there. And unless its sanctuary and your a HAP that cant happen. Its 9 months or more accurately with 40 weeks, 10 months. And Im sure people would have known Sarah had a kid, and when its birthday was... So its a silly theory. It was too open ON A BEACH, what is little Garland happened upon them or little Simon?? Or another kid? It would have scarred them for LIFE!!! So obviously they didnt. And it wasnt loveydovey eyes it was sad eyes that she was losing the only friend she had made...

if nathan is the colorado kds father then that is out of character for nathan. i really don't think he slept with sarah but you never know and i am sure he won't tell audrey unless or until she remembers and confronts him. i think Duke will probably decide to leave haven or something after his discovery that he can't change fate.
i think agent howard and claire are probably on the same team (whoever they are). there to guide audrey and claire knows more than she lets on don't quite trust her but she doesn't seem sinister. as an aside where does nathan live in haven we've never seen his house and how could he not remember being adopted by the chief when it happened when he was old enough to know.the troubles apparently just wipe out a few months or years of memory not the whole thing except for audrey

Haven Season 3 Episode 9 Quotes

Duke: Hey! I just wanted to thank you. I thought I was going to be in there until The Beatles!
Junior: The who?
Duke: Them too.

Claire told me I'd find you out here, exhibiting avoidance behavior.
